  • Amakuni, aka maker of things we want but can’t have because they’re all exclusives, had little to show at Wonder Festival. In fact one of their figures, the bride Muramasa, was behind frosted glass. So we could see.. the vague outline? What is the point of that? I thought she was being made by Wing (which would mean non-exclusive) but they switched it on us! Also on display was Haruna from KanColle, and their idol Lucifer (who I am totally in love with), along with some rather creepy figures of Prisma Illya and Kuro. Why are they naked?! Whyyy. • Every year I get my hopes up with Orchid Seed. I think “this is the year we’ll finally see library girl get painted! Or that Kureha sculpt!” And every damn year I’m let down. This time around there’s surprisingly little in the way of new: in fact, we have NO new announcements and only two new sculpts. One of them is the boring bikini girl Tsukiumi. Orchid, please work on your old cool announcements. Enough bikinis! But the other announcement has me so happy. Finally, they’ve sculpted the Samurai Tamaki! Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for an Orchid Tama-nee? My whole life. Literally. Oh, and they have Belial and alt Mammon out too! [via Akibahobby]

  • The 7 Deadly Sins line was pretty serious in its initial incarnation, but the side figures have been getting progressively more absurd. Usually in a “how do boobs even work like that” sense, but some of them have totally weird concepts. Like lounging in a giant bowl of ice cream. So I was only slightly surprised that a second version of Lucifer was announced, and it was… an idol one! Much better than the ridiculous swimsuit. She’s already sculpted, and of course I love her. I mean, it’s so freaking absurd and reminds me a lot of idol Retia Adolf (aka moe Hitler). Only in Japan would Hitler and Lucifer be idols. They even have similar color palettes! I think the sculpt of this looks great, and I don’t even mind paying proxy fees for this perfection. How often do you get to order the lord of hell in a moe idol oufit? Actually don’t answer that, it’s probably unsettlingly common. [via studiokyawn’s Twitter]

  • If Orchid Seed or Hobby Japan/Amakuni is attending an event, you can bet that there will be a few Seven Deadly Sins figures making an appearance! MegaHobby Spring was no exception, with three demon girls showing up. Can you believe we all actually thought there would be 7 figures in this line? Haha, what fools we were. The 9th Sin (and the only one of the original line I won’t be buying) Belial showed up, along with Mammon and Asmodeus’ alternate versions. I could take or leave the alt Mammon, but ohhhhh god gimmie that ice cream Azzie. [via figsoku & ojy]

  • Pink, purple & blue is far and above my favorite color combination (for figures & everything else under the sun), so I never thought a figure in those exact colors would be totally strange and repulsive. Honestly, I can’t even tell you what it is about Orchid Seed’s new recolor of their bootylicious Mammon that I find weird, but something about her is just WRONG. What is it?! The strange pastels with a deep warm purple? The fact that her boobs look even more terrifyingly large in light pink? Who knows, but this is a definitely do not want for me. In fact, I think most of the 7 Deadly Sins recolors have been downright strange. However, even if you do want her… you’re probably not going to get her. She’s an exclusive, sort of. Sure, she’s on AmiAmi’s Japanese site, but Orchid Seed specifically does not want her sold overseas so most proxy sites will not be stocking her. I know, right?! That’s almost unprecedented. However, forwarding sites like Tenso might still take orders. But with her retail price of ¥11,000 and September release date, you’ll be paying out the nose for this pastel demon.

