Super Dangan-Ronpa 2: Sayonara Zetsubou Gakuen Archive

  • Here we see the signature almost-white but kind-of-lavender spikey hair, maniacal look and dorky-yet-diabolical pose of the Yu-Gi-Oh antagonist/protagonist, Bakura! Wait, no. That’s not right. Bakura, a figure announced 2 years ago, still even isn’t sculpted! Not that I’m mad about it or anything. This is actually Kotobukiya’s second ArtFX J boy in the Dangan Ronpa line: Nagito Komaeda! It’s certainly better pose-wise than Algernon Project’s, though I think I like the hair on the latter more. But it sure will make a nice pair with their Hinata Hajime. [via IoryHamon’s Twitter]

  • 99% of the time, my decisions about a figure are based on, well, the figure itself. How is the character posed? Is the clothing realistically sculpted? Is her face well done? How are the body proportions? Are the colors cohesive? Will it fit in with the rest of my collection? But sometimes that 1% takes over and I want a figure because of things like floating televisions. YES, floating televisions. Like the ones that come with Phat! Company’s Chiaki from Super Dangan-Ronpa 2: Sayonara Zetsubou Gakuen. There’s also a floating Monomi and an amazing giant Monokuma face base. Chiaki herself is kind of meh (what even is happening with her torso/bust) but do I care? No. Floating television. Pre-orders start on the 27th and I am terrified of what her price will be, but I kind of need this in my life immediately. [via Kahotan]

  • Fans were excited to learn that Kotobukiya would be taking on the boys of Dangan-Ronpa at Wonder Festival, and while it’s only been a few months since the event they’re already on a roll! Hajime Hinata was painted a week ago, and orders have just opened–though note, if you get him through the Kotobukiya store, you get an extra face! And now, already, we are getting the sculpt for Nagito Komaeda! Who, you know, sure does look a lot like Bakura. Who they also have an announced figure of. Where is Bakura?! ;~; Okay, seriously, Nagito looks really awesome. I love the pose! Much more interesting than Algernon Project’s version. [via Kotobukiya’s es blog]

  • Remember when Kotobukiya announced figures from Dangan-Ronpa? You probably should because it was only like a month and a half ago, although it was just art at the time. But apparently this project, which is part of the ArtFX J line, is on the fast track–we are getting not just a sculpt, but a colored one! It’s Hinata Hajime, one of the two characters currently in the works (though I wouldn’t be surprised if we get more, depending on how well the first few sell), and he looks great! Though the art and base style just remind me so much of MegaTen and Persona. Man, I’d kill for a Junpei figure… [via AmiAmi’s Twitter]

  • Kotobukiya’s ArtFX J line so far has been dedicated to reviving older series like Yu-Gi-Oh or Yu Yu Hakusho, but it seems like they are going to be changing it up a bit! That’s right, a (much) newer license has landed in the line: Dangan Ronpa! We’ve got two character announcements, Hinata Hajime and Nagito Komaeda. Finally, some male figures from the series! • Empty is a strange company. They barely make any figures–in fact their last big release was Solange (!!)–but when they do produce something, people tend to notice. Out of the blue they’ve announced a figure from Dangan Ronpa of Nanami Chiaki, a PVC version of a garage kit that won’t even see release until Winter Wonder Festival. It’s a strange situation all around, but I’m sure fans aren’t complaining! I’m a bit behind on the Dangan Ronpa hype, but it’s hard to deny Nanami’s cuteness. I mean… her hair, the outfit, that gorgeous color palette, and she even comes with Monomi! And all for the very reasonable price of ¥8,925 with a July release. [via Amazon JP]

  • Dangan-Ronpa has a lot of fans, and the figure companies seem to be eager to please them. First we had Algernon Project’s Junko, then Monokuma, Monomi and Makoto Nendoroids, and then of course Phat!’s gorgeous sculpt of Kyouko. I honestly didn’t think we would be getting any scaled figures of the boys though, but it turns out I was wrong! Algernon Project will be releasing a figure of Nagito Komaeda, who gives me some serious Bakura vibes. Seriously, the hair! It seems he’ll have at least two display options: hands like you see them in the header, or held out in from of him with, uh, a… wavy dark line? Nice attention to detail, Algernon Project! I can totally make out what that is! On one hand options are nice: on the other, they jack up the price. Hopefully he looks good painted, I found Junko to be a bit of a disappointment. • Dangan Ronpa sure has been getting a lot of love from the figure community! There’s Nendoroids of Monokuma and Monomi, Phat! Company will be making figures of a few of the girls, and of course there’s the crown jewel: Algernon’s scaled Junko Enoshima, sculpted by REFLECT, which they showed off at Winter Wonder Festival. While I’m not a huge fan of REFLECT I think his style matches well with Junko’s willowy form, and I as really looking forward to seeing her painted. And thankfully she looks great! Algernon Project is a very new company that so far has only done… cat donuts. However, given the fact that they are working with REFLECT and Junko’s crazy pricetag (¥12,000 for a 10.5″ figure) it seems safe to say that they are somehow related to the company formerly known as Yamato (aka Arcadia). She’ll be released in December, and expect orders soon! [via Algernon Project]

  • Good Smile Company tends to fast-track Nendoroids they think will be particularly popular, and given how many people are totally freaking out over the (apparent) awesomeoness of Super Dangan-Ronpa it’s no surprise how quickly Monomi has flown to production. She was announced at Wonder Festival, sculpted at ACE, and painted at Miyazawa Model Exhibition. In fact, that might be the single fastest announcement-to-completion I’ve ever seen on a Nendoroid. However, the rush shows. Monomi comes with almost no accessories. She’s got a crying face and a twig. That’s it. All of the cool accessories in Mikatan’s shoot? She borrowed them from other things. The musical notes are part of the ‘Nendoroid More’ line and the rope doesn’t come with her either. Everything else comes with Monokuma. Sigh…. I’d have waited another month if it meant a more complete package. [via Mikatan]

  • Good Smile Company & Co sure do love an excuse to show off their figures. They’re at it again with a handful of Nendoroids on display: none of the sculpts are new, in fact we saw them all at Winter Wonder Festival! Well except for Monomi, who was only art at the time and got a reveal later on. We’ve got two versions of the redone version of Nozomu Itoshiki, who will be manufactured by Gift and comes not just in his regular colors but also in black and white! The ghostly vibe is quite fitting, given how his goal in life is, well, to die. They’re both priced at ¥3,800. Akane Tsunemori from the very popular Psycho Pass is also painted and looking adorable! Check them all out in the gallery. [via GSC_GUMA]
