It’s no secret that I’m a rabid fan of the garage kit maker Grizzry Panda, who consistently brings us awesome and innovative sculpts. His main focus used to be on Miku Hatsune, but recently he’s been branching out a bit more. Of course my favorite of Grizzry’s sculpts is the Ultimate Madoka, and for a long time I’ve been praying for an Ultimate Homura to match.
Well… that’s not what we are getting today, but it’s something even better! A two-part figure featuring both Madoka and Homura in lovely white dresses snuggling up on a bench. I’m sure the Madoka-Homura shippers are fainting at the sight of this lovely piece, but even if you don’t want those two to live happily ever after it’s just so sweet! We only have the 3D rendering now, but both will be available for purchase at Treasure Festa in Ariake 10 on December 23rd.

Orca Toys is a new(ish) manufacturer who so far has focused almost exclusively on the ToHeart 2 girls. I’m sure most toy collectors are not fond of this idea, but as you probably know Tamaki is my waifu and true love so of course this is good news for me! But of course Tama-nee is not the only girl from the series, and it seems their new focus is on the brunette Manaka.
Their 1/5 Bunny version of her, to go with the matching and just-released Tamaki, showed up painted at Treasure Festa, along with the very risque sculpt for a 1/7 kitty version (again to go with kitty Tamaki, and a kitty Sasara as well!). Manaka is far from my favorite ToHeart girl so I am not really feeling this one, but I am definitely hoping Sasara gets a bunny version!

I am totally in love with Grizzry Panda right now–I bet you never would have guessed, given at how closely I guard this secret. My sculptor crush only had a few figures at Treasure Festa, but as always they were built to impress and surely drew quite a crowd. The teased Akane from Vividred Operation was there, being everything the GSC version is not: mainly, totally awesome and wonderful and sigh why has no one signed Grizzry yet?!
He also had his Altines, finally painted after all these months! She had a companion figure, the wow-worthy Altlene who I would like a PVC version of right now than you very much. From Alter preferably. Seriously, I’m sure at this point he’s been scoped out like Kiking and countless other sculptors before him–maybe no company has offered up enough money yet? Or perhaps Grizzry just really loves the gk scene?

Griffon is usually the only PVC company to show up to Treasure Festa, and they take advantage of it with a wide range of merchandise on display. This time around they’ve changed things up a bit though: their bread and butter franchise, Touhou Project, was mysteriously missing! Well, not missing: the derpy 1/10 figures were on display and Rumia is painted… though the less I say about her the better.
It seems like they are going back to their roots–scantily clad ladies! Many of the Wonder Festival announcements are sculpted, including Ikaruga (who is also painted) and Katsura Kotohana. Surprisingly, the just-announced Sasami Tsukuyomi is there as well, and not quite as cute as I had hoped. As for new announcements, we have quite a few–they’re doing Katsumi Liqueur and Kiddy Phenil from Silent Mobius and are going back to Ikkitousen with another Ryofu Housen. But most importantly, after their first sub-par Asuna they are taking her on again in her elf costume and this time she is looking a hell of a lot better!

I’m sure all you Soniko and/or Madoka Magica fans remember Nitro+’s April Fools joke from a while back, the fake opener for their “new” show Mahou Shoujo Sonico Magica. If not, you really should check it out! There have been a few sub-par garage kits released of this mashup in the past, but we’re finally getting a solid release for Treasure Festa in Ariake 9.
This kit will be released by the circle Mugenkyo with a retail price of only ¥8,000, which is pretty amazing for a gk! Especially considering that it is 1/6 scale. Of course my dream is for Orchid Seed to put out an officially released figure, but that is a far-flung dream considering how tightly GSC has wrapped their claws around the Madoka license.

There are a massive amount of figure-related events in Japan. Usually we cover the big ones that involve PVC: Wonder Festival, Comiket, MegaHobby, Tamashii Nations, et cetera. But of course the garage kit community probably puts out ten times as much as the PVC world, they are just a lot harder to get! The most recent gk event will be Treasure Festa in Ariake 9, which takes place on May 5th–yes, only a few days away!
So today we’re bringing you a roundup of some of the best kits that will be at the event, complete with the circle’s name in case you are lucky enough to be at the event and have the money and speed to snag one. My favorites are the adorable Yagyu from Senran Kagura and Atelier Hiro’s graceful Miku, but there’s a whole lot more–even a Kaito and an awesome Shin Megami kit with both Jack Frost and Pyro Jack! Check them all out after the jump.

Sure, Good Smile Company’s Akane Isshiki is cute, but I’ve made it no secret that I think it’s a huge waste of the sculptor Kiking’s talent and overall kind of bland given what they could have done with the character. Her band/parade uniform is just so much cooler! It’s just my luck that my current garage kit circle crush, Girzzry Panda, has made the totally perfect Akane that I’ve been dying for.. because I can’t have her. *sob*
This kit is set to be released at Treasure Festa in Ariake 9, which takes place on May 5th. Of course it’s a kit, so you need 1) the money to buy it, 2) the lightning speed to get to their booth in time to buy one of the limited kits and 3) the skills to paint and assemble it. Sadly I have none of these! And looking at their 3D colored images of her, damn, she’s going to be lovely!

Treasure Festa in Ariake 8 is long over, but there are so many vendors at the event that it takes some sites a while to get up all their images from it. In fact, moeyo is STILL working on theirs! However, one thing is crystal clear: Miku Hatsune was once again the reigning queen of the event. There were so many garage kits of her it’s almost funny, everything from adorable Miku to sexy Miku to, yes, terrifying Mikudayo. We’ve got custom figmas and Nendroids and Mikus of every variation: snow, sakura, magician, even Santa Miku! My favorite, though, is the Teddybear Miku shown in the header, she’s just so sweet and lovely. Check them all out in the gallery.

Treasure Festa is mostly about garage kits, so many figure companies have no reason to attend. But Griffon always shows up, mainly because of their huge presence in the Touhou community. Really then, it’s no surprise that we have new Touhou stuff for you! Well, one new figure: they are doing yet another Sakuya Izayoi. I am a huge fan of her so I am not going to complain!
Then we have a new figure: Nadia of the Blue Water! Look at how gorgeous she is, can you believe it’s Griffon? She’s just so lovely! Back to Touhou we are seeing Kasen Ibaraki painted, she’s lovely and very spring-y. Oh, and we are seeing Parsee again but still unpainted, so nothing new sadly.

It’s that time of year once again, when garage kit makers come out in force to sell their goods! It seems like there are roughly a dozen Treasure Festas a year, and the next one takes place on the 16th. Of course there are tons and tons of goodies, so we’re bringing you the good, the bad, and the (very) busty in the gallery. Sword Art Online seems to be leading the pack, though of course we’ve got Vocaloids galore with Miku taking the spotlight. Heck, we’ve even got a Thanatos from Persona 3! Check them all out after the jump.
