Vividred Operation Archive

  • Phew! Medicom really pulled out all the stops here on their ever growing Real Action Heroes line. There weren’t many new additions, but the few new additions are all phenomenal and must owns, personally, so I’d rather take quality over quantity for once. First up are Eren and Annie joining Mikasa and Levi in the Attack on Titan Real Action Hero line. Both look spot on to their animation models and I love their fabric outfits. Moving on we also have two other new announcements: Ryuuko Matoi from Kill la Kill and Eva Unit 13 from, well, I think you all can figure that one out since the show title is in his name. I’m not gonna lie, Senketsu actually looks pretty badass on the RAH, but those weird slapped on boob circles make this an insta-pass for me just like the figma. Eva Unit 13 though you don’t even need to ask me about since I have almost all of the other Eva Unit RAHs (just missing the limited ones, but I digress…) Also, hidden in the background are a few scaled figures from Medicom, namely, Akane Isshiki and Himawari Shinomiya from Vividred Operation. That’s a lot from one company who’s more known for their vinyl endeavors! [via shingeki_check and 2chan]

  • Treasure Festa is always bursting at the seams with garage kits, but this event seems particularly bountiful. There was a whole lot going on, and lots of delicious goodies on display, including a few kits we have featured on the site recently: Lisasays’ Beethoven, Sakura Zensen’s Saber Bride, Grizzry Panda’s Madoka & Homura, and Iousen’s Soniko. There were also all the usual suspects: lots of Miku Hatsune, Infinite Stratos, Touhou Project, Madoka (the swimsuit Mami is divinely hilarious), Vividred Operation, Type-Moon, PreCure, Sword Art Online. For me, the standouts were the original character in the header, whose sculpt is so pretty I’d probably kill a few puppies for a PVC release. I mean… she’s stunning! Then there’s the Sakura & Tomoyo duo which is too cute for words, and the awesome Panty Anarchy. Of course we’ve got funny ones too: the amazingly bad Dragon’s Crown girls stand out the most to me. • Were you sitting around thinking to yourself, “man, I really want to look at some figures I can’t really afford. You know, the kind that cost too much, require a proxy, will be delayed forever, and won’t even look anything like what I ordered right out of the box! No, I want to WORK on my figures! No straight from the box for me!” Well then you are in luck, because Volks had their dreaded CharaGumin line on full display at Hobby Round 10. Vividred Operation, Love Live! School Idol Project, and Suisei no Gargantia. If instead you live life on the crazy side and like figures to look as advertized, we have something for you crazy cats as well. Volks had their PVC versions of Aerie and Amil–oh wait, did I say PVC? Like they have been advertizing them for YEARS now? Just kidding, they’re CharaGumin too! This is why no one likes you, Volks. There’s also some bonus Dolpa coverage of the new Dollfie Dreams, Erica Fontaine & Yaya, along with SD Belldandy. [via Akibahobby]

  • Griffon tends to have a small showing at big events like Wonder Festival: tiny booths with not a whole lot going on. They save the big guns for garage-kit centered events, which seems to be where they shine. I mean, I know we bash Griffon all the time, but clearly they sell enough figures to keep in pretty good business. With a nice combo of picking up GKs and taking on smaller licenses, they get the job done. They had quite a few announcements this time around: Kirino and Kuroneko will be joining their 1/2.5 line, both in cat swimsuit versions, with Kirino already sculpted. Hozuki Ferrari from Galilei Donna will also be added to the giant scales, hopefully with a certain goldfish companion. There are two other new sculpts: a new version of Akane Isshiki (which I am ashamed to admit I like), and Karen Kujou from Kiniro Mosaic. Their Nanoricchi line is making progress as well: Asuna, Elizabeth and Aegis are sculpted and there are a ton of new announcements: Remilia, Reimu, Sonico,  Kazuki Ferrari, Hazuki Ferrari, and Grande Rosso (!!!!!!!!). I am VERY EXCITED for the goldfish. Very. Excited. How is a goldfish getting an entire figure? I DON’T EVEN CARE. [via Hobbylog]

