Super Sonico Archive

Vertex used to make big, ambitious figures. They bust onto the scene with the entry plug Evangelion figures, after all! But recently their “make every figure have huge boobs” hasn’t seemed to be working so well, and production has definitely slowed down. They only had 4 figures on display at Wonder Festival, and two of them (the Shining Blade Sakuya bikini figures) were just color variations!
They also had the weird Christmas Sonico out, along with Mitsumi Gijou from Tokyo Necro. Sadly, still no Noel or the new Selvaria. They did have an announcement for a bikini elf girl with art that looks like Tony Taka except it’s actually Tsurusaki Takahiro. Thrilling.

Like usual, ques Q’s booth at Wonder Festival was like 80% KanColle and Touhou Project. Yet they put out figures from both those series so slowly! It’s a conspiracy to drive us insane, I tell you. At least this year they had some cool KanColle girls who we don’t usually see, like Northern Princess (squee!), Kashima, Ro 5oo, and Naka. And they didn’t announce any more, thank the lord.
On the Touhou front they announced two new Sakuya Izayoi and a new Remilia Scarlet. Two of my faves! Sadly, Love Bomber Sonico is still unpainted, as is Lancer and the Raita bunny girls. They did have quite a few announcements, of course: they’ll be doing Samurai from 7th Dragon in a maid outfit (wut), and Saber from Fate/Grand Order. Pink-haired Saber with a demon tail, I can get behind this.

Ah, Native. They make, like, 6 figures a year and yet announce about 20 at every event. When will the madness end? Not tonight, my friends, because we have 35 figures and announcements from them. You know how they have that sub-company Rocket Boy? Well now they have another one, BINDing, that seems to specialize in bunny girls? I mean they have art from people like Tony Taka, Raita, Oda Non, and more. Including… boy bunnies?!
Then we have their regular figures, like a recolor of the amazing Tony Taka kimono girl, Sonico who is once again unable to operate an ordinary household device, many girls from Raita who had their ribcages removed, some amazingly cute catgirls, a waitress from Pooters (totally different than Hooters), BUT STILL NO CYBERPUNK NURSE. I’m so done with this. Give me nurse or give me death.

It seems like every year Good Smile goes bigger and bigger. We’ve already seen their Fate/Grand Order scales, but they have over 25 others at the event. So let’s just dive right in! A massive amount of the announcements are from Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata: Utaha Kasumigaoka, Eriri Spencer Sawamura, Michiru Hyoudou, and Megumi Katou are all getting swimsuit figures. There will also be a figure of Eriri in the very strange ‘Hot Limit’ line that also includes Uzuki Shimamura (with floating boobs!) and Sonico. Speaking of Sonico, her wedding figure is painted. So disappointed: I wish she was less tacky, because the sculpt is gorgeous.
Moving on, we have Albedo painted, along with the teased Miku Hatsune and Vira. Their Rem from Re:Zero will of course have a matching Ram, and they’ll give us (of course) a second Rem–the birthday cake version. From KanColle there’s Warspite and Shigure, and some other weapon-wielding ladies like Arisa from Shadowverse & Izetta from Shuumatsu no Izetta. Both Mitsuha Miyamizu and Taki Tachibana from Kimi no Na wa will also be getting figures.
Not enough? Well, there’s more! Wilhelmina and Mei Irizaki from High School Fleet, an amazing diorama from Dead Dead Demon’s Dededededestruction, Sayaka & Kyouko, Phosphophyllite from Houseki no Kuni. Damn, that’s a lot of figures!

It’s that time again! Time to look at a few of the garage kits that will be on display and for sale at Wonder Festival. Of course for most of us this is just to drool over, but as always if you are attending the event each picture is labeled with the circle & character name! Also, I am insanely jealous of you.
The trends this year are basically what you would expect. Tons of Re:Zero (and by that I mean tons of Rem & Ram, who cares about the other characters!), idol shows out in force, and quite a bit of Granblue Fantasy. Some old trends seem to be dying (there’s very little of Miku & Sonico compared to previous years). And, surprisingly, Cartoon Network is represented quite a bit. Check them all out in the gallery below, and let us know what you’d like to see as PVC!

