Tales of Symphonia Archive

  • When Alter gets an idea in their head that they like they don’t let it go until it’s good and dead (see: Strike Witches, Hyakka Ryouran, Nanoha), so you can bet that we’ll be seeing every single guy from the Tales of series in figure form. Some of them even from the Kotobukiya collaboration! Today they’ve got two new painted sculpts: Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia and Asbel Lhant from Tales of Graces. I didn’t expect to like either of them but I’m digging Lloyd’s red outfit. Asbel, though… I mean, I like the pose and the outfit but the eyes. Anime city over here, goodness. It’s just too cutesy for me. [via ayuyuyuuuun & anime_yoyaku]

  • Exactly one year ago to the day Alter announced that Lloyd Irving would be joining their Tales of line. Which recently has kind of faded: it seems like less and less time and effort is going into keeping it afloat. But behold, news! Finally! I’ve been kind of “meh” about the line as a whole (except, of course, for Milla) but I have to admit that I am liking what I am seeing here. This is a rough sculpt, but I love how dynamic he looks! Lots of motion, spiky hair, two weapons. I’d say “let’s hope the paint job is good!” but this is Alter we’re talking about, so we all know it will be. [via Abyssal Chronicles]

  • The Tales Of games have recently gained popularity in the figure world due in large part to Alter, but they got their start in the early 2000’s with none other than Kotobukiya! So it was nice at Wonder Festival to see them going back to their roots with the announcement of Colette Brunel. I’ll admit that this is not a franchise I’m invested in at all but Colette is so cute! And I love to see figures of cute young girls that aren’t sexed up at all and are just allowed to be adorable. I think she’d go perfectly with Good Smile’s Lysette! [via Kotobukiya’s Twitter]

  • While Alter’s all-boy Altair line has covered a fair number of franchises, the clear focus has been on the Tales of games. There have been five releases so far: Yuri, Flynn, Luke, Jude, Raven, and now there’s the recently sculpted Zelos Wilder. Oh, and we already know that the seventh will be Lloyd Irving! I’ve never been very enthusiastic about these figures, mainly because I think it’s clear Alter doesn’t put nearly as much effort into them as some of their other lines. Compare them to the Nanoha, Shining World or Strike Witches figures and there’s a huge disparity in terms of posing, sculpting and even shading. But they do have a ton of fans, and slowly but surely they are getting a bit more exciting. Zelos reminds me a bit too much of Luke, but then again I’m not really the target demographic here! So, Tales of fans, what do you think? Did they do a decent job capturing his personality? [via Alter’s Altair Blog]

  • Kotobukiya stuffed us full of so many teasers very few of the figures in this post are going to come as a surprise. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t awesome! Especially Dark Angel Olivia, uhnf. We’ve also got Colette Brunel, Shiki Ryougi, Sumika Kagami, the bunny version of Kasumi Yashiro and Tomo Asama. We’ve shown you the rest already: their ArtFX J line, the Tony Taka reveals, and the Bakemonogatari girls. Of course we have some announcements! It seems they have (at least for the moment) stopped their Angelic Island line and are moving on to the hot new idol property, Love Live! School Idol Project. They’ll be doing swimsuit figures of Umi Sonada, Kotori Minami and Honoka Kousaka who are all pretty cute. Now… for the big announcement: ArtFX J Attack on Titan! Yes, that means BOYS BOYS BOYS YEAAH. Eren Jaegar and Levi, to be more specific. That should help balance out all the Mikasa merch! [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]

  • In the past year or so, Alter has consistently been having less than wow-worthy conventions: perhaps splitting their figures between MegaHobby and WonFest isn’t the best idea, since we only get half as much from them as from other companies. In any case, I’m not that impressed by their Summer 2013 lineup aside from Labrys and Soniko who we already covered. There aren’t a ton of new sculpts: we have Summer Holiday Hayate and child Hayate, who were already announced… and that’s it. Signum, Miu Takanashi and Aty are painted (Aty in particular looks AWESOME). And Zelos Wilder is just kinda hanging out there. Oh, and there are lots of “just announcements.” Natsuki Shinomiya and Shou Kurusu will join their Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ line, there’s a To LoveRU Darkness figure we’re not allowed to see, they’re taking on Akane Isshiki from (yawn), we’re finally getting Tamako Market characters (Anko Kitashirakawa), and… they’ll be doing Shinobu from Nisemonogatari, who seems very popular lately! Some exciting announcements, let’s see if the sculpts hold up. [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]

  • For quite a while now, Alter (or Altair for the boys) have been working their way through the cast members of Tales of Vesperia. They took a little detour through Tales of Xillia for Milla and Jude, but got back on track for Raven and Estelle. Which, I was hoping, meant Judith was in my future since she was pretty much the only cast member left untouched. Well, it seems the odds are not in my favor tonight, because at the Tales Of Festival they announced that they are moving on to Tales of Symphonia! They have two announced figures: Zelos Wilder, who is sculpted, and Lloyd Irving, who is not. I have never been a huge fan of the Tales of designs and these two are not an exception: I find Zelos charming but the sculpt doesn’t scream “must have” and to be frank Lloyd is just downright dull. But it’s good news for fans… unless, of course, you’re a fan of Judith. Then it’s just the worst news ever. [via Viva Tales Of]

  • This week had a ton of really great releases, more than we usually see in such a short period of time! Some really big-deal figures that have been hyped for a while were finally released, right in time for the companies to unveil a whole new batch for Wonder Festival. Well, that’s great news for collectors–knowing that we won’t have to wait another 6 months for figures is always a bonus! We had a lot of game-related figures this week, with offerings from several big series like the Tales Of franchise, Metroid, and Persona. Of course there were also Beach Queens, figmas, swimsuit girls, and the usual NSFW offerings, but surprisingly no Nendoroids! Hit the jump to check it all out.
