Spider-Woman Archive

  • For once, fan consensus is in agreement about one of Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo figures: there’s no denying that Spider-Woman is one of their best ever. And if you are going on face accuracy alone… well, I don’t know if there is another girl who can top her! However, I have a strange and irrational hatred of yellow outfits so while I loved our up-close look at her, I wasn’t over the moon about adding her to my Bish collection. Thankfully, Kotobukiya apparently is a mind reader (or, you know, knows to cash in on an amazing figure) and announced a second version for this year’s San Diego Comic Con. The change is subtle but enough to make me very happy: her outfit is now metallic, changing school-bus yellow to a lovely molten gold.

  • It’s no secret that Kotobukiya’s Marvel Bishoujo Spider-Woman has been one of my favorites from the line–I was practically drooling when we got to see her up close and in person. So when I found out that they’d be doing another colorway of her, I was pretty excited! Secretly I was hoping for an alternate black & white version, but instead we’re getting metallic. While it’s not as drastically different as some people were hoping for, I’m really happy that the yellow has switched to gold. Yellow is one of my least favorite colors, so I’m digging this redone version. Plus, you know, she looks like a Gryffindor! She is limited to only 800 pieces and will be at booth #3345 at SDCC. Not sure if you dig this version? We’ll be reviewing her before the event! [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • We already took a quick peek at Kotobukiya’s Marvel Bishoujo Spider-Woman, and although she’s already up for order, we actually never got to take a gallery of her painted… and now’s as good a time as any! Many have made claims that she has the best Bishoujo face (though I think Starfire is giving her a good run for her money), so of course I had to see this beauty up close and personal. The things that bug other people about this figure–her super clear hair and the spider-web armpits–are the parts I love the most. And the only thing really keeping me from having her in my absolute top is the boob sock effect… though it’s mitigated a little bit by the wrinkles in her suit, I find it kind of a throwback to how busty many of the original Bishes were. But her face is absolutely gorgeous, and her pose is so original! Ahh, internal boob conflict. We meet again.

  • The Bishoujo line is Kotobukiya’s bread and butter, especially for the US market, so of course they had a ton on hand for this year’s Toy Fair! Sadly no new announcements since it seems like they’ve been posting all the high-res art to Facebook, but we got a close look at a lot of the new designs! Freddy & Jason, Jubilee, Nina Williams and Juri. A few sculpts were on display as well, including the totally gorgeous Spider-Woman whose final base we are finally getting a peek at! Of course we will have full behind-the-glass galleries of all the brand-new sculpts later on as well~

  • Well this sure happened quickly! We just saw the sculpt reveal for the Spider-Woman Bishoujo at NYCC, and she’s already painted. But the Marvel Bishoujo line is the fastest moving (usually), so I guess it’s not really THAT surprising. In any case, here she is, all latex’d up and ready to fight crime. I was far from a huge fan of the art but I’ve been liking her more and more as the piece has progressed. Sure, she still has a boob-sock thing going on and the pose is a tad… questionable but come on she has spider webs in her armpits. How can you not like that? Also clear PVC hair, which I am unable to resist. [UPDATE] The official pictures from Kotobukiya have been added to the gallery. [via 310poco’s Twitter & Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • Shunya Yamashita is a respected but controversial artist. Lots of people love him, but it’s hard to deny that his pinup style can go a little over the top sometimes and border on trashy. I find his taste level to usually be okay, but I had a lot of issues with the Spider-Woman art. Boob-socks, awkwardly sexual crouching pose, a pelvis apparently made out of silly putty. But my opinion definitely warmed with the grey sculpt, which improves on a lot of areas. The pose is much more tasteful here, seeming more like crouching than, well…. you know, and they totally fixed the latex boob-sock effect. Plus her face is totally gorgeous! And the hair! Hopefully the paint comes out as nicely as the raw sculpt.

  • Sadly, unlike DC, there were no new Marvel announcements or reveals at the Kotobukiya panel, but we did get to learn a few new things about the lovely ladies on the horizon. Psylocke’s X-Force Ninja Outfit version will be out in December and is looking just as great as the last time we saw her. Next up, Spider-Woman, who we showed you a few quick pictures of her sculpt earlier, had a rough version of her base shown off, which will apparently be covered in cobwebs and change from the version seen here. Last, but not least, is the awesome Jubilee, who brought us all back to the 90s the other day. I can’t wait to add all three to my collection and I doubt anyone else can either.

  • A little under a month ago Kotobukiya announced their next Marvel Bishoujo: Spider-Woman! I wasn’t too happy with the art. Even though it’s a classic Spider-Man pose, I found it a bit tacky with a woman doing the posing. However, they had the sculpt at NYCC and (much like Starfire) I found her greatly improved in 3D! We also learned some interesting tidbits about the final piece. First off, her base will feature webbing in some way: hopefully a whole heap of it for her to sit on. She will also come with two faces, masked and unmasked. She’s unmasked here, and when we do our full panel post we’ll have a picture of her masked and also on a pillar base that will have webbing added to it later so you can get a more complete picture of what she will look like!

  • It has been a while since we got a new Bishoujo announcement for any line, but with New York Comic Con right around the corner it is definitely time for at least some teasers! But instead of a sneek peak we’re getting a full reveal of the newest lady to join the Marvel Bishoujo lineup: Spider-Woman! I’m kind of surprised it’s taken this long to get around to her, especially since we’ve had so many Spider-Man figures recently. I really love her face and hair, but I feel like Shunya is really pushing the tacky meter on her pose and boobs: it’s just a little too much for me. Hopefully they tone it down in the sculpt!
