Takao Archive

  • At any event they attend, Good Smile Company and their numerous umbrella companies always steal the show. How can they not, with so much firepower? Of course Nendoroids were right at the forefront. Megumin, Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke, lots of KanColle (Hatsuzuki, Kiso, Pola), Caster Extra, Hajime Iwaizumi, and Boba Fett all made an appearance. And of course figmas too! We had Takao, Iowa, and Mumei on display. Max Factory brought their new To LOVEru girl, Yuuki Mikan, and we had FREEing’s bunny Ryuuko Matoi. Last but not least, there’s Phat!’s Parform Hikari Karibuchi and Saber. [UPDATE] Added a few stray figures! [UPDATE 2] Added one last announcement: 22 Niang and 33 Niang from Bilibili! • Alter has always been my favorite figure manufacturer, and while there have been times my heart was swayed by others (Max Factory! AlphaMax! Orchid Seed!), I come back to them time and time again because of their consistent quality and unique sculpts. And once again they brought it in force to MegaHobby with a variety of gorgeous sculpts, painted figures, and new announcements. Of course there were a few from their IDOLM@STER line: their Rin Shibuya (who looks basically identical to the GSC one, let’s be honest) is painted, and they brought out the sculpt for their perfect winged Ranko who I love with all my heart. And the boys were out in force! Rei and Ritsu Sakuma from Ensemble Stars!, Cecil Aijima from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪, Haruka Nanase and Tachibana Mako from Free!, and an announcement for 3 new Free! boys: Sousuke Yamazaki, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rei Ryuugazaki. Plus the brand-new Dio Eraclea from Last Exile. They also had a beautiful 1/6 scale figure of Takao, the cheesy but appealing Santa Saber Alter, Ikumi Mito finally sculpted, Lala Deviluke in a maid outfit, Plachta from the Atelier games, and two new announcements: Hikari Karibuchi from Brave Witches and Okoi from Oboro Muramasa! • I was pretty smitten with Max Factory’s last Kantai Collection figure, Atago (even with her crazy eyes), who is the “sister ship” to Takao. So of course I was expecting to love them both together! Though when we first saw her sculpt, I was instantly pretty skeptical. It just looks so much less intricate! And sadly, my feelings hold true for the painted figure. For some reason, she’s just missing the spark that a lot of this line has. I also think the pose looks very odd and contrived. And of course, the Heavy Armament version is a Wonderful Hobby Selection exclusive (and probably massively expensive, given that the regular figure is ¥13,000). I’ve been much more selective with my figure purchases recently, so when orders open tonight this is an easy pass. What about you guys? [via Kahotan]

  • Summer Wonder Festival is tomorrow, and companies have been unusually quiet about it. We usually get teasers a week in advance, with about 10 companies joining in on the fun. This year? The teasers started today! What gives? Actually I hate teasers (as you probably know) so it’s a little exciting for me. Max Factory made up for the wait with way more teasers than they usually dole out. We’ve got KanColle’s Takao painted and a figma of Kashima, a figma of Mumei from Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, and most importantly a figma of Zelda (only took a million Links to get here!). There’s also a mystery sculpted blob dude, any ideas on what that could be? [via the figma blog]

  • Max Factory has been releasing their Kantai Collection girls kind of slowly given the number they have announced, but so far they’ve been pretty universally gorgeous. I was particularly smitten with their last release, Atago, even with her crazy tsundere eyes. So I was really looking forward to Takao, who is kind of a “set” with Atago. I have to say, based on the sculpt she just doesn’t look as impressive as the rest. The pose looks super uncomfortable and contrived, and what is going on with her boobs? Why is she holding them up? The world may never know. We also have confirmation that she will, of course, have a Heavy Armament version too. [via 2tohei’s Twitter]

  • Recently, ques Q has been ALL ABOUT Kantai Collection. And this year… yeah, no changes. Their booth is like 70% KanColle. So let’s just dive right in. We’ve got figures of Kongou, Haruna, Atago, Ooi, Yukikaze, Kirishima, Nagato, Naka, Takao and more. Then we’ve got announcements for Northern Princess (!!) and Ro 500, along with the previously announced Hibiki. Sadly, Love Bomber Sonico did not make an appearance (though they have art for her out). There’s some Touhou Project (Patchy and FINALLY the evil Remilia), along with announcements like Lancer from Fate/Grand Order. How… how many Fate versions are there? [via AmiAmi’s Blog]

  • Takao is one of those characters who I would really love a figure of, but I haven’t found one that I like. The Phat! Company and Ques Q ones are okay, but I found flaws big enough to not purchase them. I knew Aoshima/Funny Knights were making a version of her, but I didn’t have very high hopes… and for good reason. This is an okay figure. That’s about the best I can say for it. The face is a bit wonky, and there’s very little detail in the sculpt. Which is not a surprise, given that she is 1/4 sale, but they really could have done more. I guess her hair looks nice? She will retail for ¥19,800, which is pretty standard for figures this size, and is slated for a September release. [via Aoshima’s Facebook]

