@GeekeryDo: @mikeyturvey I agree with you. I stopped reading them because I got tired of it, though @Sir_Narwhal is correct that it's normal for comics.

@GeekeryDo: @Sir_Narwhal @mikeyturvey yeh but that's just one arc and it's easy to read it all since, as you said, it's been put together like that.

@NFern0: @Sir_Narwhal Sounds like (ohoho) specialist equipment. Black Friday is more mass consumer oriented isn't it?

Oh Seraphim Mode Sakuya, let me count the ways I love you. Your long brown hair, your corset top, your angelic wings, the abundant gratuitous use of clear PVC, your wondrous bow, your frills, feathers on the base even though you don’t have feathers in your wings… wait, does your bow have wing feathers? How does that even work?
I don’t even care because I’ve loved you for so long, Seraphim Sakuya. You look even better than the painted teaser. Your only flaw is that you’re not in my house right now.

For a lot of collectors, it probably seems like AlphaMax has come out of nowhere recently with all these good figures. Being a Tamaki fan, I’ve actually been buying their figures since I first started collecting, but it’s still a surprise to see them holding their own with the big boys. I mean, at this point… they’re right up with Native! And considering some of the duds Native’s been dropping, they might even be beating them on the NSFW front (especially when you take into account affordability and how easy they are to get).
Like Native (and Kotobukiya, and Max Factory, and Alter…) they have an obsession with all things Tony Taka. Which means we’re finally seeing some of his doujin art being brought to life! Yae here was art just a few months ago, and then sculpted, and now… she’s painted and ready for orders! Honestly I don’t like her as much as some of their others because of the awkward right leg. It looks okay in art where you don’t see it extended, but the side view is just super awkward! I like when their figures are more like Maya, and look good from 360 degrees. But Yue is 1/6, only ¥10,800, and comes out in May… so I’ll probably get her anyway. Have you seen the aftermarket prices on this stuff?!

Kotobukiya’s Seraphim Mode Sakuya has been on my lust list for a long time. I know some people may be tired of her: after all, Kotobukiya has now given us four versions of Tony Taka’s brunette sweetheart! This one, the original, Cerulean Mode, and Crimson Mode. Then of course, there’s Yamato/Arcadia’s take on the character, and the upcoming AlphaMax figure.
But in my mind, none of them really come close to this beauty. Her sculpt is absolutely astonishing, and I was blown away by it. I’ve always loved Koto, but recently they’ve gone from being a good, solid company to jumping to the ranks of Good Smile, Alter and Max Factory. If Olivia and Seraphim Sakuya come out anywhere close to their promo shots, I don’t think anyone will be questioning their validity as a top-tier producer anymore.

There are few combinations I love more in life than Tony Taka, elf ears, and headwings. Elwing is one of my all-time favorite characters for those reasons alone (though her adorable face, sweet personality, and awesome outfit also help). So I was excited to find out that Shining Ark has a similar character, with one major addition: TWINTAILS. Thank you based Tony Taka.
I was cautiously optimistic about Griffon’s sculpt for Shannon, but of course they’ve crushed my dreams, stepped on them, put them in a box, mailed the box to themselves, and smashed it with a hammer. She looks so flat and lifeless. Where’s the shading, the spark of life?! This looks like a figure from 2008. For shame, Griffon, FOR SHAME.

Remember a while back when AlphaMax showed off a ton of new art and figures? Well, we’ve got updates on quite a few of them… and some new stuff, too! Since AlphaMax, like Wave, seems unable to just announce one figure at a time. That would just be too simple. First off, the Tony Taka updates: Viola from Shining Ark is sculpted (and gorgeous!), and the ecchi but not totally NSFW art of his has been fully sculpted AND painted!
Then there’s the Kizuki Aruchu art, which is definitely not safe for work, and has also been sculpted. Bet you saw that one coming! Continuing on the “don’t show these figures to your in-laws” train we’ve got art (and a sculpt) for Kotone Kamishiro from Oyakorankan.
[UPDATE] Art for Maria Satome from Sex Life added from Akibahobby

