  • Are you ready, guys? Because Wonder Festival has begun! Actually, it’s about half an hour away, but companies love to make me miserable by tweeting out their own stuff before doors even open. Yayy. First up today is Aquamarine, who has a small but nicely curated collection of figures. I of course love the Caroline & Justine the most, so presh so mean. We’ve also got IDOLM@STER, Girls und Panzer, Galko-chan, Sakura Wars, an announcement from Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka??, and a surprise Tony Taka gal. [UPDATE] with an absolutely STUNNING Gwendolyn, along with Asuna and a few other cuties. [via Aquamarine’s Twitter]

  • Aquamarine is not a company that usually brings the wow factor to events. I expect a small booth from them with a handful of sculpts, and way too many announcements. But they really brought it this year! Tons of new stuff and some truly awesome looking figures, like the header girl Jack-O’ Valentine from Guilty Gear. How cool is she?! Sadly, none of the 5 million Sabers they announced were there, and Justine & Caroline from P5 are still unpainted. But there’s PriPara, a gorgeous Rin Shibuya from Cinderella Girls, plenty of Girls und Panzer, Galko-chan, Angel Beats, Hiro Hayima from King of Prism (a boy from Aquamarine?!), and the impressively muscular Jam Kuradoberi. Plus we’ve got announcements! From Shining World, Won Pairon and Altina Mel Sylphis, and also a very casual-looking Asuna. [via moeyo]

  • Vertex used to make big, ambitious figures. They bust onto the scene with the entry plug Evangelion figures, after all! But recently their “make every figure have huge boobs” hasn’t seemed to be working so well, and production has definitely slowed down. They only had 4 figures on display at Wonder Festival, and two of them (the Shining Blade Sakuya bikini figures) were just color variations! They also had the weird Christmas Sonico out, along with Mitsumi Gijou from Tokyo Necro. Sadly, still no Noel or the new Selvaria. They did have an announcement for a bikini elf girl with art that looks like Tony Taka except it’s actually Tsurusaki Takahiro. Thrilling. [via moeyo]

  • Guys, I think Flare finally got me. I keep insisting, “No, too expensive, don’t need it!” But this year, I want everything so bad. Mostly because it’s almost entirely Tony Taka, which I can always get behind. Swimsuit versions of Won Pairon and Altina Mel Sylphis, and they’re doing a cute teacher (?!) Sakuya. The Rei from their teasers is here (but no sign of Noah yet, weird) and they WILL INDEED be doing a matching Asuka!! Yuss. We also have the beautiful dress Gwendolyn from last WonFest sculpted, and announcements for YoRHa No. 2 Type B from Nier: Automata and an original character from Happoubi Jin. [UPDATE] Finally found Noah, and added Saber Bride as well! [via Hobby Search]

  • So MegaHobby was, like, 3 days ago but apparently it’s totally time for another event to happen! Because all the companies not at MH had to do something with their time. First up is Vertex, aka “how do boobs work because I’ve never seen a human female.” There are so many hilarious boobs on display! From seasonally appropriate boobage (the Valkyrie Chronicles girls, and Santa Sonico–remember when she had a realistic bust?), to cyber boobage (Purple Heart, whose boobs are trying to escape her body), to the traditional gravity-deftying boobage (Fiona from Border Break!). But there were almost-realistic girls on display too, like Sakuya from Shining Blade. And their announcements, like Noel from Blazblue, are pretty surprising given their usual demographic. Brunhilde from Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria is, however, exactly what I’d expect from them. [via Vertex’s Twitter]

