  • Finally, it has happened. We’ve know about Kotobukiya’s Ikemen line for a while, and in fact Nightwing has been finished for quite some time, but I have been counting down the hours until I got to see him in person. And it was glorious. Just look at that butt! They didn’t even neglect the bulge ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) I am all about equal opportunity sexy figures. Oh, they had more than Nightwing in their DC section, though! A lot, actually. The star for me was the huge ArtFX Wonder Woman who is just… so beautiful. Dead-on likeness for Gal. They also had a ton of ArtFX+ figures, both the Justice League line and the TV show line. And many Bishoujos, of course! Hit the jump to see them all in action.

  • I am not the biggest fan of Supergirl, it’s true. I find her a little bland and, well… like Superman, who is possibly my least-favorite hero. But even I can appreciate how amazingly beautiful Kotobukiya’s second take on her has turned out! This is a figure I wasn’t really sold on until I saw the sculpt, and then we only had badly lit event shots of her, so my hopes were not too high. But hot damn did they pull out a beautiful figure. I think in terms of detail and accuracy, this is probably Kotobukiya’s best Bishoujo yet. I mean, just look at the promo shots of her! Gorgeous. Like basically all of the modern Bishes she is a mere ¥8,500 and will be released in February. Will she be flying into any of your collections? • Usually we don’t get any Bishoujo updates from Kotobukiya at Japanese events, especially when said Bishoujo was just sculpted at SDCC a few weeks ago. But here we are, with a fully painted Bishoujo ver 2 Supergirl out and about at Wonder Festival! Who would have guessed? [via amiami]

  • Just a few months ago we found out that Kotobukiya would be doing a second, updated Bishoujo of Supergirl, spurred on by the success of the tv show. They have redone quite a few girls recently, especially in the Marvel & DC lines, but I really didn’t expect a second version of Supergirl any time soon! And now it’s time for the full sculpt reveal. I think I can safely say that this is the first time I liked the sculpt significantly more than Shunya’s illustration. The art just feels very safe and basic, where the sculpt has more emotion and detail. Instead of standing there kind of blankly she looks determined and strong! [via Kotobukiya JP]

  • It seems like it is a day for old Bishoujos getting an update! First Chun-Li, and now Supergirl. Granted, her first Bishoujo was ages and ages ago, but this is still a bit of a surprise. I’m guessing it’s because of the Supergirl show that seems so popular, right? I wonder if we’ll get any other figures inspired by the booming DC & Marvel cinematic/tv universes. Mera and Gamora would be my wishes! This is definitely a much different vibe from their first cute, flirty Supergirl. Here she looks strong and defiant, and even though her pose is quite basic it reads as powerful. I am a little surprised they kept the belly-baring outfit, though… I’d like to see a bit more updated one. [via Koto’s Facebook]

  • Supergirl, Supergirl~ Kotobukiya always has a lot of surprises for us at Toy Fair, and I definitely wasn’t expecting to see their Supergirl ArtFX+ sculpted already. This line is really moving at… super speed. Okay, I promise I will stop with the terrible jokes now. Probably. So a rough sculpt of Supergirl was out and about, and we got to see some of her display options: she will have both arms at her sides, arms on her hips, and crossed arms (which they did not have at the event). While it’s certainly not a show I am crazy about, the details are still impressive: her skirt seriously looks just like fabric! It’s fun to compare this to their old ArtFX+ of her or even the Bishoujo and see how far they’ve come with those tiny sculpted details.

  • Comic-based TV shows are so popular now that you really have to work hard to avoid them. Between Marvel and DC, it seems like at least 40% of new shows are based around comic franchises. A stark change from 10 years ago, no? So it’s no surprise that Kotobukiya has been hard at work on their DC TV show line! We’ve got Gotham (James Gordon & Oswald Cobblepot), The Flash, and Arrow on display. And one big surprise reveal: they had Supergirl there! The detail they get with 3D sculpting is so amazing I actually though her skirt was real fabric at first glance.

  • Kotobukiya has done a lot of comic toys (that’s something of an understatement, huh?), but so far we’ve been basically restricted to actual comic and movie appearances. With the new wave of comic-based tv shows it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing more and more of them in the figure world, but I definitely didn’t expect one this big from Koto. They’ve announced license acquisition for Gotham, Green Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl. Phew, all 4 at once! No word on what exactly we’ll be getting. ArtFX? ArtFX+? Statues? Bishoujos?! It’s a mystery, but one I’m excited to uncover!

  • We have seen quite a few things from DC’s Toy Fair booth already: the Suicide Squad statues, the Icons action figures, Amanda Conner’s Harley Quinns, the movie action figures, Batman Vs Superman stautes, the Batman the Animated Series line, and most importantly the Bombshells! But you know what all those are missing? Rainbow Batman figures, something we all need of course. And plushies of some of their cutest animal pals, including my favorite: Dex-Starr! Plus much more, which you can check out below.

  • I think only heartless monsters don’t like Batman the Animated Series. Just kidding, I’m sure there are lots of you and you all totally have hearts. But really, it’s just fabulous. I mean, where else do you get Robin in such goofy glasses. Probably a couple places, actually. So I was of course delighted to see a full lineup of TAS action figures at Toy Fair. There’s a pretty huge variety: superheroes, sidekicks, villains. Though I will admit what I really want is Huntress and Black Canary so I can recreate the amazing Birds of Prey moment from The Brave and the Bold.
