Summer WonFest 2014 Archive

  • Kotobukiya had a lot going on at Wonder Festival, and as we all know the pictures that come out the fastest during an event usually aren’t the best. Because we want to get everything up in a timely fashion the sacrifice for speed over quality is just part of the news game, but it’s nice to have a closer, detailed look at the figures once the dust has settled! We’ve got all of Koto’s Shining World/Tony Taka girls in the gallery (of course), along with a bevel of swimsuit-clad beauties and, of course, the amazing Black Butler duo. So check them out after the jump! [via Akibahobby]

  • Back at Winter Wonder Festival we found out that MegaHouse would be producing a figure of Yato from Noragami, one of the best shows of the winter season, and now, at Summer Wonder Festival we have his full sculpt! I’m glad they didn’t go with the standing around pose as seen in the first art as the floating is much more dynamic and interesting and also fits the character, as well as the tone of the show, much better. I know I’ll be snatching a Yato up for myself, and I hope lots of others do too so that we can get the rest of the cast and a potential anime season 2! [via Akiba Hobby]

  • Ryuuko Matoi, heroine of Kill la Kill, is quite a popular gal, so much so that it seems she warrants two Real Action Hero figures! Many voiced dislike of the first Senketsu Kamui version, which looked really… odd…, but it seems that Medicom was listening as now we have a Real Action Hero of Ryuuko in her regular outfit. I’ve gotta say, I’m really liking how this came out. The cloth outfit is great and her expression is spot on. I’m personally really happy with this second version and just may have to order her, but what do you think Plastikitties? Does this fulfill all of your wishes and desires? • We recently found out that Union Creative was taking on Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, and they even gave us some teaser pictures. But none were of her face, and that is of course the deciding factor… especially with a company as new and inexperienced as Union Creative. Motoko happens to be at both SDCC and WonFest but there were no decent face shots from SDCC, so I’ve been waiting patiently to show her off. Well, her time has come! And her face looks… surprisingly nice? I’m kind of shocked, it’s very pretty. Let’s see if the paint holds up. [via Akibahobby]

  • Remember the time before Soniko & Pochaco? It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Mostly the best, I’m very tired of writing up Soniko posts. We already saw figures of her from Wing, Good Smile Company, and a figma… but there’s more! Well, only one sculpt: a Kaitendoh swimsuit version. Then we have announcements! Vertex will be doing a swimsuit Pochaco (the one getting toothpaste all over herself, WHY) and a “matching” (??) Soniko. We’ve also got CharaGumin Soniko (running in a swimsuit) and Pochaco (with a chocolate banana… by her butt…) from Volks, and the art for Kaitendoh’s football Pochaco which is the most confusing thing I’ve ever seen. • MegaHouse’s Utena might have been the biggest disappointment of all time (no it’s not an exaggeration YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND MY PAIIIIN), but they are making up for it in droves with their Anthy. The last time we saw her she was already looking stunning, but this new update has blown me away. Not only is the work on her dress crisper, but it seems like she will come with an alternate head with long hair! Oh MegaHouse, I can almost forgive you for Utena. Almost. [via Akibahobby]

  • Do you ever find yourself thinking “there are a shitton of Kantai Collection figures out there, but I need more!” Man, you have come to the right place. Que Q had sculpts for Kirishima, Kitakami Kai, Tenryuu, Tatsuta, Nagato & Mutsu out on display. Still not enough? Well they still haven’t shown off two of their announced girls in the line (Kongou and Akagi), but just in case you want more they announced 4 others: Atago, Kaga, Yukikaze, and Hibiki. Not to mention the Shimakaze already up for order. Don’t like moe boats? Well, they had (some) other stuff–announcements for Nadeko & Tsubasa in Ueda Hajime’s art style, a 3D sculpt for their Amy, Iona, and the surprise announcement of Hoozuki from Hoozuki no Reitetsu. And let’s not forget my personal favorite: the adorable Venera-sama from Sekai Seifuku ~ Bouryaku no Zvezda! [via Dengeki]

  • I still find it impossibly strange that Square-Enix has started producing PVC figures, but picks the most obscure shit as their sources. I mean… Square-Enix has some big titles that they could milk to death on the PVC market. Like.. Final Fantasy… but they don’t! I remember being shocked at the announcement of these three figures, especially since one of them is from the Bravely Default sequel when the first one was so popular but they’re not making figures from it. What. Anyway, we can see that the quality of the painted pieces isn’t that good. Especially Teo from Lord of Vermillion, but Magnolia from Bravely Second isn’t looking that great either. Not enough shading! However, as you can see from the sculpt of Kan’u from Sankokushi Rumble, these pieces really do have potential. It’s a shame. [via Akibahobby]

  • So, we all know how pretty Embrace Japan’s new Diabolus is. But let’s look at her MORE AND MORE. The base. The hair. The wings. The faaace. Guys, I am IN LOVE. I AM LEAVING YOU ALL FOR DIABOLUS. Oh, and that other demon girl they announced? Tibalt? She is here too, all sculpted and so cute! They make an adorable pair, even if they weren’t meant to be a set. I’m gonna make ’em a set, because no figure company bosses me around! Bwahaha. [via moeyo]

  • Well, this is something that completely slipped under my radar. Back in March of last year Kotobukiya announced a model kit of the Gardes from Knights of Sidonia. That meant nothing to most people though as the show wasn’t even a thought yet at that point. Then, in August, before the show even started and had just been announced, it was released. Now, fast forward to almost a year later and the show has already had its first season and the franchise has blown up in popularity, and, given the hints in the series itself (anime screenshot in gallery) of Kotobukiya producing model kits for the anime as well, and it looks like we’re getting an updated release! Scheduled for October of this year, the anime version model kit will be headed out into space to fight some Gauna. The updated version looks much better and is incredibly sleek and appears to be using the exact 3D model from the show. I also adore the setup of the many Gardes in formation that they had on display; Kotobukiya really knows how to set up their displays to look awesome.
