Summer WonFest 2012 Archive

  • So, our Summer WonFest wishlist was a bit of a failure. We didn’t get anything we wanted (though PersonaSpace came darn close!), but that doesn’t mean WonFest didn’t leave us drooling. There were tons of awesome announcements, some of which we’re more excited for than others. Lots of surprises, along with some figures we expected but were still thrilled to see. So what got our wallets crying at the event? Hit the jump and find out!

  • I’ve been dying to see ques Q’s Yuyuko completed since the art was first unveiled. We got a glimpse at the sculpt a while back and I was totally in love, but ques’ products are usually quite expensive when it comes to Touhou so she’d have to be absolutely amazing or I’d just go for the Griffon version. Well, she’s painted and looks gorgeous, but the resin kit is a whopping ¥15,000 so I shudder to think what the PVC release will be priced at. Well, we should find out soon since she’s coming out in January! [via cutanews]

  • Sakura Wars/Sakura Taisen‘s main heroine Sakura Shinguji sure is popular recently, with a Nendoroid and Dollfie Dream on the way! Now it seems she’s getting a scaled figure, courtesy of Volks which of course means it’ll be an exclusive… and expensive. However, it’s been quite a while since we got a scaled Sakura and there certainly aren’t any high-quality versions of her out there for fans this is a blessing as well as a curse! [via cutanews]

  • You may remember Vertex from their amazingly perfect Asuka. It seems like they are a company catering specifically to me, first with a version of my favorite character and now with one of my second-favorite! They’re taking on Mitsuru from Persona 3, but in her Persona 4 Arena outfit which is ridiculously awesome. Hopefully she doesn’t cost the same as their Asuka… but I’ll be honest, no price point will stop me from owning this! [via Figure/GK]

  • Hobby Japan used to pretty much just release figures for other people, but recently a few of their exclusives have actually been produced by them. Their newest exclusive, Miu Ousawa from Hagure Yuusha no Estetica, is one of those that they’ll be working on themselves! Her design seems interesting, especially the pink hair. Second is Leviathan, who is produced by Orchid Seed as part of the Seven Sins line. We saw her unveil in magazine scans, but she’ll be painted very very soon since her orders start on August 25th. Both will have 2013 releases and will of course be exclusives! [via tieba baidu]

  • While Tamaki’s popularity seems to be fading there were still quite a few versions of her at Wonder Festival, including two from what seems to be a new company called Orca Toys. Their website states that they are affiliated with BEAT, though there seem to be possible connections to Okayama Figure Engineering as well. In any case, I am always pleased to see more versions of Tama-nee, especially when they are of her in animal costumes! We’ve got a bunny version that’s painted and a cat one that is just sculpted so far, but they look good given that this seems to be a brand new company! [via moeyo]

  • News always manages to slip through the cracks at WonFest, just because of the sheer volume of it! We already wrote up the anime and game Nendoroids, but this little cutie was overlooked by pretty much everyone until today! It’s Alice from Momoiro Taisen Pairon, and while she’s certainly not a well-known character she’s incredibly cute! I love the drill-locks and outfit. [via Figure/GK]

  • Back in April, Volks announced that they were doing a CharaGumin T-ELOS to match their massive and amazing 1/4 scale KOS-MOS. Well, she’s sculpted now, but I have to say I feel like she looks a little masculine. Maybe the shoulders are a bit too wide? I dunno, something seems off to me, whereas KOS-MOS was pretty much flawless. Hopefully she looks better with paint! [via moeyo]

  • And now, time for the boys! The lone Aquarion Evol boy, Kagura, was on hand and painted. We’ve also got the Blue Exorcist (Aoi no Exorcist) G.E.M duo of Rin and Yukio Okumura. Rin is looking great, plus he has a little cat buddy! They finally showed off their teased Barnaby Brooks Jr. as well, though their super-limited nature makes me a bit hesitant to hop on board. Then there are the P.O.Ps, all of which we actually saw unpainted at MegaHobby. There’s Eustass Kid, Killer, and a chubby little Chopper. Last but not least is the unfinished sculpt of Gintama as a kid–how cute! [via moeyo & akibahobby]

  • MegaHouse usually saves their big reveals for MegaHobby Expo, so most of what they had on hand was relatively old. However, they did bring out figures in force! Since they had so many, we’re going to start off with the girls. They had all 4 of the Aquarion Evol girls on hand, along with their Medaka and Rise who we already took a look at. Of course they had to represent One Piece as well, so the swimsuit Nami and “Sailing Again” Perona were on display as well. Lastly, they had the Queen’s Blade figures they plan on re-releasing on display… but no new sculpts. Sigh, I didn’t get my wish! [via moeyo & akibahobby]