Ah, Native, at it again with the feet teasers. I swear, someone on their staff is, like, super into feet. Then again, we had a lot of foot-themed teasers this year! Both GSC and Max Factory got in on that toe action. What a time we live in.
Anyway, Native has shown off their WonFest teasers, and like usual most of them match up with the goodies & art they had on display last year. We clearly have Sonico, as well as the figures designed by Mutsuki Sugamo, Butcha-U, Raita, Tony Taka, and Pyon-Kti. Not any art teasers this year, though–maybe they are slowing down on the whole “announce things 5x faster than we can make them” deal.

We are about a week away from the two big winter events, Toy Fair & Winter Wonder Festival. But before then, a little taste of that event-reveal excitement! Yes, it’s time for ~yet another prize fair.~ I do love prize figures, but I had to cut myself off because man do those boxes add up into a wall really quickly.
This time around, we have of course all the usuals: Dragon Ball Z (I need that Piccolo), Fate/Stay Night, IDOLM@STER, Sword Art Online, Bakemonogatari, Evangelion, Disney, Kantai Collection, et cetera. Everything from cute to creepy (can we stop with the big-head Disney Princesses now?). There are some newcomers on the scene too, like Touhou Project and BLAME! The star for me is that Anzu Futaba in the header: that sculpt does NOT look like a prize figure!

Did you think that Griffon Enterprises had gone the way of the dinosaurs (and Taki Corp)? So did everyone else. It’s been ages since they actually did anything, and many of their in-production figures (like the damn goldfish action figure I had on order for 2 years!!) were simply cancelled or left in limbo. But apparently they were just hibernating, because they’re back with totally new branding!
They showed off two new lines, which really just seems like a way of re-branding their image. The first, Bishojo Tairiku, is their art-based 18+ line (kind of like what Native and AlphaMax does), featuring art by Kizuki Aruchu, Koutaro, Watanabe Yoshihiro, and more! The second, Grand Toys, features more traditional licenses like Cutie Honey, Super Sonico, Highschool DxD, and Silent Möbius. They’ve also revived a few Date A Live and Rozen Maiden figures I thought were long gone! I know Griffon has been a spotty company but they’ve made quite a few very nice figures, so I hope this works out well for them.

So MegaHobby was, like, 3 days ago but apparently it’s totally time for another event to happen! Because all the companies not at MH had to do something with their time. First up is Vertex, aka “how do boobs work because I’ve never seen a human female.” There are so many hilarious boobs on display! From seasonally appropriate boobage (the Valkyrie Chronicles girls, and Santa Sonico–remember when she had a realistic bust?), to cyber boobage (Purple Heart, whose boobs are trying to escape her body), to the traditional gravity-deftying boobage (Fiona from Border Break!).
But there were almost-realistic girls on display too, like Sakuya from Shining Blade. And their announcements, like Noel from Blazblue, are pretty surprising given their usual demographic. Brunhilde from Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria is, however, exactly what I’d expect from them.

Amakuni is moving on up in the world. They used to be a company totally under my radar: they released only a handful of figures a month, tended to focus on fanservice, and only made exclusives. Well, the last two are still true, but they are ramping up their production (and quality!) like woah based on their MegaHobby display.
The star of the show is definitely Anne Takamaki from Persona 5, along with an announcement for Makoto Niijima. I hope this is the first of many announcements for the game! We also have shockingly original duo-figure of Megaman X and Zero, a ton of Kantai Collection (Kashima, Ooyoda, Haruna, Libeccio, and Mutsu), the addition of Yuzuruha to their Muramasa line (along with alternate “wet” versions of Momohime and Kongiku), their cute Sonico which is ruined by the boobs, Orange Heart from the Neptunia franchise, and so much more.
Like Ryoubi from Senran Kagura, a bunny version of Sword & Wizards‘ Fuyuka Yukishiro, the painted Deena Challenger, Cleric from Bikini Warriors, and announcement for Alice Shimada from Girls und Panzer, and the way too perfect Cyan from Show By Rock. I want so many of these figures…
