  • I was in love with Kotobukiya’s first Seraphim Sakuya, but I’m sad to say I’ve almost forgotten her thanks to their amazing second version. I mean… ribbons, wings, Tony Taka. My favorite things. The fact that her sculpt and paint are jaw-dropping (and her price isn’t so scary) are just the icing on the cake. We’re going to be getting a lot of galleries of her in the next few months, and I will be posting all of them bwahaha. Yeah, that’s right, NO ESCAPE. Just behold. Look into her eyes. You know you want to press the order button. Dooo ittt. [via moeyo]

  • Kotobukiya has already given us one lovely Seraphim version of Sakuya from Shining Ark, so people were understandably skeptical when they announced a second one at Wonder Festival. I mean, Sakuya has some modes they have yet to cover–why do another Seraphim version? BECAUSE SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL, that is why! Unlike the first this is a giant 1/6 scale, and she’s… well, stripped down. While she has more wings (with a glitter finish!) her clothing is, shall we say, more minimalistic. It’s only ribbons, really. But I feel like this figure just captures Tony Taka’s art so well. The only think I’m worried about is the price tag, but let’s be real. She’d have to be over $200 for me to not bite the bullet for this beauty. [via Kotobukiya’s figure blog]

  • Kotobukiya usually doesn’t have many anime-related figures at US conventions, so it was a nice surprise to see quite a few of them out at their booth at Toy Fair this year! Of course there is nothing new really, though there’s many we haven’t seen in person (like the unpainted sculpts for Olivia and Seraphim Sakuya, both of whom are HUGE and so pretty in person!). Of course there were a ton of ArtFX J boys, Shining World figures, some sneaky Metal Gear model kits, and the lovely Yui from Muv-Luv. Check them all out and more in the gallery!

  • We have already seen quite a few figures from Kotobukiya: the Dangan-Ronpa announcement, Lum, Hitagi, Rikka, and Eren. You might have noticed a few figures from the teasers not covered yet: well they were there too, of course! We’ve got the header gal, Bishoujo Starfire, who is looking amazing. Seriously, the hair. I don’t even care about how tacky her outfit is THAT HAIR. Speaking of clear hair, I think it made Fairy Asuna look a little pale in the event lights: hopefully her promo ones are stronger. Then we’ve got Ikaros, who I am totally in love with (wingssss), and Kilmaria Aideen from Shining Ark whose pose is more playful and fun than I thought it would be. [via Akibahobby]

  • Winter Wonder Festival is just around the corner, and that can mean only one thing: teasers! Kotobukiya is, unsurprisingly, first up to the plate with a batch of 6 shiny images hinting at the goodies they will be bringing to the event. 4 of them are of announced figures: Bishoujo Starfire is painted, as is Ikaros and their Titania Asuna. Then we’ve got the sculpt for Kilmaria Aideen from Shining Ark. Both of their new figures come as a bit of a surprise. The first is a figure of Hitagi, who they have already taken on twice! In fact, their second figure of her only came out about a week ago. This time she’s in winter garb, and you can see the art the figure is based on in the gallery. The second is a figure of Saber Extra–seeing as how GSC is also working on a version of her, I wonder how many Neros we will be seeing at WonFest? [UPDATE] Added a bonus image of Cu-Poche Homura! • You would think that by now I would be sick and tired of all the versions of Maxima/Sakuya/Viola that we have seen. There is Kotobukiya’s original one, Yamato’s take on her, Cerulean Mode, Crimson Mode, and the just-colored Viola. And, of course, Kotobukiya’s Seraphim Sakuya, who was painted at MegaHobby. But, surprise surprise, I’m not tired of them at all! In fact, give me all of the versions. There are still a few that haven’t gotten figures yet. But of all of them, I think this (and the upcoming Viola from AlphaMax) are my favorites. Wings, feathers, ruffles, bows, garters, flowing hair, clear PVC, soft colors, Tony Taka… it is just so many things I love! Sadly she is very, very pricey: at ¥15,800 she would be expensive even for a Good Smile figure… and this is Koto. Not that Koto has lower craftsmanship (at this point, I consider them near top-tier), but they’re usually so reasonably priced! [via moeyo]

  • Merry Christmas Eve, Plastikitties! Of course magazine scans decided to drop on one of the busiest days of the year–usually we get them on the 21st or 22nd, but this year Japan decided “hey, let’s wait until those crazy Americans are actually doing something!” So this month we are keeping it short and sweet. This is an action packed bunch of scans: MegaHouse has their Dragon’s Crown Sorceress sculpted, release info for their Amazon, and more IDOLM@STER goodies (of course). AlphaMax has a surprise sculpt of Saber Bride that looks amazing! Hyakka Ryouran has a ton of figures in these scans: Inshun Houzouin from Alter, Mataemon Araki from Kaitendoh, and a painted Naoe from New Line. Clayz is bringing a Takeshi Miyagawi Ymir sculpt to PVC (FINALLY!), and MegaHouse’s new Liliana is painted. Amakuni is redoing their Noel (again), this time with a tweaked sculpt, and their Shimakaze is done too. The Seven Sins Satan is… still just a sculpt, and the second Asmodeus is here in more detail. We’ve also got a repaint of Koto’s Kobato, which I am honestly not feeling at all. On the Tony Taka front, swimsuit Nellis is sculpted and looking amazing, and the AlphaMax Viola is painted (and I’m in love!). We’ve got lots of Nendos and the Snow Miku figma, Fairy Tail’s Erza Scarlet, and FREEing has their yukata Tamaki and Inori painted. And last but not least, Alter’s Hayate and Max Factory’s Cerberus make appearances. Phew, that’s a lot of stuff! Check them all out in the gallery. [via Figure/GK]

  • Oh Seraphim Mode Sakuya, let me count the ways I love you. Your long brown hair, your corset top, your angelic wings, the abundant gratuitous use of clear PVC, your wondrous bow, your frills, feathers on the base even though you don’t have feathers in your wings… wait, does your bow have wing feathers? How does that even work? I don’t even care because I’ve loved you for so long, Seraphim Sakuya. You look even better than the painted teaser. Your only flaw is that you’re not in my house right now. • Kotobukiya’s Seraphim Mode Sakuya has been on my lust list for a long time. I know some people may be tired of her: after all, Kotobukiya has now given us four versions of Tony Taka’s brunette sweetheart! This one, the original, Cerulean Mode, and Crimson Mode. Then of course, there’s Yamato/Arcadia’s take on the character, and the upcoming AlphaMax figure. But in my mind, none of them really come close to this beauty. Her sculpt is absolutely astonishing, and I was blown away by it. I’ve always loved Koto, but recently they’ve gone from being a good, solid company to jumping to the ranks of Good Smile, Alter and Max Factory. If Olivia and Seraphim Sakuya come out anywhere close to their promo shots, I don’t think anyone will be questioning their validity as a top-tier producer anymore. [via Kotobukiya’s Blog]

  • There are few combinations I love more in life than Tony Taka, elf ears, and headwings. Elwing is one of my all-time favorite characters for those reasons alone (though her adorable face, sweet personality, and awesome outfit also help). So I was excited to find out that Shining Ark has a similar character, with one major addition: TWINTAILS. Thank you based Tony Taka. I was cautiously optimistic about Griffon’s sculpt for Shannon, but of course they’ve crushed my dreams, stepped on them, put them in a box, mailed the box to themselves, and smashed it with a hammer. She looks so flat and lifeless. Where’s the shading, the spark of life?! This looks like a figure from 2008. For shame, Griffon, FOR SHAME. [via Akibahobby]
