  • I always have very strong opinions about Alter’s event displays. Usually their Wonder Festival lineups disappoint me, because they save all the good stuff for MegaHobby. But not in 2018! We have a really killer batch of figures from my favorite manufacturer. Many of them are what you’d expect: we have quite a few Fate/Stay Night figures (including the gorgeous header Saber, a reclining Mash Kyrielight, the sculpt for Edmond Dantes, and their absolutely epic Jeanne d’Arc Alter), finally the painted Okoi, an IDOLM@STER announcement (Asuka Ninomiya), and two To LOVEru cuties (Haruna once again and a lingerie Momo). But of course there were surprises as well! Like the elaborate bunnygirl version of Narberal Gamma from Overlord II, and some from-left-field announcements like Vampire from Azur Lane and Teletha Testarossa from Full Metal Panic! I know some people have been waiting a LONG time for Panic figures. Check out all of them and more after the jump! [via figsoku]

  • As a company, MegaHouse absolutely bamboozles me. On one hand we have their cute, nostalgic, simple-but-well-made lines like their amazing Digimon and Pokemon figures, which were both out and about at MegaHobby. Then they bust out the occasional magnificent sculpt, like our header girl: Airi from Queen’s Blade! I cannot explain my excitement when I saw her: I always wanted a great Airi figure but assumed that time had come & gone long ago. But no, MegaHouse to the rescue! Then we have the other half of their line: the painfully tacky and often out-of-character girls, especially from beloved shows like Naruto and Dragonball Z. They’ve butchered so many of my faves. Just look at that Hinata. It hurts my soul. And I remember C.C in a lot more clothing, don’t you? The One Piece girls obviously fall into this category: the anatomy has gotten so bad that I kind of think it’s some big elaborate joke. The sculpting for this “side” of them is often simple to a fault and looks like it could have been from 8 years ago. Put Airi, the new Digimon boys, and that awful stripper pole Nami together: do they look like the same company? What is going on with MegaHouse?!?! [via moeyo]

  • Ah, MegaHobby Expo, Wonder Festival’s little brother. Years ago the two rivaled each other in scale, but as time has passed MegaHobby has gotten smaller and smaller. Fewer companies, fewer figures. But there are always a few gems to be found! We’ll start the coverage with Alter, one of my favorite companies (though as you may know, they have recently fallen out of the “affordable” bracket and into the “look longingly from a distance” bracket for me). They had quite a few cuties out on display, including many updates to their Wonder Festival sculpts. Jeanne d’Arc definitely stole the show for me! The only brand-new reveal was Arie Nadja from Madou Monogatari who is so adorably retro it hurts. [via moeyo]

  • Pulchra is a company with great ideas but usually not-so-great execution. Aside from the header girl Marie Antoinette, who we already saw at Fate/History, none of their sculpts really stand out to me. Except for Isuzu Sento, but that is… not in a good way. What is happening with her chest. They actually remind me a lot of Griffon, especially with their penchant to put up cards with the sculpt on them instead of, you know, just bringing the figure. They had a LOT of announcements this year. Rosehip from Girls und Panzer, Tooka Yatogami & Yoshino & Kurumi Tokisake & Origami Tobiichi from Date A Live, lots of To LOVEru girls, Ryoubi from Senran Kagura, and a reclining Emilia from Re;Zero. • FREEing: home of the bunny girl, land of the yukata. Guess what they had this year? So so many bunny girls, and two yukata… boys? It’s Shinji and Kaoru! Plus the FREE boys are here, so really they’re kind of boy-crazy. But don’t worry, we have like 50 announcements that are all girls all the time. In 1/4 scale we will be getting: Asmodeus & Lucifer from Seven Deadly Sins, Reimu, Lala & Nana & Haruna, Mea from To LOVEru, Purple Heart & Black Heart, Belldandy (!!), Reika from Gantz, Shiro from No Game No Life (both 1/4 and 1/12 scale because why not), Shimakaze, and Sumire Kanzaki from Sakura Wars. I’m excited to see them in 3 years when they finally get sculpted. [via amiami]

  • As you would expect from ques Q, the majority of their figures at Wonder Festival were from either Kantai Collection or Touhou Project. Boy, they just love those franchises! And their Kashima & Ro 500 were finally painted. Ro is so cute! Of course they had some other announcements, like Lala from To LOVEru as… Marilyn Monroe? Hmm. Curious. Rocket Sonico is sadly not painted, but at least they brought her! The Maid ver Samurai looks amazing, I love the skele-robot fish. They also will be doing Sagiri Izumi and Elf Yamada from Eromanga Sensei & Erika Itsumi and Clara from Girls und Panzer. [via Dengeki]

  • MegaHouse is absolutely the most consistent manufacturer at any event. You can guess before seeing anything what 90% of their figures will be. We’ve got One Piece, Digimon, Pokemon, Gintama, Naruto, Tiger & Bunny, Kuroko no Basket. Of course they always throw us a few curveballs (no Dragon Ball Z?!) and at least one pleasant surprise. This time around it’s C.C from Code Geass! Of course her dress is coming off because recently MH has been incapable of making a female character who isn’t halfway disrobed or busting out of her top. Android 18, Chi Chi, now C.C…. sigh….. she’s sexy enough already! [via girlshobby]

  • Ah, Flare: they make your faves but never paint them, and when they do, they’re insanely expensive. Can you tell I have a love/hate relationship with them? They seem to be moving at a solid pace with some of the announcements from last WonFest, though: Saber Bride and Gwendolyn are both painted, and we have a Nier update. Sadly, no news on Asuka or Blindi, but we do have some new figures: Golden Darkness, a new Elin, and Odin Sphere minis! [via amiami & pederisan]

  • Ah, Alter. Every year they get me so good! And it’s always with girls (or boys, from the Altair line) from franchises that I otherwise wouldn’t care about. Am I super obsessed with their Love Live and IM@S girls? Yes. Would I willingly watch either of those shows? No. I just love frilly dresses so very much. This year they have a great lineup. Shiki Ichinose from Cinderella Girls is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in my life, but the Love Live girls are also looking strong with a gorgeous Riko Sakurauchi. We have many, many FREE! boys and some other Altair announcements: Fate/Grand Order dudes! Merlin, Arthur Pendragon, and Edmon Dantes will all be getting scales. If you like the ladies, Alter will be doing Shielder too. They seem to be getting back to Strike Witches, which is nice, and we also have a surprise Chachamaru and Asuna. Check them all out below! • Max Factory is one of my favorite companies, but they’re certainly not a super productive one. They only had a few scaled figures on hand at WonFest, but they were lovely! Like that bike racing Miku: so cute! There’s also a Luka figure if you’re all Miku’d out. Wedding Lingerie Lala is finally here, and Murakumo from KanColle is painted. We also have 3 Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata announcements (so many from them and GSC!): Utaha, Eriri, and Megumi. Oh, and there’s a surprise Devilman outta nowhere. A large portion of their display is dedicated to the small figures, like their Love Live figFIX and the model kit Plamax (Dirty Pair!). Plus we had all those Fate/Grand Order figures from earlier. [UPDATE] We have a picture of their Iowa! [via whl4u]
