Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ Archive

  • Once again, Alter’s event booth is totally dominated by idol girls (and some idol boys!). Oddly enough, I kind of hate watching all those shows but I passionately love the figures. Who knows with these things. And oh boy is this a good year for idol-loving peeps. Their stunning Ranko is painted, along with Sachiko. We’ve got the world’s freaking cutest Anzu Futaba and a sassy as hell Shiki Ichinose. As for Love Live!, there are new figures of Rin Hoshizora and Hanayo Koizumi. For the boys, we have Ai Mikaze and Ranmaru Kurosaki from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ painted and Camus is sculpted. The much-anticipated Okoi from Oboro Muramasa is here, and we have an announcement for Torahime! There was a surprise sculpt for SAO‘s Sinon, the casual Lancer sculpt, Ikumi Mito it painted, and we’ve got a very suggestive maid Lala. Oh, and Santa Alter Saber is on display too! It’s so weird and over the top but I love Christmas figures. [via AmiAmi’s Twitter]

  • Alter has always been my favorite figure manufacturer, and while there have been times my heart was swayed by others (Max Factory! AlphaMax! Orchid Seed!), I come back to them time and time again because of their consistent quality and unique sculpts. And once again they brought it in force to MegaHobby with a variety of gorgeous sculpts, painted figures, and new announcements. Of course there were a few from their IDOLM@STER line: their Rin Shibuya (who looks basically identical to the GSC one, let’s be honest) is painted, and they brought out the sculpt for their perfect winged Ranko who I love with all my heart. And the boys were out in force! Rei and Ritsu Sakuma from Ensemble Stars!, Cecil Aijima from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪, Haruka Nanase and Tachibana Mako from Free!, and an announcement for 3 new Free! boys: Sousuke Yamazaki, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rei Ryuugazaki. Plus the brand-new Dio Eraclea from Last Exile. They also had a beautiful 1/6 scale figure of Takao, the cheesy but appealing Santa Saber Alter, Ikumi Mito finally sculpted, Lala Deviluke in a maid outfit, Plachta from the Atelier games, and two new announcements: Hikari Karibuchi from Brave Witches and Okoi from Oboro Muramasa! • Usually Alter saves their A-game for MegaHobby. Let’s be honest, their Wonder Festival displays tend to leave one lacking. But not this year, oh no. Apparently they caught on to how much I whine about it and were like ‘HEY CHECK OUT ALL THIS AMAZING SHIT, what now???’ Now, Alter, I spend all of my money on your shit. I mean oh my god. First off, we’re getting a brand-new Gwendolyn! What a surprise. I thought the new Velvet was to go with old Gwen & Mercedes, but I guessed wrong (does this mean we get a new Mercedes too??). Then we have the gayest figure on earth from Free–they’re finally doing dual figures with boys! Speaking of Altair, there are sooo many boys: mostly from Ensemble Stars! and Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ . We’ve got tons of IDOLM@STER and Love Live!, including the Ranko to end all Rankos. The WINGS. Then we have so very many announcements. Three Fate/Grand Order girls: Lancer, Saber Alter, and Jeanne d’Arc. We”ll be getting more IM@S (of course), a new Lala, and a figure of Rem from Re:Zero, who seems quite popular this year. • Alter tends to have kind of disappointing showings at Wonder Festival because they’re saving the big guns for MegaHobby. Once again they’ve managed to surprise me: we’ve seen the Velvet announcement already, but they had so much new stuff at this event! We’ve got a gorgeous Haruna from Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova, the announcement for a figure of Yuuki Yuuna, the shockingly cute Kotori Minami and Maki Nishikino from Love Live!, the painted Beethoven, the sculpt for their new Hyakka girl, and more. Okay, I kind of have to tell you about the “and more” don’t I? Well, Archer’s sculpt is here (thought with no improvements) and they’ve got the full lineup of Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ figures. The new Senhime is fully painted, along with their stunning Aliasse from Valkyria Chronicles. Oh, and last but not least, they’ve got Shinobu all painted! And Black Heart too. • Alter’s Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ line has been moving at their usual glacial pace. First we had Tokiya and Otoya, then Ren and Masato, and now we’re getting a look at the third duo. And… well, they certainly are two dudes in stage outfits! Honestly, I think this line just isn’t for me. I actually have Tokiya and Otoya and am thinking of selling them. Cutesy girl idols are my thing, it seems, but not boy ones. And is it just me, or do the sculpts on these two look a bit sloppy compared to the previous additions? Probably just me. I am not digging all the fur lining. [via the Altair Blog]