It’s been a long time since we had a messy batch of scans. In fact I’d almost forgotten what it was like to get terrible cellphone shots with half the page bent inward instead of the usual neat, flat scans–which of course means it’s the perfect time for it to happen again! Seriously, these scans suck. Also there are like… no good figures in them. We’ve got Kotobukiya’s Leafa, who we’ve seen, Belphegor who is another sculpt we’ve seen…, and AlphaMax’s Viola. That’s pretty much it for the excitement quota.
But of course there are other figures! FREEing has their Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru! line painted, and Amakuni’s Aisha is getting a repaint. There are tons of Yamato ladies from MegaHouse and they’ve added Takane as their next IDOLM@STER girl, and there’s the Charles D’Artagnan from Queen’s Gate who is so horribly tacky I want to cry. MegaHouse also showed off their Amy, and we’ve got figma Chihaya and two new Ultraseven/Ultraman figures from Plex: Metron Seijin and Zetton.
We’ve also got some pretty big news from Griffon: they’ll be working on a large chunk of the cast from Rozen Maiden! Shinku, Hina Ichigo, Suigintou, Kanaria, Suiseseki, Souseiseki, and Kirakishou will ALL be getting figures. I feel like they’ve found something to replace the Touhou line…

There are a lot of people who see a new Tony Taka figure, sigh, shake their heads, and mutter “oh god not this again. Don’t we have enough figures from his artwork?” I am not one of those people. In fact, you could probably base the entire figure industry on nothing but Tony Taka art and I’d be happy. Seriously, I just really like Tony Taka. And, of course, Kotobukiya, who is by far the most prolific producer of figures based on his art!
I kind of thought we’d never see a non-exclusive version of Aerie since Shining Hearts was 3 Shining World games ago, so I’ve been bubbling over with excitement since her sculpt reveal. We got a look at her colored at Hobby Show, but now we’re getting into the gritty details with this gallery! And, you know, panty shots. Because it’s Japan.

It’s been a long time since Kotobukiya released their figure of Nellis (review), one of the three “bread sisters” from Shining Hearts. I mean, two more Shining World games have come out! And since then the sisters haven’t had a ton of attention, yet it seems like everyone wants a full set of the trio!
Now, years after the game’s release, we’re seeing progress from several companies: Volks is doing all 3, there’s going to be the swimsuit set (which Koto will be working on for the sisters), and of course as we saw at WonFest Kotobukiya will also be working on at least one more scaled figure: Aerie (or Airy, if you prefer). Because who doesn’t love nuns in miniskirts? Her sculpt was simple but adorable and I think the paint does it justice, but what I really want is a figure of Amil that isn’t exclusive!

Tony Taka tends to hang on to design elements he likes, reusing them in future games. For example, color palettes he really loves will pop up on a new character. But one girl has taken it to a totally crazy level: she first appeared as Maxima in Shining Hearts, then as Sakuya in Shining Blade, and now as Viola in Shining Ark!
We found out at WonFest that Kotobukiya would be taking her on once again, this time in her angelic outfit which I absolutely adore. There are a lot of lovely figures of Maxima/Sakuya/Viola, like Koto’s Crimson version, but this easily tops them. I mean… the dress! The bow! THE WINGS.

If you follow me or Stephen on any of our social profiles you’ve probably noticed that we have a heck of a lot going on in our personal lives at the moment. Enough that we’ve had to make some changes around the site–you’ve probably noticed a dropoff in the number of reviews that aren’t samples, and sadly the roundups have dropped off the map. As much as I love Plastikitty (this site is my baby!), when someone you love is going through not one but three major surgeries some changes have to be made to accommodate all that extra time it eats up.
But ever since I did the Asuna, Cryska and Kitty Pryde shoots when Stephen was in the hospital my love of photography has come back with a vengeance. We took a photography class together in college, and those nights spent in the darkroom are some of my favorite memories of the whole education experience. I find figure shoots so soothing, almost zenlike, and the idea of a boudoir-like photoshoot for a NSFW figure has been niggling at my mind for a while now. When perusing our boxed ladies to see who would fit this best, Maya just jumped out at me: I was originally planning on using one of our Sonikos but, well, here we are–so let’s get started!