  • It has been a very long time since we had a nearly full batch of magazine scans, but it seems like the tides are turning! I mean, they’re still just photos of pages and not actual scans, but it’s clear that the golden age of 2chan uploading everything for us is over. And I’ll take what I can get! This week we have… a whole lot of MegaHouse. Seriously, 70% of these pages are about MegaHouse. Updates on their Sailor Moon, Digimon, Naruto, One Piece, and Gundam lines. Barely any of it is even new! But they did show off one shiny new sculpt: Arcana Kiraseiten from Shinrabanshou Chocolate, who looks adorable and amazing. Of course the news we all want is Hobby Japan-specific news: updates on their figure lines! And we do indeed have a few. There are two new Bikini Warriors girls, a Valkyrie from Tony Taka and a Hunter from Hiroe Rei. I have to say, despite the stupid name and concept I am kind of loving the art for these girls. And Dark Elf’s sculpt looks amazing! We have yet another new Seven Deadly Sins figure: an alternate Lucifer. Well, ANOTHER alternate Lucifer, this time in full idol gear. It’s so cute but… man, they are milking this hard. And last but not least, Alter is FINALLY making a figure of Charles from Hyakka Ryouran. I’ve been waiting literally 5 years for this, I’m so excited. Check out all that and more in the gallery! [via Takezo1101’s Twitter]

  • The Seven Deadly Sins line was moving at a rather astounding speed for a while there, especially compared to other Hobby Japan lines like Hyakka Ryouran. Well, it seems like (at least for the moment) they went a little TOO full steam ahead because we have basically no good news this WonFes, unless you like bizarre colorways. First up is an Alice in Wonderland version of Beeelzebub, but the blonde hair is just not working with her other tones. Then there’s a Mammon who, um, is purple? I honestly don’t even know. It’s so ugly. Last and least to me, Mammon’s swimsuit sculpt! Which we’ve seen before! Wow, what an update. [via Akibahobby]

  • I have seen the light! When it was first announced that two new sins would join the Seven Deadly Sins line, I was annoyed. It kind of seemed like just milking the franchise, which we already have with all the alternate sculpts and colorways. Also I hated Belial’s design (…and still do), so it was just a big nope for me. But now we’re seeing Astaroth, the sin of Melancholy, painted and I am in love. The pink, the ruffles, her over-the-top outfit and perfectly grumpy face. Of course she is exclusive like all the other Amakuni figures and comes at a pretty steep cost (¥12,800) but I will pay it happily. I’m already wondering what her alternate version will look like! Please be cat ears. [via Amakuni]

  • The Seven Deadly Sins line has been quite slow going, but we got a HUGE batch of updates at MegaHobby Expo! Most importantly (to me) we have the updated, completed sculpt of Astaroth: I was on the fence before, but she really does look lovely now! There are two brand-new sculpts on display: the alternate Mammon, and a third version of Asmodeus. This one features her in a giant ice cream cup, and I was hoping they’d do a version of this so I am pumped. Sadly, all of these are Amakuni, which means exclusives. Then we have a recolor of Bikini Lucifer: personally, I think the black looks significantly better. Last but not least is a closer look at Orchid Seed’s Leviathan, whose more lewd pose can be seen in scans. [via kk1up]

  • Some terribly uploaded scans are better than none, right? It’s time for another batch of “try not to think about the wonder of old magazine scans and look at these terrible photos!” We’ve got some new(ish) stuff to look at today, including my personal favorite: Kotobukiya’s announced Homura, which is apparently a shrine-maiden kind of deal! Then there’s one of the beautiful Ichiban Kuji Homuras I’ll never own. Koto had a second figure in scans: the brand-new Zenchi no Jingi Minerva from Cardfight!! Vanguard who (surprise) is illustrated by Tony Taka. There’s, of course, some KanColle news: Amakuni has their Amatsukaze sculpted, and has announced a figure of Haruna Kai Ni, one of the Kongou sisters. Orchid Seed’s take on Leviathan is painted and comes with an… interesting second pose. Everything else is MegaHouse: they are adding China Kousaka (In her BEAR GUNDAM OUTFIT) & Rinko Iori to the Gundam Girls Generation line and Sayla Mass to the 1/8 scale collection. Last but not least, there’s an announcement for Izuna the fox girl from Shinrabanshou Chocolate! [via Garisaw’s Twitter, Zexant’s Twitter]
