  • At any event they attend, Good Smile Company and their numerous umbrella companies always steal the show. How can they not, with so much firepower? Of course Nendoroids were right at the forefront. Megumin, Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke, lots of KanColle (Hatsuzuki, Kiso, Pola), Caster Extra, Hajime Iwaizumi, and Boba Fett all made an appearance. And of course figmas too! We had Takao, Iowa, and Mumei on display. Max Factory brought their new To LOVEru girl, Yuuki Mikan, and we had FREEing’s bunny Ryuuko Matoi. Last but not least, there’s Phat!’s Parform Hikari Karibuchi and Saber. [UPDATE] Added a few stray figures! [UPDATE 2] Added one last announcement: 22 Niang and 33 Niang from Bilibili! • It’s almost fall, and you know what that means–new season, new Prize Fair. They’re on the 45th already, if you can believe it! And like always, the big 4 (FuRyu, Taito, SEGA, & Banpresto) had all the upcoming prize figures out on display. I always try to swear off prize figures, but like clockwork there are one or two that draw me back in. This time, funnily enough, it’s a collab I’ve basically ignored because I’m interested: the Madogatari figures. That Kiss-Shot in Homura garb, hnnng! There’s lots of other great stuff, and of course all the regulars (Evangelion, Miku, KanColle, Disney, Dragon Ball Z) were out in force. Check them all out in the gallery below! [via Dengeki]

  • I will freely admit that Aquamarine is one of those companies I don’t pay much attention to. But this Wonder Festival their Rise caught my eye (and heart) and the rest of their lineup does not disappoint! First and foremost (for me at least) is their sculpt for Elphet from Guilty Gear who is my outfit spirit animal. I want to dress like that all the time. Ears included. We have Charlotte and Lynette from Strike Witches, Megumi Katou from Saenai Heroine, Izumi Sagiri from Ero Manga-sensei (so cute!), their newest Vocaloid IA, Chino Kafuu with a giant spoon, Izuna from No Game No Life, Mirai Kasuga from IM@S Million Live, and an announcement for Sakura from Sakura Wars… in her battle outfit! Um yes please. All my yes. [via AmiAmi]

  • Alter used to be a company known for their big, flashy, ornate figures. And they still make some, but most of their releases are small and understated, but still gorgeously detailed. Like the IDOLM@STER and Love Live! lines, both of which of course made an appearance at Wonder Festival. Of course they’re my favorite Alter figs of the event. Just so perfect, so detailed, so CAT GIRLS. Okay, I’m lying, the surprise bunny Sora is probably my favorite. We have two Sabers: a lovely dress version of Saber Alter and a causal school Saber. Two of their Tales figures are painted: Edna and Julius Will Kresnik. Another boy is there too! Leonard Watch, who looks so cute. Purple Heart is finally sculpted along with Ema Yasuhara. Not enough? We have announcements for 3 (!!) more IM@S ladies: Anastasia, Minami Nitta, and Ranko Kanzaki. Plus Plachta from Atelier Sophie. [via amiami]

  • I really love Alter’s Strike Witches line, even though it’s not my usual type of thing. “But Leah, they’re animal girls!” you say. “With dynamic poses! You love that!” Well, yes, I do. But I also kind of hate really bland color palettes and most military themes, which this line has in droves. But something about it just draws me in: probably that Alter magic, which makes what should really be a dull color palette into something detailed and gorgeous. I’ve been buying their Strike Witches since the 2nd release! But for some reason, I feel like these are getting a little stale. Probably because they’re doing the same characters over & over: this is their second Charlotte, and it doesn’t seem any better in quality than the first one. Sure, the pose is way more dynamic, but I feel like the sculpting is actually less sharp and the angle looks a bit odd. I really wish they’d work on some of the newer girls! Or do more unique figures, like the Sanya x Eila swimsuit one. Orders open tonight. [via Alter’s Blog]

  • We’ve seen Alter’s Yuzuruha, but of course they had lots more at Megahobby Expo! I mean, they did just show off some stuff at that IDOLM@STER event but still, many goodies to be had. There were, of course, many of their Love Live! girls (seeing as how they are doing the whole cast): the Halloween Eri was there (which is technically Alpha x Omega), along with Maki Nishikino and Nozomi Tojou. We also have two Sabers: the previously announced Saber Alter is sculpted, and they’ve announced a new school uniform one. Personally, I don’t need any more Sabers, but man the dress on that Alter… The most exciting announcement (to me) is a dual figure of Charlotte and Laura from Infinite Stratos… as catgirls! It’s just too cute. We also have sculpts for Edna from Tales of Zestiria (who I seriously thought was another Saber), along with Julius Will Kresnik from Tales of Xillia 2. Gertrud Barkhorn, the last announced Strike Witch, is sculpted, and the rather risque Mea Kurosaki got a paint job along with Isuzu Sento. Check them all out below! [UPDATE] Added Yukina Himeragi from Strike the Blood [via whitenoize, prizeman_ufo & Hobby Search]

