  • In a galaxy far, far away, Good Smile Company was plotting on how to take all of our money… We have had quite a few figures from the new Star Wars movies, but for some mysterious reason there was a strange lack of Rey. I mean, she’s kind of the hero, so you would expect a little more merch. But it took two movies for us to finally get a Nendoroid of her! But yes, it’s finally happening: Rey Nendoroid! I’m going to be honest: I’m a little disappointed by this release. It’s really lacking in accessories (we basically only get lightsabers), and I wish we’d gotten a hair-up option. Or at least a mini Porg! She still looks pretty cute though, and ¥4,800 (and a July release) isn’t exactly going to break the bank. But I’m a little more hyped for the Kylo re-release because I missed him the first time around! Pre-order at: AmiAmi | HLJ | Hobby Search

  • Well, tonight’s a big night for Star Wars fans with the Episode VIII trailer coming out during Monday Night Football, but that said, we can’t forget about the movies that have already come out before it and the merchandise from those! Kotobukiya brought the whole lot of their Episode VII: The Force Awakens ArtFX+ figures including the new and amazing First Order Stormtrooper FN-2199 that comes with a blaster and whatever the electro thing is that he used in his fight with Finn. There were also some new additions to the original trilogy line namely, a Return of the Jedi Luke to go with the Darth Vader that is already released (and seen with Luke, that’s not a new figure for those wondering), and also a new standing Emperor Palpatine and Imperial Guard set. I’m personally loving the Luke and Vader together as it recreates quite an iconic moment in the series and I’m also loving both Palpatine figures who would be great for randomly placing around your house to scare others. Check out the gallery below and expect even more of an onslaught of figures come next year after Episode VIII is out.

  • One of the biggest announcements at last Wonder Festival was the reveal of a Kylo Ren Nendoroid from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I knew we’d be seeing some merchandise from it at the event, but I thought for sure Finn and Rey would be up first. Thankfully it’s the angsty little cinnamon roll who seems to be the most popular merch-wise! I assumed there’d be some fuss and buss (aka a million Kahotan posts) before Kylo went live, but he’s already up for order! And he comes with some cool accessories: his janky lightsaber, the bolt he stops in mid-air, Vader’s destroyed helmet, and of course an angry lil Adam Driver face. D’aww! Release date is June and he retails for ¥5,500. Pre-order At: HLJ | AmiAmi | HobbySearch

  • Are you feeling the Rogue One hype? Because it’s an inescapable vortex at this point. Not that I’m going to complain too heavily! Star Wars has never been my thing but 1) I really enjoyed The Force Awakens and 2) I am a sucker for adorable, awkward robots. And how cute is KS20! So cute! Giving me a really strong Castle in the Sky vibe. Though let’s hope he has a less sad fate. I prefer my quirky robots to have a happy ending.

  • We saw a ton of new Star Wars info at Kotobukiya’s panel, and some of it was even out on display already! Like the Flametrooper, whose flamethrower is truly impressive as you can see here. Do you think it will be clear PVC? Because we all know how I feel about that. They had troopers of every possible combination (including a very cool storming-the-beach diorama from Rogue One), chopsticks of every variation, BB-8 ice cube trays, and much more!

  • Of all the licenses that Kotobukiya tackled at their panel, Star Wars definitely had the most news and new merchandise. They’ve always done a lot with the franchise, but given that we have new, actually good movies I guess it’s not really a shock that we’re not getting bombarded with it! There’s a lot to cover so let’s jump right in. We got the rough concept sculpts for the Finn & Rey ArtFX+, along with an announcement for Poe & BB-8 and Chewbacca and Han!. They also had the sculpt for the Obi-Wan ArtFX+, along with the tragically hilarious news that he will come with an empty cape to display if you prefer Dead-Kenobi. They had quite a few new troopers: thew Snowtrooper & Flametrooper 2 pack, FN-2199, Scarif Stormtrooper, Death Trooper 2-pack, and a Death Trooper ArtFX. They will also be expanding the Droid line with R4 and R5 sculpts!

  • Rogue One is still a ways away, but companies are already pumping out figure prototypes for it. Though given the success of The Force Awakens, I guess that’s really not surprising at all! Nor is it that Bandai is one of the first to hop on this brand-new bandwagon. They’re always very punctual. So far, they’ve announced five S.H.Figuarts: K-2SO (aka not-Laputa-robot), Death Trooper, Stormtrooper, Shoretrooper, and Hover Tank Driver (surely the breakout star of Rogue). I’m just hoping for an eventual figure of Mads’ character, whoever that might be. [via Tamashii Nations]

  • This may seem sacrilegious, but I’ve never been a huge Star Wars fan. I was Team Trek as a kid, and that has definitely carried into adulthood. However, I think The Force Awakens has swayed me at least a little bit and I am now straight Kylo Ren trash. I want all the figures of him right now. And while he’s gotten a lot recently, I was really praying for Kotobukiya to make him in the ArtFX line which is a very decent 1/7 scale. Well, dreams do come true! He was revealed at San Diego Comic Con and we got to take a super-detailed look at my evil boo. There are so many beautiful details here, from the flowing clothing to all those snowy patches. Definitely feels like a scene from the movie come to life. I wonder if he’ll have an unmasked head… and if Finn & Rey will be joining the line. Or BB-8, please. • Earlier this week when we looked at Kotobukiya’s Star Wars figures, we of course took a little peek at their new Kylo Ren ArtFX+. But now it’s time for an extended look! Because who doesn’t love Kylo? Probably, you know, all the victims of his bizarre genocide. But other than that, totally a loveable guy. My only sorrow is that he doesn’t have an umasked head, but that’s really more a detail we’d see on a larger scale figure. Like a 1/6 Kylo! Wouldn’t that be nice? He could throw little tantrums. You’d wake up in the morning and the toys on his shelf would just be all over the floor… and you’d know just who to blame. This Kylo is nice and tiny, so you only have to worry about him shoving around your Nendoroids when he’s in a mood.
