  • Oh, Orchid Seed. They used to be one of my top 3 favorite companies but we’ve had something of a falling out lately. They’re just so damn slow! It’s been over 4 years and I am still waiting for my library girl. Spoiler alert: she’s not at this event either. I mean, to be fair, they did have a lot of new: including two of my most anticipated figures from them, Kureha and Tamaki, painted. Also lots of new Seven Sins stuff, which makes me wonder how much production & time it’s eating up. I mean, they have over 20 figures still in the art stage! But thankfully, it seems like we have no new art announcements this time. Maybe next year I’ll get library girl… [via Dengeki]

  • If you read Plastikitty even moderately regularly, you probably know that I have a serious Tony Taka addiction. I’ll buy pretty much any figure that he’s done the art for (with the notable exception of Griffon’s recent figures, shudder). My very first Tony Taka figure was Kotobukiya’s Elwing, who was one of the first PVC figures I ever bought. This was quickly followed up by their Kureha, and then… Celestia! I think she’s what really got the addiction going, probably because of dat hair sculpt. She also has the honor of being the figure that got my mom into collecting: she loved Celestia so much, she bought her own! And it’s actually the one I used for this shoot, since mine is still in a box… somewhere. Celestia still has a special place in my heart, even if Max Factory, Alter, and Kotobukiya’s new takes on TT art greatly surpass her in quality. Looking at her critically (which is hard, due to my nostalgic fondness) I can see some issues: the stiffness of her hair around the ears, the perfect and unrealistic circle created by her skirt. But she still has some beautiful aspects that override everything else, and taking her out for a shoot rekindled my love affair with Celestia. You’ll always be one of my favorite elves!

  • Ever since Yamato switched their name to Arcadia, I’ve been feeling a lack of oomph, which is solidified by their Wonder Festival lineup. There’s like… nothing new. Bad Arcadia, bad! They don’t even have Shunya’s Soniko painted! Well, they do at least have a new Soniko–an action figure, part of their Neuromancer line, in her sailor outfit. Which we have seen zero figures of, so at least it’s something fresh! They also had Neuromancer Rei and Asuka out, so while it’s been 3 years (possibly 4 years?) since their announcement… they are still working on them! No Rei’s not painted, these things take time! Yeah, 3 years.. to paint a figure… what are you, Orchid Seed? The only thing here I can get really excited about is their painted Blanc Neige who looks even better than the raw sculpt. Now to wait 6 months for orders… [via Akibahobby]

  • AmiAmi has this nasty habit of combining our orders into big glumps that overlap between months. So, for example, we might not get some of our January stuff until the beginning of March (yet mysteriously it will be with not just February but March items as well). You may have noticed that we skipped a January loot post: well, that’s because we didn’t even get all our figures from it until a few days ago! But thankfully January and February seemed to be smaller months than most, so we’re just going to combine them into a mega loot post! Check it all out after the jump.

  • We all know by now that Arcadia is just Yamato in a clever disguise, so let’s lump them together! After all, there are only 3 new figures in total. The first is the art for that Shunya Soniko, which is so cute! I am sure many people will be happy about how clothed she is. The kitten Soniko isn’t painted yet… Then we have a lovely version of Blanc Neige, I hope this means their Maxima will be up for order soon? And finally, an original character from Shirow Masamune. His past one came out so lovely, let’s hope this follows suit! [via Figure/GK]

  • December was (obviously) the last month of 2012, and boy was it a doozy. Even with the massive amount of delays that came late in the year it was just totally jam-packed with releases. In fact, this might actually be our biggest month of orders… ever. Well, maybe excluding July of 2010, where we had an entire wall of loot from SDCC. But in terms of imports, yeah, it’s a bit overwhelming! So hit the jump to check out all the goodies.

  • Tony Taka’s Shining World characters and games have to be one of the longest-lasting figure franchises. I can’t think of another franchise that has as much merchandise–Fate/Stay Night is the only one that comes close! Though Shining World wins hands-down in terms of variety. Well, maybe the Touhou girls too, but they are definitely newer. We’ve been getting figures of the Shining girls for 7 years now with no end in sight (thankfully). If anything they’ve picked up speed with the Dollfie Dreams and Alter line! However, Kotobukiya was first on the scene and continues to be the most prolific Shining World manufacturer. Elmina here, who we saw painted a while back, is a rehash of her first figure from back in 2009. This is a lighter, more cheerful take on her based on her appearance in Shining Blade, and thankfully her pricetag is only ¥600 higher than the original release at ¥6,800. She’ll come out in May, and I am definitely considering picking her up since I don’t have any Elminas in my collection! [via Kotobukiya’s Store]

  • Four months ago, Kotobukiya announced that they’d be doing a second figure of Elmina Rhoderia from Shining Wind. This is her Shining Blade version, but as we saw in magazine scans it’s actually a resculpt/second version of their original figure from 2009. I actually find this one cuter: the hands and face are what sell me! She is also one of the very few Shining World figures I am missing, so I’m happy to have a second chance at her. [via moeyo]

  • MegaHobby Expo Autumn 2012 is just around the corner, so it’s time for some teasers! Kotobukiya is first up with quite a few. Their Asuna is painted, and they’ll also have Elmina and Mikoto that we just saw in magazine scans. They also have a sculpt for plugsuit Cryska, and last but not least a brand-new reveal: Shiozaki Haruno from One Off! I’m not entirely sure who she is, but that art is SO cute.
