Senran Kagura Archive

  • Pulchra is a company with great ideas but usually not-so-great execution. Aside from the header girl Marie Antoinette, who we already saw at Fate/History, none of their sculpts really stand out to me. Except for Isuzu Sento, but that is… not in a good way. What is happening with her chest. They actually remind me a lot of Griffon, especially with their penchant to put up cards with the sculpt on them instead of, you know, just bringing the figure. They had a LOT of announcements this year. Rosehip from Girls und Panzer, Tooka Yatogami & Yoshino & Kurumi Tokisake & Origami Tobiichi from Date A Live, lots of To LOVEru girls, Ryoubi from Senran Kagura, and a reclining Emilia from Re;Zero. • Amakuni is at it again, stealing all the money from my wallet. Damn them and their exclusive, beautiful merchandise! They really brought it this year. We have Anne from Persona 5 painted, and Makoto’s bike is there. From KanColle we have Libeccio, Ooyodo, Kashima, and Mutsu. There’s the amazing Mega Man statue, Ryoubi from Senran Kagura, a lot of Fate/Grand Order (Rider of Black is painted, and we have 2 announced Casters), and 2 boys from King of Prism. Plus that amazing Michael? She’s here too, along with an announcement for Lisa from Majo to Hyakkihei 2. Oh, and surprise, the Tony Taka Racing Miku? They’re making her! [via Hobby Japan]

  • So MegaHobby was, like, 3 days ago but apparently it’s totally time for another event to happen! Because all the companies not at MH had to do something with their time. First up is Vertex, aka “how do boobs work because I’ve never seen a human female.” There are so many hilarious boobs on display! From seasonally appropriate boobage (the Valkyrie Chronicles girls, and Santa Sonico–remember when she had a realistic bust?), to cyber boobage (Purple Heart, whose boobs are trying to escape her body), to the traditional gravity-deftying boobage (Fiona from Border Break!). But there were almost-realistic girls on display too, like Sakuya from Shining Blade. And their announcements, like Noel from Blazblue, are pretty surprising given their usual demographic. Brunhilde from Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria is, however, exactly what I’d expect from them. [via Vertex’s Twitter]

  • Amakuni is moving on up in the world. They used to be a company totally under my radar: they released only a handful of figures a month, tended to focus on fanservice, and only made exclusives. Well, the last two are still true, but they are ramping up their production (and quality!) like woah based on their MegaHobby display. The star of the show is definitely Anne Takamaki from Persona 5, along with an announcement for Makoto Niijima. I hope this is the first of many announcements for the game! We also have shockingly original duo-figure of Megaman X and Zero, a ton of Kantai Collection (Kashima, Ooyoda, Haruna, Libeccio, and Mutsu), the addition of Yuzuruha to their Muramasa line (along with alternate “wet” versions of Momohime and Kongiku), their cute Sonico which is ruined by the boobs, Orange Heart from the Neptunia franchise, and so much more. Like Ryoubi from Senran Kagura, a bunny version of Sword & Wizards‘ Fuyuka Yukishiro, the painted Deena Challenger, Cleric from Bikini Warriors, and announcement for Alice Shimada from Girls und Panzer, and the way too perfect Cyan from Show By Rock. I want so many of these figures… [via 1up]

  • Vertex is a company I have mixed feelings about. I have a few figures from them that I really love, but overall I think their style (aka outrageous boobs) is not for me, and the quality isn’t as good as I’d like for the price. But every once in a while they come up with something I love, and they did have a decent display at Wonder Festival. A lot of the focus was on their bodacious Sangokushi Taisen, along with their swimsuit Selvaria. Who will be getting a (santa) swimsuit friend: Juliana Eberhardt! Sonico was of course there, along with Senran Kagura and 7th Dragon. Then we have announcements! They’ll be making Purple Heart, Fiona from Border Break, and Rosa from BraveGirl Ravens. • Is it just me, or is Vertex’s “theme” as a company giant boobs? Sure feels like it, especially after this Wonder Festival! Where there were a lot of boobs, let me tell you. They actually only had one new sculpt out, Matabei Gotou from Sengoku Bushouki Muramasa, but there were a LOT of announcements. Including another Sengoku girl, Takatora Toudou! What else will they be working on? A swimsuit Selvaria Bles (because we don’t have enough of these), a Christmas Sonico (based on different art than the Alter one), Rune Knight from 7th Dragon, Kataiko from Sangokushi Taisen, and Senran Kagura‘s Ikaruga as a race queen. • I have such mixed feelings about garage kits. On one hand, it’s awesome to see all the creativity that happens when sculptors aren’t restricted by licensing agreements and the somewhat limited poses you can do with PVC. On the other hand, I can’t have them. So, you know, it’s nice to window shop but holy crap do I want motorcycle Mari so bad. This weekend there was yet another Treasure Festa–only 13, it seems like there are a million more doesn’t it? We always see some amazing garage kits at these events, possibly even more than Wonder Festival since it’s really a gk-only convention, and this year was no exception. The wares definitely reflect current figure trends… to a point. There was almost no KanColle to be seen, but a whole lot of Sailor Moon, Super Sonico, and Vocaloids. We’ve handpicked the best of the bunch, so check them all out in the gallery! [via moeyo & Akibahobby]

  • Usually Toys’ Works/Chara-Ani is one of companies we don’t even cover until the morning after Wonder Festival, but for some reason Dengeki has decided to cover them first. So here we are! With some actually cute figures. There’s a lovely swimsuit set of Leafa and Asuna from Sword Art Online, a super cute Hibari, and a… well, dull Miho Nishizumi. Cause her design is boring. They also announced a Haruna from KanColle but we sadly can’t show her to you (but fell free to search for pictures on your own!). [UPDATE] We have art for a figure of Yagyuu from Senran Kagura via Akibahobby [via Dengeki]

  • Up until now, BEAT has been a company based on sex appeal (and the hopes that we will focus on boobs instead of faces). Of course they had a few ecchi figures at WonFest, like their new Soniko and an absolutely terrifying bunny girl, but they actually went for some real licenses as well! Of course their quality is… questionable, but this seems like a step in the right direction. Like everyone else, they had some KanColle figures (Naka and Sendai), along with a rather odd Saber Extra and Yumi & Yomi from Senran Kagura. I am seriously baffled by the Saber–what is she wearing?! • The name Ringo Renmei probably rings a few bells if you follow figure production: they produced the Hibari and Katsuragi garage kits that Phat! Company ended up picking up for mass PVC production. Their sculpts are clean, their colors vibrant, and they make things that are definitely made to be produced on a wider scale. So don’t be surprised if you see this beautiful take on Senran Kagura‘s Yagyu being picked up as well, especially since she is made to go along with Hibari! Yagyu is my favorite of the Senran girls, and I’ve been waiting patiently for a really nice figure of her. There are some decent ones, but they seem to put an unnecessary amount of focus on her bust, given that it’s all wrapped up in a jacket. Ringo Renmei went the opposite route here, scaling her down significantly and going for a more cutest vibe that I adore. If you are skilled at constructing gks, Yagyu will be available at Winter Wonder Festival: the rest of us will just have to wait patiently for the announcement I hope is coming!