  • Miyazawa Model Exhibition is one of those “in-between” events. Nestled right in the middle of Summer WonFest and Fall MegaHobby, it’s a chance for companies to… not really show off much new. Let’s be honest, they save the big stuff for the big event, so we don’t get a ton of news from Miyazawa. But Good Smile Company & co brought, like, literally everything they’re working on (that we know about). Just a TON of stuff. Most of it was things we knew about, but we do have some updates: their lovely Felia is finally painted (and, well, no as pretty as I expected), Nendoroid Sheeda from Fire Emblem is finished, figma Yugi showed up, and basically we got a ton of other paint updates. The star of the show was definitely Mebae Miku: hopefully her orders open soon! [via Akibahobby]

  • Figure prices are skyrocketing, the yen is tanking, figure collectors are being driven out of the hobby. So you know what we need? More figure events! Clearly. That will solve things. So what’s this show? It’s not Wonder Festival, not MegaHobby, not CharaHobby… it’s Hobby Show! The most generically named figure event of all time. Of all time. KanColle was, unsurprisingly, the main focus. We had a LOT from Max Factory: Harbour Princess and Atago both showed up, though unpainted. Figmas of Fubuki & Shimakaze along with the figFIX Mutsu were on display, along with non KanColle figmas: most notably the figma and Plamax Yoshika from Strike Witches. Plus the Metal Gear Solid, Expelled from Paradise,  and Ghost in the Shell figmas! And we have KanColle Nendos too: Akitsushima and anime version Fubuki. Plus an announcement from Aoshima, they’ll be doing a figure of Akitsushima. Of course there were a (few) non-Kantai girls and boys. Most notably, Tomytec is making Ushio to Tora Nendoroids of Ushio Aotsuki and Tora. Kotobukiya brought a handful of figures from Rage of Bahamut, Shining Resonance, Aquarion Logos, Tales of Zestiria, and Mononoke. And last but not least, Aoshima is picking up a gorgeous garage kit of Kongou from Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova! [via Hobby Search’s Blog]

  • Figmas: those tiny poseable things that Max Factory and a few other companies make a ton of every year. So without further adieu, here’s a super long list of em. We already told you about Shizuo and Izaya from Durarara!!, but we’ve also got word that FREEing will be doing Celty as well. Also from FREEing we’ve got Akira Yuki and Sarah Bryant from the original Virtua Fighter, Femto, Void, Ubik, Slan, and Conrad from Berserk, Magic Kaito from, well, Magic Kaito, the Vitruvian Man, and what appears to be some sort of cherub, but is way too tiny and also only an outline to be able to tell. Then from Wing we’ve got Masaru Nananakajima from Sexy Commando Gaiden: Sugoi yo!! Masaru-san that we already saw in their previews. From Phat! Company we’ve got Sherlock Holmes, Ninja Slayer, and Yamoto Koki who is also from Ninja Slayer. Finally, rounding out weird third parties making figmas we’ve got Tactical System Uniform Girl by Tomytec. Then from Max Factory we’ve got a whole slew of things: Angela Balzac, two versions of the Archetype, Benisuzume from Knights of Sidonia, Erica Hartmann, Mio Sakamoto, and Yoshika from Strike Witches, a Fubuki anime ver. and Prinz Eugen from KanColle, and Miho Nishizuma Uniform ver. from Girls Und Panzer to round out our selection of anthropomorphic military vehicle females. We’ve also got a Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: Arise, Shirou from Fate Stay/Night: Unlimited Blade Works, Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yotaro from Arpeggio of Blue Steel, Mika and Rika Jougasaki from iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls, and Rin and Umi from Love Live to round out the anime selection. For video games we’ve got a Gurlukovich Soldier from Metal Gear Solid, Majima Goro from Yakuza, and the picture of the previously announced Samus from Metroid: Other M. • Of all the companies to get the first booth shots from WonFest, was anyone expecting it to be Aquamarine? But, well, here we are! They have quite a few new goodies on display, like sculpts for Menma (who we haven’t seen a figure of in AGES), and Shiro from No Game No Life. We also got that bikini Charlotte from Strike Witches! The focus seems to be on Type-Moon for them. They have a sculpt out for Sakura Saber, though based on the art her colors will be quite different from the GSC one. Then there’s an announcement for Devil Saber. How… how many Sabers are there?! [via HLJ]