  • Wonder Festival is now only one day away, and we’re coming to the end of our pre-event garage kit coverage! We’ve been over quite a bit, but by far the biggest category is exactly what you would expect: anime and manga related characters. This year, like pretty much every other, there’s a fantastic mix of old and new. From shows that just wrapped up to ones that ended decades ago, it’s all here! Check them all out in the gallery below and let us know your favorites. • Alter sure has taken a shine to the world of Uta no☆Prince-sama♪. First there was Tokiya and Otoya, then we got the sculpt for these two here, and there is already another duo announced: Natsuki Shinomiya and Shou Kurusu. It’s just about time for some more orders, so to absolutely no one’s surprise we are getting a peek at these boys all painted up. My reaction is pretty much the opposite as it was the first time around. I expected to hate Tokiya and Otoya but loved them. Now I was expecting to love Ren Jiinguuji and Masato Hijirikawa, but I just feel… let down. Their hair is so weird! And the folds. Clothing folds are usually good, especially with Alter, but they looks stiff and fake here. I’m really disappointed, especially with Ren. I so wanted to love him. But if you love this sparkling duo, orders open on the 27th! [via Altair’s Blog]

  • Alter’s all-male line Altair hasn’t exactly been wowing me… that is, until they started working on the boys from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ ! I was smitten with the first duo, Otoya Ittoki and Tokiya Ichinose, and we’ve known for a while know that Masato Hijirikawa and Ren Jinguuji would be the next in line. Alter has been taking their sweet time to sculpt these two, but they’re finally done! I am totally loving Ren, but Masato’s funny bowl cut is throwing me off a little. It’s just kind of… silly? But I’m sure I’ll get over it once he is painted! And the best news of all is that Otoya and Tokiya will be getting a re-release (which is awesome, because I’m one of the people who missed them the first time around). Now to wait patiently for Natsuki Shinomiya and Shou Kurusu. [via Altair’s Blog]

  • In the past year or so, Alter has consistently been having less than wow-worthy conventions: perhaps splitting their figures between MegaHobby and WonFest isn’t the best idea, since we only get half as much from them as from other companies. In any case, I’m not that impressed by their Summer 2013 lineup aside from Labrys and Soniko who we already covered. There aren’t a ton of new sculpts: we have Summer Holiday Hayate and child Hayate, who were already announced… and that’s it. Signum, Miu Takanashi and Aty are painted (Aty in particular looks AWESOME). And Zelos Wilder is just kinda hanging out there. Oh, and there are lots of “just announcements.” Natsuki Shinomiya and Shou Kurusu will join their Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ line, there’s a To LoveRU Darkness figure we’re not allowed to see, they’re taking on Akane Isshiki from (yawn), we’re finally getting Tamako Market characters (Anko Kitashirakawa), and… they’ll be doing Shinobu from Nisemonogatari, who seems very popular lately! Some exciting announcements, let’s see if the sculpts hold up. [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]

  • I’ve been pretty outspoken in my disappointment with Alter’s all-boys Altair line, though it seems like they are finally taking a turn towards actual Alter quality now. Their duo of Otoya Ittoki and Tokiya Ichinose from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ (aka IOLDM@STER with boys) look absolutely fabulous! The original shots we saw of their coloring seemed a bit, well, one-dimensional but they look so much better in these studio shots. I love the bold colors and use of pearlescent paints, gives a nice stage atmosphere. Of the two I definitely prefer Tokiya, mainly because I am a sucker for purple and blue in combination. His face also looks the best of the two in my opinion. Otoya’s standard face is a little… weird-looking. Like his eyes are too big? But not really an issue because, come on, who is NOT going to use that adorable alternate winking expression? They’re set to go up for order on the 12th, and Masato and Ren are next in line.