  • By now you all know how very much I love Tony Taka figures, especially the ones based on the Shining World series. One of my very first PVC figures, and the first one I ordered without knowing the character, was Kotobukiya’s original Elwing. And it’s been Tony Taka all the way down since then. I especially love AlphaMax’s takes on his work, from the more conservative ones to the figures based on his NSFW art. This is one of the former, which is significantly more rare for them. It’s Sonia Blanche from Shining Resonance, and this figure really feels like a spiritual successor to the (presumed) dead Orchid Seed Shining World line. The gentle pose, the soft colors, the unusual design… I’m in love! She is 1/7 scale and will retail for ¥12,800 with a May release, and orders are open now! • Figure prices are skyrocketing, the yen is tanking, figure collectors are being driven out of the hobby. So you know what we need? More figure events! Clearly. That will solve things. So what’s this show? It’s not Wonder Festival, not MegaHobby, not CharaHobby… it’s Hobby Show! The most generically named figure event of all time. Of all time. KanColle was, unsurprisingly, the main focus. We had a LOT from Max Factory: Harbour Princess and Atago both showed up, though unpainted. Figmas of Fubuki & Shimakaze along with the figFIX Mutsu were on display, along with non KanColle figmas: most notably the figma and Plamax Yoshika from Strike Witches. Plus the Metal Gear Solid, Expelled from Paradise,  and Ghost in the Shell figmas! And we have KanColle Nendos too: Akitsushima and anime version Fubuki. Plus an announcement from Aoshima, they’ll be doing a figure of Akitsushima. Of course there were a (few) non-Kantai girls and boys. Most notably, Tomytec is making Ushio to Tora Nendoroids of Ushio Aotsuki and Tora. Kotobukiya brought a handful of figures from Rage of Bahamut, Shining Resonance, Aquarion Logos, Tales of Zestiria, and Mononoke. And last but not least, Aoshima is picking up a gorgeous garage kit of Kongou from Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova! [via Hobby Search’s Blog]

  • Guys, guys… magazine scans are back! We have an actual batch of things that aren’t just “everything MegaHouse is doing that we already knew about!” Like, new figures and stuff! Okay, so it’s more like “pictures with an ungodly amount of flash” rather than, you know, scans, but it’s progress. Maybe one day we’ll be back to the golden days of actual scans. But for now, we’re close enough. This month we’ve got lots of goodies, including actual new figures–like that grown-up Aldra people have always wanted, an alternate Beelzebub from Seven Deadly Sins, and a recolor of Won Pairon from AlphaMax. We’re also getting a look at MegaHouse’s Bulma (she’s in a bunny outfit!) and quite a few figures are painted: MegaHouse’s Seiten, Kotobukiya’s Kirika, the new Thai Queen Racing Miku, and Phat!’s Rin Suzuboki. Check them all out below! [via Figure/GK]

  • Kotobukiya had a lot to show us at Summer Wonder Festival, but of course I was most excited for the Tony-related products. And today, we’re taking a closer look at two of them! The first is Kirika Towa Aruma from Shining Resonance. After the limited (and disappointing) AlphaMax version of her, I’m so happy anther company is taking her on. It actually seems like she’s painted, though we are only getting a teaser here… perhaps orders will start soon? Then we have the third butterfly sister, Freesia, who follows Daisy-chan and Annabelle. This is a line I’ve been smitten with since the beginning, and Freesia’s color palette is quite different than her sisters’ so I think they’ll look great together! Freesia’s sculpt looks a little cleaner than what we saw at WonFest, but no painted updates yet. In fact, Koto hasn’t put up a ton of non-Bishoujo figures since the event, I wonder when we’ll start seeing this stuff in shops! [via Kotobukiya’s Blog]

  • Kotobukiya showed us quite a bit in previews, but of course there are always surprising things on display! This year there’s a lot of Tony Taka: the new butterfly sister is sculpted, and we have several of the Shining girls on display: the gorgeously perfect Rinna Mayfield, and Kirika. The Bahamut girls are out as well, along with Shinobu & Maia Tsukigane from the teasers. Plus Fuyuka Yukishiro from magazine scans. There were, of course, boys on display too! They’re making a figure of Mikleo from Tales of Zestiria, plus two Touken Ranbu guys: Hotarumaru and Shokudaikiri Mitsutada. There’s also new Kantai Collection girls: Akatsuki & Hibiki. Not enough announcements? They are also working on a figure from Dragon III and Chino Kafuu. Plus tons more. Check it all out in the gallery! [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]
