Strike Witches 2 Archive

  • I really love Alter’s Strike Witches line, even though it’s not my usual type of thing. “But Leah, they’re animal girls!” you say. “With dynamic poses! You love that!” Well, yes, I do. But I also kind of hate really bland color palettes and most military themes, which this line has in droves. But something about it just draws me in: probably that Alter magic, which makes what should really be a dull color palette into something detailed and gorgeous. I’ve been buying their Strike Witches since the 2nd release! But for some reason, I feel like these are getting a little stale. Probably because they’re doing the same characters over & over: this is their second Charlotte, and it doesn’t seem any better in quality than the first one. Sure, the pose is way more dynamic, but I feel like the sculpting is actually less sharp and the angle looks a bit odd. I really wish they’d work on some of the newer girls! Or do more unique figures, like the Sanya x Eila swimsuit one. Orders open tonight. [via Alter’s Blog]

  • Recently, Alter has been redoing the cast of the original Strike Witches, giving us double figures for a ton of the girls. They sprinkle in new characters here and there, but right now endless versions of the og 11 seems to be their bread and butter. Personally, I am all for this: for some reason, I just really love pantsless animal girls with weapons and propeller legs. It’s so preposterous! Their next endeavor will be a version 2 of Charlotte E Yeager. I’ve been really looking forward to this, because the original Charlotte is one of the only figures I have with leaning problems. This one also looks more dynamic, and I love her vibrant red outfit! [via Dengeki]

  • I used to be absolutely blown away by Alter’s displays at the seasonal festivals. Now I wonder: am I jaded from being in the collecting hobby for to long, or has the general quality/impressiveness actually taken a nosedive? Sure, there are some lovely figures on display here. We have two (well, 3 but 2 of them are 1 figure) Strike Witches girls, a shiny male figure, and the impressively sculpted Haruna. And how can I forget swimsuit Lorna? I’m a sucker for a wolf maid in a bikini. But there’s also some blah. Yui Kotegawa is nothing to write home about–she could have come out 6 or 7 years ago, honestly, the sculpt is so bland. And there’s yet another Saber–excuse me, I mean Back Alley Satsuki. I don’t know, nothing here is screaming “oh my god, figure of the year, BUY ME!” But what about you guys? See anything that you absolutely have to own? [UPDATE] Added Charles, who is finally painted! [via figsoku]

  • I was really uninpressed but Alter’s Summer WonFest 2013 offerings, but it seems like that’s because they were saving all the good stuff for MegaHobby Autumn 2013! We got a veritable deluge of figures: swimsuit versions of Charlotte & Cecilia, Akane Isshiki from Vividred Operation, two Strike Witches, a gorgeous new Sora Kasugano, Asuka from Senran Kagura, and The Muse of Range Murata. Of course they had even more great figures, but we’ll be taking a look at the rest a bit later! There was a whole lot to feast your eyes upon, but at the time we (obviously) only had event photography. Quick, “oh my god look at this figure!” event photography. But some time has passed, which means it’s time to sit back, relax, and browse some higher quality galleries of these gorgeous ladies. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but my money’s on Sora all the way. I mean…. that dress. She’s perfect! [via Tmizo’s Flickr]

  • After all this time… we might actually be nearing the end of Alter’s Strike Witches line! At least for the season one cast lineup. That’s right guys, Lynette Bishop is on the scene! Painted, sculpted, the whole nine yards. Though I don’t think this is the totally finished version, since the shading on her hair looks a little flat. To be honest she’s probably my least favorite Witch so my opinion of the sculpt reflects that: I’m not wowed. I am, however, head over heels happy that the second version Yoshika they announced is actually a redo of her original sculpt, unlike second version Sanya! Ahh, finally, Yoshika can join my Witches and the whole crew will be here. [via Iory Hamon’s Twitter]

  • After many long years, we are almost at the end of Alter’s Strike Witches line. Yes, for real! It’s actually going to be finished! If you told someone that 3 or 4 years ago they’d probably laugh in your face because this seemed like something that would never come to fruition, but now we’re not only going to get the full main core (fingers crossed… just Lynette now!), but we’ve gotten second versions of some Witches and even characters from 2! Francesca seems to be one of the most popular girls, so it’s odd that they waited so long to take her on. I loved her sculpt and I love her more painted: this is a line that doesn’t really seem “wow” until you’re actually looking at the figure in person. The detail is just astounding! I’m so happy that soon I’ll have all the girls. [via Hobbylog’s Twitter]

  • Alter’s Strike Witches line has been immensely popular over the (many) years they’ve been working on the line, and a complete set is a rare thing to see. Mostly because the first two girls, Yoshika and Sanya, are absolutely insanely priced on the aftermarket. You’d be lucky to find either of them for $200 shipped! Compared to the ones floating around retail (or in some cases dipping under!) it seems a little absurd. Thankfully Alter has realized it’s an issue for collectors and decided to do a second version of Sanya. Not quite as good as a re-release, but we’ll take what we can get! It seems like they’ll be doing something similar with Yoshika, but it’s listed as Yoshika 1.5 release which might mean they are actually going back to the old sculpt like they did with Sanada! • It’s that time again! For some people delays mean frustration: for me, it’s time to celebrate! Yay, figures I don’t have to pay for until next month… or later! Always a good thing. There’s not a whole lot of surprises here. Max Factory is continuing their massive slew of delays with SIX figures: Belldandy & Holly Bell, both Dark Elves, Kuroyukihime, and the re-releases of figmas Link & Samus. Not even re-releases out on time, MF? For real? Good Smile seems to be a bit better, with only two delays, both Nendoroids: the new Yoshika from Strike Witches and Maou. Then we’ve got Yu & Rise Pettankos from Phat! Company along with (shocker) their elaborate Bayonetta. Did anyone think she was coming out on time? For once all of these are only pushed back one month, but I’d be surprised if they all actually came out in October. [via GSC]

  • After a few rather lackluster months, the Hobby Japan scans are back on track! We have a pretty action-packed lineup for you this time around, with almost twice as many figures as we’ve been seeing the past few months. Though let’s start up with a bit of bad news: there’s rumors from these scans that figma Strength has been cancelled! Only rumors, but anyway, let’s get onto the good. We’ve got lots of ladies for you, and finally the return of Good Smile Company & co in the scaled figure section. I don’t know why they went missing for so long but oh well, they’re back now with some shiny goodies. We’ve also got not one but TWO devils from the Seven Sins lineup, which is awesome because for the past few months it’s been nothing but art. So without any more delays, hit the jump and let’s get right to the good stuff!

  • Welcome to the return of the roundup! Sadly we here at Plastikitty got hit by a nasty spring flu so we’ve been out of commission in terms of the roundup for a few weeks, but now we’re back in business! Though technically it’s the roundup for the week of 3/29~4/4 we’re also featuring some of the best figures from the week before as well. So what do we have in store? Tons of pretty ladies! In fact we’ve got releases from almost all the major manufacturers, including some that I have been really looking forward to. Check them all out after the jump!
