The first few weeks of the new year are not very exciting for figure collectors. Almost all figure companies go on vacation until the 4th, and when they come back they’re not exactly at the top of their game. Releases come out at a trickle, and they tend to save the big figures for later in the month when we’ve all recovered from the holiday rush.
But of course that doesn’t mean we have nothing for you this week! We’ve got a decent lineup of figures, ranging from very big to very small. Girls with swords, guys with guns, Vocaloids with headphones, we’ve got ‘em all! Check them out after the jump.

Dengeki’s 20th Anniversary Festival takes place on the 20th, and they have a whole ton of exclusives lined up for it like the Taiga & Mikoto Beach Queens. They had these and more on display at Aki no Saiten, including the rest of the exclusives shown off in magazine scans. Aside from the Mikoto Beach Queen, these are all recolors of past exclusive figures, including the lovely China Dress Taiga and Kotobukiya’s froggy swimsuit Mikoto. That’s right, all of these exclusives are of Taiga and Mikoto!
Since these are all event exclusives, you’ll have to contact a proxy who attends events if you want one! Tokyo Hunter and Big In Japan are your best bets, otherwise you’ll have to hunt down these cuties on the after-market. Given how expensive the first colorways of most of these are, I cringe to think at what the prices of these recolors will be!

We found out in August’s magazine scans that the Dengeki 20th Anniversary Festival would have a whole ton of exclusives of two popular anime heroines: Mikoto Misaka and Taiga Aisaka. While most of them are recolors, we are getting a brand-new sculpt for the Beach Queen of Mikoto. I think the work here is pretty darn good for such a small figure, and she looks fantastic! Of course she’s an event exclusive, so her ¥3,800 retail is definitely not what you’re going to be paying if you really really want her. Unless, of course, you live in Japan! In which case you can just pick me up one.
Then we’ve got the Taiga, who is a recolor/resculpt of a previous Beach Queen. She comes with two faces (tsun and dere) and probably the weirdest extra feature I’ve seen on a BQ. She comes with… two sets of boobs. No, I’m not joking. There’s her usual flat chest, and then some fake ones that apparently have something to do with the episode but still, mega weird. She’s the same price as Mikoto and will also be available at the event.

Toy’s Works’ Niitengo line takes popular anime characters and chibifies them into painfully adorable creations. Their sets are usually a bit pricey, but this exclusive mega-set takes the cake. The Heroine Blitz Figure Collection is a set of 20 popular anime heroines, including characters like Kino, Shana, Osaka, Kirino, Taiga, Holo, Henrietta, and a whole lot more! We only have art now, but they are all looking pretty fantastic. And at ¥12,000 for the lot, they better look good! The bad news (yes, the price wasn’t the bad news): this is an exclusive, so you’ll have to pay proxy fees as well. And to top it off, they won’t be released until March of 2013!

Another month, another delicious batch of magazine scans! This month is particularly juicy, with lots of new announcements and a surprising amount of sexy boy figures. Two brand-new ones! There are also Nendos and figmas of course, some NSFW and risque stuff from surprising companies, more Queen’s Blade and Hyakka Ryouran, and a few throwbacks to older animes. So hit the jump to check it all out!

MegaHobby Expo is right around the corner, so it’s high time for some wonderful teasers! It seems like Alter will have a new addition to their Altair line at the event, and fully painted to boot! I’ve been so-so on the line so far but this character I can really get behind: it’s Accelerator from To Aru Majutsu no Index! There’s only a small teaser of him, but it looks great–and we better get an alternate axe-crazy face!

Remember all those awesome figures from the 25th Prize Fair? Well Taito has already put up a slew of figures, but now it’s Sega’s turn. They had tons of titles represented, including The World God Only Knows, Evangelion, Vocaloid, Lucky Star, Bakemonogatari, and several from the To Aru series. It doesn’t take long for prize figures to hit the stores, and it looks like they’ve already started.
AmiAmi has listed a bunch of sets and individual figures here. There’s good news and bad news, though. The bad news is they don’t have either of the Miku figures up, which seem to be the most-wanted, and some sets are already marked as temporary sold out! The good news? Well, AmiAmi will be restocking all of these so you will get a second chance, and there are at least 4 other stores that will put these up. We’ll be updating this post periodically so you know when stores have these goodies up, so keep your eyes open! And while you wait, check out the sample pictures from GA Graphic in the gallery, as well as the concept art for the Lucky Star set.
[UPDATE] AmiAmi has put up FuRyu’s Lily for order, and she’s set for a February release. On a less positive note, it seems like they have also taken down all of the Sega figures. No word on why, but not all of them were sold out so perhaps they are planning on re-listing them.
HLJ has listed several of the Sega prizes though, including several sets that sold out at AmiAmi and also the last of their Strike Witches figures–Gertrude!
[UPDATE 2] We have several new updates today! First off, Big In Japan has put up figures from Taito, FuRyu and Sega. Otacute has also put up a huge selection of figures, including the MegaTen FuRyu prizes that sold out in seconds at AmiAmi! And for European buyers, Archonia has listed quite a few as well (thanks to PM_Sakura_Kyoko for the tip!).
So almost all of the stores that carry prize figures have them listed, aside from Hobby Search and the rather overpriced US ones. If you want some, the selection and pricing is pretty great, so go get ‘em!

This week had a lot of big figure events in Japan–first Volks’ Hobby Round 6, and now Dengeki’s special autumn event! There was a huge mix of figures here, but Good Smile Company and their umbrella companies seemed to take center stage, showing off a ton of merchandise. There were Madoka figmas, including the newly-sculpted Kyoko, the Ika Musume figma, the Menma petit Nendoroid, OreImo‘s Ayase Nendoroid, the ClariS set, Phat! Company’s Ran, Strike Witches Nendoroids and figmas, GSC’s stunning Makise, the LovePlus girls, Love Is War Miku, and several figures that we haven’t seen since Wonder Festival! The Miku Hatsune designed by OreImo‘s illustrator was there, as well as Phat! Company’s previously missing in action 1/8 Totori.
There were several other companies there as well, and the mix of figures was quite odd. Nendoroids next to Griffon’s scaled Ryoko, random Sega prizes, Pettankos sitting with trading figures, Beach Queens next to Altair’s figures. Almost all of these were older goods, but sneaking in was Alter’s Celty from Durarara and this is the first time we are seeing her painted! So check out all of these and more in the gallery!

Welcome to another week of “things that take all of your money!” This week was pretty decent as far as the number of figures goes, though there are some real… doozies in there, like the Daiki Cattleya and some of Q-six’s baffling offerings. But with the bad comes the good, and there were indeed some very lovely figures this week, like Good Smile Company’s Homura and a delicious pair of exclusives. So hit the jump and let’s get started!

Prize figures are a wonderful thing. For $10 to $15, you can get a very decently made figure. It’s a great option for people who either can’t afford scaled figures or who don’t feel like dropping a ton of cash on them, and they often make prize figures of characters that never get “real” figures!
This summer’s prize fair contained a flood of, surprise surprise, cute anime girls! We have the heroines from Evangelion, OreImo, Bakemonogatari, K-On!, To Aru Majutsu No Index, Lucky Star, and more! My favorites of the bunch are probably the adorable maid version of Kirino and Kuroneko, and the surprise appearance of a Misato! She’s severely underrepresented among the flood of Asuka, Rei, and even Mari figures, so it’s great to see a new version of her!
These should all be going up for order soon, so hit the jump to check out these cuties! If I had to guess which ones would be most popular, I’d guess the Miku Hatsune ones which are based off of garage kits, but what do you think?
