@GeekeryDo: @mikeyturvey I agree with you. I stopped reading them because I got tired of it, though @Sir_Narwhal is correct that it's normal for comics.

@GeekeryDo: @Sir_Narwhal @mikeyturvey yeh but that's just one arc and it's easy to read it all since, as you said, it's been put together like that.

@NFern0: @Sir_Narwhal Sounds like (ohoho) specialist equipment. Black Friday is more mass consumer oriented isn't it?

With Good Smile Company’s version of adult Shinobu apparently on indefinite suspension, it’s time for another company to swoop in and fill the vampire-shaped hole in our hearts. And at Wonder Festival, we found out that company is apparently Kotobukiya! Of course it’s not grown-up sexy Shinobu but super-cute kid Shinobu but hey, Bakemono-beggars can’t be choosers.
Unlike the other scaled figure of her that we have (which happens to be from GSC), this features her in a summer sundress and a matching hat! But of course she comes with an extra devilish face if it’s all a bit too sugary-sweet for you. The only thing irking me is her right leg, which is at a super awkward angle… but her face is so adorable I don’t know if that will stop me from getting her.

In the past year or so, Alter has consistently been having less than wow-worthy conventions: perhaps splitting their figures between MegaHobby and WonFest isn’t the best idea, since we only get half as much from them as from other companies. In any case, I’m not that impressed by their Summer 2013 lineup aside from Labrys and Soniko who we already covered.
There aren’t a ton of new sculpts: we have Summer Holiday Hayate and child Hayate, who were already announced… and that’s it. Signum, Miu Takanashi and Aty are painted (Aty in particular looks AWESOME). And Zelos Wilder is just kinda hanging out there. Oh, and there are lots of “just announcements.” Natsuki Shinomiya and Shou Kurusu will join their Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ line, there’s a To LoveRU Darkness figure we’re not allowed to see, they’re taking on Akane Isshiki from (yawn), we’re finally getting Tamako Market characters (Anko Kitashirakawa), and… they’ll be doing Shinobu from Nisemonogatari, who seems very popular lately! Some exciting announcements, let’s see if the sculpts hold up.

One of Kotobukiya’s Wonder Festival teasers was of Hitagi in a reclining position, but it seems like that’s not the only Monogatari heroine they had up their sleeve. While of course they do have Hitagi at the event–and looking pretty fabulous I must say–they also have Shinobu! She was one of the only girls they didn’t do with their first round of Bakemonogatari girls, so I guess they’re starting up a Nisemonogatari line that will finally include this adorable vampire.

We tend to focus on PVC coverage during Wonder Festival because, well… those are the things most of us can buy! But really, there are about ten times as many garage kits at the event as pre-painted PVC. Actually… that might be underestimating it, the garage kit area is HUGE!
We’ve already shown you some of the kits that will be at the event like Purple Heart, Yagyuu Toshiyuki’s Marisa Kirisame, an acrobatic Saber Bride, chibi Saber Lily, Toda Satoshi’s terrifying Passionlip, and Coneckers’ Momiji. But of course there are a ton more, and we’ve got some really lovely kits this time around. My personal favorites are Vispo’s astonishing Jeanne d’Arc & her horse–though Jeanne seems very popular this WonFest!–, the bathing suit IDOLM@STER trio, the gory Labrys, and Atelier Hiro’s punk rock Miku Hatsune. And my oh my do we have a lot of Mikus. Chec them all out (and plenty more) in the gallery!

We all know that ques Q likes to take on interesting sculpts, so it was really no surprise when they released Ending versions of Bakemonogatari’s Hitagi and Mayoi, which are getting a recolor for Wonder Festival. But the sculptor, Gekka, has done pretty much the entire cast in this style–including two new ones, Araragi and a second Hitagi, which will be in gk form at the upcoming Winter Wonder Festival!
We have shots of those two in the gallery, along with his Shinobu, Nadeko, Tsubasa and Kanbaru, all of whom have both colored and black & white versions! I think it’s clear that ques Q will make more in the line, but who will they choose next? Personally I really like the Shinobu, she’s just so cute.

Figures rarely go missing but it does happen occasionally. In fact, most of the ones in our first Whatever Happened To…? still haven’t shown up! We did eventually get Luka and the Panty & Stocking gang, but the rest of them? Vanished! Some were cancelled, some just lost in the figure abyss.
But time has passed, and now we have new missing figures! Quite a few, in fact. But of course missing in action doesn’t always mean gone forever, right? Right? ;~; Hit the jump to check out the figures we’re hoping will reappear!

Nisemonogatari seems to be hugely popular, which is no surprise since it’s basically fanfiction for Bakemonogatari by the creator. I’m sure we’ll see at least a few PVC figures from the show at the upcoming Wonder Festival, but of course garage kit makers have beat them to it! We’ve got a bevy of beauties here, from a unique take on the vampire loli Shinobu to some very adorable versions of the Araragi sisters. Check them all out in the gallery, and let us know if you’re hoping to see these ladies in a more buyable form!

At Wonder Festival, Good Smile Company unveiled their grown-up Shinobu aka the “Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade” version. Cause, you know, normal names aren’t good enough for Bakemonogatari! GSC’s version is actually a mass-produced version of a garage kit by circle Astral Body’s sculptor Rooney, who also worked on Alter’s stunning Milla.
The garage kit has been painted, and this is pretty much a taste of what the finished PVC will look like. So basically, it’ll be gorgeous! I love the simple color palette and it seems like she’ll really stand out among their other Bakemono figures who have more subdued colors.

This week had a flurry of toy news. Between coverage of the Mokei Hobby Show and the flood of NYCC news, as well as our preparation for event coverage, I must admit that the new release of the week got a bit lost! I went back over it all last night and realized that there were a surprising number of wonderful figures that I’d totally let slip under my radar. There were the usual duds, like Beat’s bizarre new offering, but for the most part the offerings were pretty excellent!
