As collectors, our focus for Wonder Festival is obviously on the things that you can, you know, actually buy. But at the event, purchasable PVC figures are outnumbered pretty substantially by garage kits. We of course brought you our usual before-event roundup, but it’s time to take a look at all the goodies that were out and about that day!
The quality ranges from amazing to god-awful, so we tried to bring you the cream of the crop. Though I will admit, quite a few in this gallery are just here because of how odd they are. Shirtless Gilgamesh? Girl getting (happily) eaten by a shark? Cat on a motorcycle? Check ’em out and tons more below the jump!

Union Creative used to be known as “that company that basically just makes guys standing around.” Somehow they have turned into “that company that sometimes makes guys but mainly it’s half-naked girls.” When? How? Why? This was on full effect at Wonder Festival, where they had nary a male in sight. However, lots of ladies. Strange.
The star was definitely their Halloween Miku, who is so freaking cute and the sculpt looks sharp as hell. They also had the half-naked Reika from Gantz:0, the almost-naked Ryomou Shimei, and the more-clothing-than-the-others Mumei. Oh, and a sculpt for Ayame Tomogawa from Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, a show that I thought would get a ton of figure attention and now has barely any.

FREEing seems to only make 3 things: huge bunny girls, tiny swimsuit girls, and medium-sized yukata girls. And sometimes boys in various sizes (though, so far, never a bunny one!). This year, yeah, that’s all they had. Lots ‘o bunnies, swimsuits, and yukatas. For some characters, like Rem & Ram, you get both mega bunny size AND mini swimsuit size!
We’ve got some bunny-sized Muv-Luv girls (Yui Takamura, Ilfriede von Feulner), Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! 2 bunnies (Aqua & Megumin), Highschool DxD swimsuit girls (Rias & Akeno) and the surprising addition of Shinji & Kaworu in yukatas. As for announcements, we have 2 Dead or Alive bunnies (Marie Rose, Honoka), 2 Girls und Panzer bunnies (Yukari & Kay), and Kaito. Man, I love how popular Marie Rose suddenly is!
[UPDATE] FREEIng is doing another tan waifu, aka Thailand Racing Miku 2016! SO CUTE
[UPDATE 2] Added some stragglers to the gallery

Max Factory is one of my favorite companies, but they’re certainly not a super productive one. They only had a few scaled figures on hand at WonFest, but they were lovely! Like that bike racing Miku: so cute! There’s also a Luka figure if you’re all Miku’d out. Wedding Lingerie Lala is finally here, and Murakumo from KanColle is painted.
We also have 3 Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata announcements (so many from them and GSC!): Utaha, Eriri, and Megumi. Oh, and there’s a surprise Devilman outta nowhere. A large portion of their display is dedicated to the small figures, like their Love Live figFIX and the model kit Plamax (Dirty Pair!). Plus we had all those Fate/Grand Order figures from earlier.
[UPDATE] We have a picture of their Iowa!

It seems like every year Good Smile goes bigger and bigger. We’ve already seen their Fate/Grand Order scales, but they have over 25 others at the event. So let’s just dive right in! A massive amount of the announcements are from Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata: Utaha Kasumigaoka, Eriri Spencer Sawamura, Michiru Hyoudou, and Megumi Katou are all getting swimsuit figures. There will also be a figure of Eriri in the very strange ‘Hot Limit’ line that also includes Uzuki Shimamura (with floating boobs!) and Sonico. Speaking of Sonico, her wedding figure is painted. So disappointed: I wish she was less tacky, because the sculpt is gorgeous.
Moving on, we have Albedo painted, along with the teased Miku Hatsune and Vira. Their Rem from Re:Zero will of course have a matching Ram, and they’ll give us (of course) a second Rem–the birthday cake version. From KanColle there’s Warspite and Shigure, and some other weapon-wielding ladies like Arisa from Shadowverse & Izetta from Shuumatsu no Izetta. Both Mitsuha Miyamizu and Taki Tachibana from Kimi no Na wa will also be getting figures.
Not enough? Well, there’s more! Wilhelmina and Mei Irizaki from High School Fleet, an amazing diorama from Dead Dead Demon’s Dededededestruction, Sayaka & Kyouko, Phosphophyllite from Houseki no Kuni. Damn, that’s a lot of figures!

It’s that time again! Time to look at a few of the garage kits that will be on display and for sale at Wonder Festival. Of course for most of us this is just to drool over, but as always if you are attending the event each picture is labeled with the circle & character name! Also, I am insanely jealous of you.
The trends this year are basically what you would expect. Tons of Re:Zero (and by that I mean tons of Rem & Ram, who cares about the other characters!), idol shows out in force, and quite a bit of Granblue Fantasy. Some old trends seem to be dying (there’s very little of Miku & Sonico compared to previous years). And, surprisingly, Cartoon Network is represented quite a bit. Check them all out in the gallery below, and let us know what you’d like to see as PVC!

I’ve always been surprised that Good Smile Company doesn’t do yearly scaled Snow Mikus the way they do with Racing Miku. It seems like easy cash: the designs are (usually) very nice, and us Miku fans go crazy for interesting scaled figures of her. But yet there are so few! Thankfully that is being fixed a little bit by Good Smile’s take on her.
This is such a unique, interesting figure: first off, she’s snowboarding, and do we have any other figures doing that? Probably, but none as cool and dynamic as this one. I’m just in love with how great she looks from every angle. Pre-orders should start soon, and she’ll have a November release date along with a ¥14,800 pricetag. Ouch!

At the tail end of last year, Good Smile Company unveiled the art for Racing Miku 2017 which is designed by Tony Taka. I find myself ordering less and less every month and in fact it takes a lot for any figure to interest me now, but I am always such a sucker for the Racing Miku line… and this year looks like it will be no exception! Tony Taka, Miku, butterfly wings, soft pastel colors? Yes please.
Of course we don’t just get the figure: there’s a figma and Nendoroid too! This might actually be the first time Tony’s art has been on a Nendoroid, since I can’t think of a single other. GSC was never on the Shining World hype train, after all. But oh my god does his style look adorable all chibi and fat! I hope that, unlike Snow Miku, they keep all the detail in her outfit because this could be a really spectacular Nendoroid.

So far, Stronger’s Maiko Vocaloid line has been totally on point. Their Miku, who just came out last month, was breathtakingly gorgeous, and they followed it up with Meiko & Kaito. We found out last year that Luka would be the next to join in, and of course her art is as pretty as you’d expect.
Now she’s all sculpted and even nicer than what I imagined! The branch is so elaborate… and will take up a lot of shelf space, but if she’s even half as nice as the finished Miku it’s totally worth it. Luka is my favorite Vocaloid so it’s great to see her getting so much love recently. I expect Rin & Len to follow shortly!
