  • When I first found out about Monster Musume I let out a heavy sigh. I assumed, like many, that it would be the next KanColle and we’d have endless monster girls at every Wonder Festival. But so far… nothing. It kind of flopped. So imagine my surprise when I saw a sculpt from it at Wonder Festival! And from Di molto bene of all companies–they specialize in boys, as you can see in the gallery. It’s all boys. And the sexy lamia lady. Weird. Okay, let’s talk about the boys! We have to figures of Ken Kaneki, a bear samurai (!!), lots and lots of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Gakkou Gurashi!, Daiya no Ace, and so much more. Check them out below! [via amiami]

  • You would think that with the rise of male figures, we’d be getting more and more dynamic and interesting takes on them. But sadly, that’s not the case: for the most part, guy figures are still just kind of standing around. I mean, it’s high-quality standing-around, but nothing much is happening there. Except, of course, for Kotobukiya, who has been making dynamic male figures for quite some time. So of course we were all excited for their take on Tokyo Ghoul‘s Ken Kaneki! While the show was pretty popular it didn’t receive a ton of figure attention. Thankfully, the few options we do have are pretty awesome, especially the ArtFX J Awakened Version which we’ll be taking a look at today.

  • We’ve seen a lot from Kotobukiya this NYCC: DC, Marvel, Star Wars, some new announcements and a whole lot of up-close galleries. But Kotobukiya is primarily a PVC manufacturing company, so there were a lot of anime & manga related girls and guys on display as well! Their Hestia was obviously there (though without her alternate face), along with Ken Kaneki, the Black Butler line, the video game Bishoujos, Trigun, Halo, Alien… and their new Saber. I have to say, in press photos she really didn’t impress me (another standing Saber!) but in person? True love. The sculpt is so crisp, and I’m really tempted to place an order now.

  • Medicos doesn’t really have too many figures out there on the market yet with the only notable figure being their Shinichi from Parasyte, but now it seems they’ve gotten their hands on quite a few more licenses. First up is Tokyo Ghoul, which seems to be getting two poseable figures in the same vein as the Parasyte one. I’m not really a fan of the hyper-realistic style, but these do at least look interesting. Then we’ve got a bunch of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure merch with some busts and poseable figures, which continues their seemingly never-ending line. There’s also Ichirohiko from Bakemono no Ko who comes with two display options and two figures from Ace of Diamond: Kazuya Miyuki and some other generic guy that’s batting that I can’t tell who they are because there’s too many damn characters since it’s a sports anime and manga. That’s not all though, there’s two poseable figures from Ajin of some cool looking demon-monsters, one of the guys from Touken Ranbu, figures from a new series called Drifters, two scaled guys from Bakumatsu Rock and last, but not least, Yuki Takeya from Gakkou Gurashi!, possibly the biggest surprise of the newest anime season, and definitely what I’m excited about most from here. • Of course our main focus for Kotobukiya was on all the Bishoujos they brought to SDCC, but they had more than that! A lot more. Given that it’s San Diego COMIC Con, there were (of coure), a lot of comic goodies, including the impressive Hulk vs Hulkbuster statue that we first saw at Toy Fair. They also had statues ranging from Arkham Knight, Batman, Black Panther, and Iron Man to their newest ArtFX+ line which focuses on the villains. First up is a rather crazy-looking Lex Luthor. As opposed to non-crazy Lex? Haha. There was also a handful of non-comic-based merch. Their popular franchises like Halo and Alien popped up, along with a few anime lines like Aldnoah.Zero and Tokyo Ghoul. Check them out and more in the gallery! [Thanks to the amazing Anne Mortensen-Agnew for providing us with these images! <3]

  • Are you sensing the theme of this Miyazawa Model Exhibition? It’s Check Out This Stuff You’ve Already Seen. Because seriously, Kotobukiya’s lineup is almost identical to what we saw at Anime Japan… and most of that wasn’t even new. I was hoping we’d get a peek at Hestia‘s sculpt, but alas, it’s just super cute (but redundant) IDOLM@STER and KanColle girls. Honestly, I feel like that’s the joke at every booth. “Look, IM@S and KanColle!” There is, at least, a pretty cute CuPoche display… I mean, the raincoats. So adorable! [via Akibahobby]

  • Kotobukiya seems to bring a huge booth out wherever they go, so of course Anime Japan was no exception! Of course the star of the show has to be their new IDOLM@STER girl Kanaki Mimura, just on the virtue of this being her first time out on display. And Anzu was there with her too, of course! The newly painted Ken made an appearance, along with another boy: Grell! Then there’s Kantai Collection, of course. Inazuma and Ikazuchi were there both in scaled and Cu-Poche form. Check them out in the gallery! [via Dengeki]

  • It seems like 2015 is going to be a pretty fantastic year for male figures. All of a sudden, everyone’s making them! But this isn’t new territory for Kotobukiya, whose ArtFX J line has been pumping out male figures from classic anime and manga for years. But they are branching out a bit to include newer characters, including the amazing sculpt for Ken Kaneki! I thought we’d have to wait until another event to see him painted, but apparently the work is all done and he should be going up for pre-order very soon. I love the ghoulish look of this figure, so deliciously creepy. But what about you Tokyo Ghoul fans? Does this hit all the right notes for you? [via the Tokyo Ghoul Twitter]

  • So far we’ve already shown you quite a bit of what Kotobukiya has at their Toy Fair booth: Hulk vs Hulkbuster, new Bishoujos, the Star Wars line, and their new Super Power figures. But of course a booth as big as theirs has a lot more in it! Like a new Iron Man ArtFX and tons of Halo merchandise. They even brought a bunch of PVC figures, which is not something we’re used to nowadays. I mean, they even had a Wonder Festival prototype out and about: Ken Kaneki! Along with lots of the Cu-Poche line, chopsticks for every shade of samurai, and tons more. Check them all out after the jump!

  • Kotobukiya already showed us a whole lot in teasers, and surprise… it’s all here! The Bishoujos got their own post but here we’ve got everything promised. Ken Kaneki, Miho, Asseylum Vers Allusia, Anzu Futaba! Also, Yukari Akiyama, and the new KanColle girl Inazuma who comes with a surprise friend Ikazuchi. Of course, there’s new stuff as well! Like yet another Saber, yay. Can you feel my enthusiasm? On the happier side they’ll be doing another Bahamut figure: Little Princess Vania! We also have a surprise Durarara announcement which is definitely a mystery at this point, along with announcements for figures of Shinobu Oshino and Ouji Oshino. Then there’s the Shining girls: Excela Noa Aura is fully sculpted and they’ll be making the witch Rinna Mayfield. [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]