  • Is the Vividred Operation craze done yet? Because I am soooo over it. Personally, I find the character designs uninspired and the figures just boring. Like, so boring. Even Kiking couldn’t make a good sculpt of her (though to be honest I think Good Smile Company is squandering his immense talent on boring and useless figures….). So, yeah, I’m not really that excited about this figure. It’s Akane. In her gym uniform. I don’t even get gym uniforms! Sweaty, gross. Gym class was the very worst thing about high school, so I don’t need to relive with with a creepily toned, 13-year-old looking figure. Pass. Do I seem particularly grumpy about Akane? Orders open on Christmas Eve if she’s your jam, though I feel like this is bargain bin bait waiting to happen. [via Alter’s Blog]

  • I was really uninpressed but Alter’s Summer WonFest 2013 offerings, but it seems like that’s because they were saving all the good stuff for MegaHobby Autumn 2013! We got a veritable deluge of figures: swimsuit versions of Charlotte & Cecilia, Akane Isshiki from Vividred Operation, two Strike Witches, a gorgeous new Sora Kasugano, Asuka from Senran Kagura, and The Muse of Range Murata. Of course they had even more great figures, but we’ll be taking a look at the rest a bit later! There was a whole lot to feast your eyes upon, but at the time we (obviously) only had event photography. Quick, “oh my god look at this figure!” event photography. But some time has passed, which means it’s time to sit back, relax, and browse some higher quality galleries of these gorgeous ladies. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but my money’s on Sora all the way. I mean…. that dress. She’s perfect! [via Tmizo’s Flickr]

  • When will we be free of Vividred Operation figures? The answer is probably not for at least a year. But if we’re going to get figures from a boring cast design, they might as well be from Alter! Right? That was my thought when we got the announcement but oh goodness this is more boring than the Good Smile Company one (which I don’t even like). Okay, so she’s cute. Kind of reminds me of Alter’s Charlotte, but without that… spark. I just find all the Vividred figures kind of flat and lifeless. But it must be just me, because they’re obviously selling well! • We’ve already shown you a few of the more memorable pieces at Good Smile Company’s booth: Belldandy & Holly Bell, the Attack On Titan goods, 7th Dragon Miku, Bayonetta, and Nyaruko. But of course there are more than just a few figures in a booth as big as Good Smile’s! They had lots of Madoka merchandise as you’d expect, in fact it was almost their whole lineup! Nendoroids and scaled figures a plenty. In fact there were tons of Nendoroids from a lot of different shows and series as well as figmas and scaled figures. We’ve got Vocaloids, Samus,  Dangan Ronpa, and a few of their past exclusives. Check them all out in the gallery!

  • There are very few companies who specialize in large figures. And no, I’m not talking about 1/6 or even 1/4: more like… 1/2.5! Yeah, I know, it’s weird–why not 1/3 or 1/2? Why the .5? But either way, it seems like it’s not just A+ who is working in this scale anymore, but Griffon! They mysteriously have a figure in this scale of Himawari Shinomiya on display which, let’s face it, is not that exciting. Who is gonna drop $300 on a figure of her?! But the other announcements… those are something to (potentially, this is Griffon after all) get pumped for. We’ve got Asuna from Sword Art Online, Super Soniko, and… Aegis from Persona 3 (yeah that one strikes me as weird, since when does Griffon do SMT figs?!). Let’s just hope the sculpts turn out… halfway decent. [via IoryHamon’s Twitter]

  • At Wonder Festival, Griffon didn’t announce nearly as many figures as you’d expect from the company. And I’m sure you were all disappointed, because they are everyone’s favorite figure manufacturer! (But come on, that cat Kirino was super cute) It seems like they were saving them for some random event no one cares about because… here they are! Tons of announcements! So let’s dive right in. We’ve got pretty much the whole cast of Fantasista Doll (confession: the name makes me think of a Gem-like cartoon set in Harlem, which would be AMAZING): Akari, Katia, Sasara, Uzume Uno, Shimeji and Madeleine. Then we have two Genei o Kakeru Taiyou girls, Seira Hoshikawa and Akari Taiyou.  They’ll also be doing school uniform versions of Akane Isshiki and Himawari Shinomiya from Vividred Operation (oh joy) and we have yet another Asuna sculpt from them. Last but not least, they seem to be doing their own line of chibi figures that look a LOT like Cu-Poche. We have announcements for 2 Asunas (battle outfit & Titania) and Kirito. I’m actualy kind of excited to see how Kirito comes out! [via 2chan & Griffon’s Blog]