  • We’ve already showed off two figma announcements thus far, Yami Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh! (which WILL also get a Dark Magician Girl figma, thanks for the heads up Germaniac!) and the Magic Knight Rayearth announcement. Just like Nendoroids, most of what the Good Smile Company umbrella seems to bring anymore are smaller cheaper figures they can sell a veritable buttload of, so while Good Smile Company has a handle on all things chibi with Nendoroids, Max Factory is taking care of all of our poseable needs with over 30 new figmas. Up in the header we’ve got the newest Racing Miku design for 2015 that looks like all of the other ones, but with some new gradients and more clear plastic on her, the protagonist from Persona 4, who looks badass as all hell, and Rin Tohsaka from Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works. We’ve also got an announcement of Emiya Shirou, also from Unlimited Blade Works (who in the world actually WANTS this?), Angela Balzac from Expelled From Paradise, new versions of Asuna, Kirito, and Leafa from Sword Art Online II, Haruna and Takao from Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova, Conan from Mirai Shounen Conan, Holmes from Meitantei Holmes (who is awesome), an Iron Man mark XXI (because people totally asked for this…), Kiryuu Kazama from Ryuu ga Gotoku, R. Tanaka Ichirou from Kyuukyoku Choujin R, and Iona from Gekijouban Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova DC. Yeah, lots of characters from things people don’t really know yet again. Then in generic moe girl land, I mean, iDOLM@STER and Love Live land, we’ve got enough tiny girls to keep you happy forever. On the iDOLM@STER side of things we’ve got Rin Shibuya, Uzuki Shimamura, and Mio Honda. Then for Love Live we’ve got nine new figmas: Ayase Eri, Hoshizora Rin, Koizumi Hanayo, Kousaka Honoka, Minami Kotori, Nishikino Maki, Sonada Umi, Toujou Nozomi, and Yazawa Niko. Anyone else think their names sound like sushi rolls? Because I sure do between Umi, Maki, and Nozomi. Like your moe girls with a bit of mechanical doohickeys attached to them? No problem! You’re still covered! Anthropomorphic Ship Girls –I mean– Kantai Collection has some new additions with Kitakami and Yukikaze. More a fan of Anthropomorphic Plane Girls? We’ve got Yoshika and Mio Sakamoto from Strike Witches. Just a fan of robots in general? Tsugumori and the Type 18 Guardian from Knights of Sidonia have you covered. Last, but not least, we’ve got more goofiness as The Thinker and Venus de Milo have popped up again in figma form. Will these ever see the light of day? Who knows! But we’ve got enough to tide us over until their eventual release with a little bit of everything. [via Wonderful Hobby Life For You and Dengeki Hobby]

  • Nowadays we can except two things from ques Q: Kantai and Touhou. Both, of course, were out in force! We’ll start with KanColle because I am so freaking tired of talking about it. Yukikaze, Kongou, Nagato and Haruna were out along with a ton of announcements: Takao, Naka, and Ooi. As for Touhou, we have the Remilia (still not painted, and no updated on Remilia #1 whyy), a new Patchouli Knowledge, Komeji Koishi, and an announcement for her sister Komeji Satori. Of course it can’t all be KanColle and Touhou. Their amazing Amy (see what I did there) from Suisei no Gargantia is her and FANTASTIC. Then we have Labrys, Chino Kafuu, Venera-sama, TWO announced figures of Takao, an original bunny character Usamimizugi, and Hoozuki. Last but not least (in my heart) is the announcement of Sylvia from Rage of Bahamut. [via Akibahobby]

I haven’t been totally wowed by their last few figures, including sideways-Miku and WAY too many KanColle girls for my taste, but they came to play this WonFest and really delivered. My favorite from their lineup is the stunning Tama from Wixoss. Feathers IN HER HAIR. Then there’s everything else! A new bridal LOVEru figure (Haruna Sairenji), the painted Mira Racing Miku sculpt, figFIX of Nagato, Mutsu, Hitagi & Anchovy, an update on their Charlotte Dunois, the sculpt for Fire Emblem’s Tiamo, Ena Hoshijiro, the Tony Taka Len, and paint updates for Yui Yuigahama and Aoi Sakura. How about announcements? We’ve got a ton! First off, there’s no sculpt for the figFIX Sakura Kinomoto, but we have her art–and it’s not an opening dress! They’ll also be doing two new KanColle figures (Atago & Takao), Isuzu Sento from Amagi Brilliant Park, along with the unexpected announcements of Guilty Gear’s Ramlethal Valentine and Touken Ranbu‘s Kogitsunemaru.
