Kotobukiya is so unpredictable with their Bishoujo announcements! We always know that big events in both the US & Japan will have a few, but they tend to spring totally finished figures on us out of nowhere. Like today, when we’re getting the fully sculpted and painted Kill Bill Bishoujo! Her art was over a year ago, so perhaps it’s not so surprising that we’re getting it before 2016 is over.
I was really sold by the art, but I’m not sure how I feel about the finished version. I feel like the face is missing the angst and attitude you expect from the Bride. It’s a little too placid for my taste, though I do think the pose & outfit came out looking very on-model and happily not overly sexed up.

It’s only been a short while since Kotobukiya showed off the painted Bishoujo Chucky sculpt, but apparently it’s already time for Tiffany to make an appearance! This is a very fast turnaround on both of them, given that the art was unveiled last February.
We don’t have any full images of her, just this atmospheric shot of the devilish duo. They both look amazing, and I had pretty high expectations for Tiffany given that it’s the same sculptor as Chucky. I bet they’ll look perfect together out in display!
[UPDATE] Full pictures are in the gallery! She’s also up for pre-order.

There seems to be a pattern with me and the Horror Bishoujo line. When we first find out about an announcement, I’m skeptical (“cute girl Chucky?” I say to myself. “No thanks.”). The art is unveiled and I’m basically won over because it’s always so good. Then we get the sculpt, and I’m totally in love. It happened with Edward Scissorhands, and it’s happening again with Chucky, who I think I actually like the most of the line so far!
She’s just so adorable but also evil. The knife behind her back? Such a nice touch. Plus she comes with an alternate scarred head if you want a little more horror in your life. The sculpt here is just lovely, and we found out that Tiffany will be done by the same person so the two should fit together perfectly when they’re completed!

There are always new things happening in the Bishoujo line, but by far my favorite recent one was the announcement that Squirrel Girl was not, in fact, just an April Fool’s joke. And then the reveal of her sculpt, which is just painfully adorable (and right now has one of the best Shunya Yamashita faces Kotobukiya has ever done).
We got to take a close look at her at New York Comic Con. The sculpt is so crisp: I especially like her spiky hair, acorn earrings, and (surprise) her little squirrel pal! Because I think 90% of figures would be improved by having an animal companion.

The star of Kotobukiya’s Marvel display at NYCC was, of course, Squirrel Girl. But there was much more, including quite a few Bishoujos: Lady Deadpool, Spider Gwen, and Loki & Thor were all out and about. In fact, they had two Spider Gwens: Bishoujo and the new ArtFX+. For the first time ever, I think I might actually like the ArtFX+ better.
They had tons of statues out, like the Civil War battle diorama of Captain America and Iron Man (which would look amazing displayed with Hulkbuster). Check them all out in the gallery!

Kotobukiya had a panel at New York Comic Con today, and with it we got quite a few brand-new announcements! Including, of course, quite a few from their Bishoujo lines. We have the info for the next Marvel Bishoujo: Ms. Marvel! Yes, they did one of her before, but this is a different character: the new Kamala Khan, who I am very excited for. She’s such a unique character in the Marvel universe, and I’m loving the brief silhouette they showed off. Between her, Spider Gwen, and Squirrel Girl, I’m really looking forward to the new direction their Marvel line is going in.

I am really surprised by how consistently smitten I’ve been with the Horror Bishoujo line. As a hardcore horror fan it seems right up my alley, but I was hesitant about gender-swapped, sexified versions of my faves. After Edward Scissorhands and Chucky & Tiffany’s art reveal, I knew it was love, and Bishoujo Chucky’s sculpt has just solidified my love for this line.
She’s SO CUTE, guys. The cheeky pose, the amazing job they did on her face, the intricacies of her outfit sculpt, the sneaky knife behind her back… even though I am mortally petrified of dolls coming to life, I want her. I mean, if this little cutie got up and started walking around my apartment I wouldn’t even mind. As long as she keeps the knife to herself. And how creepy is the alternate face? Yes please.

Hello Plastikitties, did you miss us? You may have noticed that we were MIA this week, because we’re basically dying from the flu. But not even that can stop us from going to NYCC!
Kotobukiya had, of course, a lot of Bishoujo-related merchandise in their booth this year, but they star of the show is definitely their sculpt for Squirrel Girl. This figure started off as an April Fool’s joke, but her art reveal at SDCC showed that they took the fan’s clamoring for her seriously. And how cute is this sculpt?! So adorable, I love her face and pose and basically everything about her. It’s great to see some variety in the line in terms of sex appeal, we rarely get to see figures this cute from Shunya.

I’ve really done a heel face turn on Kotobukiya’s version 2 Harley Quinn Bishoujo: my feelings have gone from annoyance at the idea to true love of the execution. If I had one small complaint it was that I’m not a huge fan of the red/blue color scheme, but that is being fixed with her special NYCC colorway! Which will be classic red and black, of course.
If you’re not going to the event, don’t worry! Harley is limited and exclusive, and of course will be easy to just pick up in person at their booth, but there’s a way for all Bishoujo fans in the US to get her. Pre-orders are open on their site right now for $74.99. They’ll probably go fast, so don’t hesitate if you want this release!
