Tamashii Nations 2011 Archive

  • Tamashii Nation, the event where Bandai shows off just how many figures they can make in a year, was held earlier this week. We brought you coverage of several pieces that were there: D-Arts Konohana Sakuya & Thanatos, the Chibi-Arts line, the Armor Girl Project, and Figuarts Zero from Code Geass and Macross Frontier. But of course there was more on display–a lot more! Bandai showed off goods from all the shows you would expect: One Piece, Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, Bleach, Ruroni Kenshin, Dragonball Z. But there were also some surprise additions to the Figuarts Zero line like the heroine from Rine no Lagrange and two of the girls from Senran Kagura. Check them all out in the gallery! • I’ll be honest–Bandai’s Chibi-Arts line seems like a very blatant ripoff of Nendoroids to me. Same proportions, swappable faces, etc. I never thought I’d want to own one, but of course the day has inevitably come that Bandai has shown off some characters that I just have to own! First and foremost is an adorable chibi C.C from Code Geass, who comes with pizza and a cat! Amazing! They better include Mr. Cheese. A lot of other new goodies were shown off, like several girls from the Pretty Cure series, Aquarion Evol, Neito Mitotsudaira and Horizon Airadust from Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon, Aiba Ruri from Sacred Seven, and Haruko from FLCL! Man, FLCL figures, it’s been a while since we’ve seen them. Of course there were lots of One Piece Chibi-Arts, since most of the line is from that show. Several were new, like Vivi Nefertari, Sanji, and Nico Robin. I have to admit, the line seems to be really improving in terms of quality and they do a nice range of characters. Now if only they made the faceplates interchangeable with different figures! [via Hobbystock]

  • Bandai has been working on their Armor Girl Project for a while, bringing us cute girls in mech suits. So far it’s been limited to the Haruhi cast, with Haruhi herself, Yuki and Mikuru making appearances. There was a 4th addition to the line at Tamashii Nations, and a rather creepy one: Kyon’s little sister. Now, I have nothing against lolis–I own quite a few loli-figures. But Kyon’s sister is just… you know, actually supposed to be very young, so having her in a hot pink, skin-tight bunny suit rubs me the wrong way. She’s a child, for god’s sake! Anyway, let’s get on to the stuff that doesn’t bother me! First off, Cecilia Alcott from Infinite Stratos was shown off in her mecha suit, and the other 4 girls were announced as well. That’s right, Bandai is doing the entire IS cast! Fans should be thrilled, because I know a lot of people who really really wanted all the girls in full mech gear. Last, and most importantly (for me) is the Gundam Girls! There was an artbook featuring girl/Gundam mashups a while back, and finally we’re getting some figures from it. There’s a female Wing Gundam, which is featured in the header, and RX-78GP3 Dendrobium, who is packing some serious heat. Both of these look great, and I think this is going to be a great line overall! [via Hobbystock]

  • Macross Frontier has some awesome costumes, and companies just love making figures of them. Sadly, they’re usually Ichiban Kuji, but finally we’re getting some nice, widely available figures of the girls! At Tamashii Nations we got two Sheryl Nomes (one in her iconic Black Bunny outfit) and one adorable Ranka. These look quite intricate for their price-point, and I am definitely looking forward to finally owning some Macross figures. [via AmiAmi]

  • Code Geass ended a while ago, but it still has a pretty strong presence in the figure-world. Once every few months, new figures pop up, and we got some Christmas-themed ones at Tamashii Nations! Kallen and C.C are decked out in holiday gear, thought I doubt they’ll arrive in time to stuff your stocking. They’re part of the Figuarts Zero line, which means they should be quite cheap and the quality on this line is quite nice so they’ll end up being quite the bargain! [via AmiAmi]

  • Hey Japan, thanks so much for having an event on Thanksgiving. You must know how much I love to write about figures on holidays! In between basting the turkey, I get to go “oh shit, look at all this cool stuff!” And as much as it pains me to work on a holiday, some of the things on display at Tamashii Nations was just too awesome to not post. Like Bandai’s D-Arts Persona line: Thanatos, who was teased previously, was shown off, and a new one was announced: Yukikio’s first Persona, Konohana Sakuya! This is actually my favorite of all of the Personas, and Thanatos is my second, so this is a pretty awesome day! Mostly because of the food, but the figures are nice too. [via AmiAmi]
