Toy Fair 2014 Archive

  • We’ve already seen a lot of what DC had on offer at Toyfair: Bombshells and Covergirls, TV and cartoon toys, and of course some new action figures. But there was more! Because their booth was a labyrinth of figures that you could never escape from. Just kidding, there were lots of exists, but it sure took a hell of a long time to finish shooting everything in it. There was really a little bit of everything here. Want a Deadman action figure? A super adorable black & white Batgirl statue? A badass motorcyle-riding Harley? The world’s weirdest Wonder Woman? A Green Arrow & Black Canary figure so sickly-sweet it makes me want to vomit? It’s all there, so check it out (and more!) in the gallery!

  • Remember the kind of creepy chibi comic figures we saw from Square-Enix and Kidrobot this Toy Fair? Well, this is like… the anime version of that. Trexis are a vinyl platform that hasn’t seen a lot of use in the past few years, but apparently it is being revived… and not with the designer vinyl crew, but with popular anime characters. Now you can get Bleach, Tiger & Bunny, Naruto, and Death Note figures on a kind of weird platform! This seems like Barnes & Noble weeabo fodder unless you really like the weird Lego hands, but maybe I’m just in a particularly judgmental state of mind. What do you think of these oddities, Plastikitties?

  • You know what there aren’t enough of in the world? Comic book based action figures! Just kidding, there will never be enough of those. YesAnime is a figure distributor that specializes in anime figures, but that is a fandom that often overlaps with the comic world so it wasn’t really a huge surprise to see a ton of Play Imaginative action figures in their Toy Fair booth. We had Ghost Rider, Superman, Batman, Iron Man, Hulk, and War Machine on display. So basically, all your regulars… and our Lord and Savior, Nicolas Cage.

  • Alpacas seem to the be the hot new thing nowadays. Or rather, a particular Japanese alpaca called Arpakasso. Who would have though that after the internet got tired of cats and bunnies and foxes it would move on to… alpacas. I mean, they’re definitely cuter than lamas. But still. In any case, YesAnime had a ton of them at their booth. And I do mean… a ton. Possibly a literal ton in measurement, there was just a whole lot of Arpakasso up in that display case. And I wanted to snuggle each and every one of them.

  • We have seen a bit from ThreeA so far this Toy Fair like their Dr. Doom, Iron Man, and the new figure lines. But of course that wasn’t all that they packed into their booth! There were also Squares. Little ones, big ones, chubby ones, um… well, they’re all kind of chubby aren’t they? So many Squares! I want them all. I guess there were some non-Square related things, but who cares?! Oh that’s right, everyone who isn’t me. Metal Gear Rex, Portal and Team Fortress made an appearance, along with the obligatory Tomorrow Kings & Queens and Adventure Kartel in a new size. There are new figures in a “Parade” line featuring FAT APPLE BIRDS? What even give them all to me. Then there are creepy doll girls called Sleepers and some other stuff you can totes check out after the jump.

  • Did you look at the header and think “hmm, is this supposed to be a post about Bluefin? Or maybe Kidrobot?” Nope, turns out just about every vinyl company has hopped on to the “picking up popular licenses” train! It’s a really interesting turn: when I started collecting it was all about local artists and not selling out. Now, it’s…. Power Rangers! And Mr. Potato Head, Transformers, and G.I Joe. Obviously, from a profit standpoint, this is a clear decision to make. And these little guys were pretty cute! They also had big Chaos Bunnies to compliment the amazing minis we already looked at.

  • ThreeA is known for the broad and inventive worldbuilding they have created around their toys, and it expanded quite a bit at Toy Fair. We have two (!!) new lines: Evenfall, which is a postapocalyptic undertaking, and the World of Isobelle Pascha. Usually I find ThreeA’s females a bit too… uh, well, tacky for my taste, but Isobelle is SO CUTE. The bear one, give it to me now. And her face is so cute! Ugh, I might have to start collecting ThreeA now.

  • I must have spent half my childhood begging my parents for a pet rabbit. But we had cats (who might eat a rabbit), and guinea pigs (who a rabbit would beat up), so though I tried valiantly for years I never did get a bunny. Thankfully the toy world has a wonderful solution for me: Joe Ledbetter’s Chaos Bunnies! We have seen these guys in larger formats for years, but they were both rare and expensive which left many of us in the dust. Now, thankfully, we’re getting a miniseries which really couldn’t be more cute. Hoola Bunny, Hummingbird Bunny, Faerie Bunny, they are SO CUTE! Check out the full lineup after the jump.

  • We’ve already seen a lot from Bandai: Sailor Moon, Batman, Naruto, Dragonball Z & phone undies. But Bluefin stocks a LOT of Bandai products, pretty much all of them, and their booth at Toy Fair was almost literally overflowing with figures. I mean, it was a little hard to squeeze in between all the cases given how packed it was with toys (and people)! The star of the show was the huge display for their Mario S.H.Figuarts, which took up an entire wall! It was pretty impressive, and with all the accessories you can get for him it’s easy to build a mini version of this. There were musical-based figures (Daft Punk, Michael Jackson), lots of Monsterarts, and a brand-new robot Hello Kitty. Check them all out below!

  • Who doesn’t love Uglydolls? People with no hearts, that is who. While we’ve seen the brand-new goodies they had at Toy Fair, there were of course a whole lot more at their booth which was just overflowing with ugly plushes of all shapes and sizes. The regular lineup was out and about, but the real stars were the collaborations. As you can see from the header picture, Uglydoll is teaming up with DC, bringing us Ice Bat as Batman and Babo as Superman, with even more in the gallery. There are also Hello Kitty x Uglydoll collaborations (!!), with our favorite Japanese cat wearing Ugly Suits. Squee!
