  • Most shows do not get mini-events where the figures on display are 99% from it. But somehow, IDOLM@STER consistently does! Probably because every company under the sun has made at least one of the girls, so there is always a lot of news. And this event is no exception. There was so much on display! Alpha x Omega’s Nao Kamiya, Rin Shibuya, and Karen Houjou trio is painted, as is Alter’s Love Laika set of Minami Nitta, Ranko Kanzaki, and Anastasia. Alter also had two new announcements: Uzuki Shimamura and Shiki Ichinose. Oh, and the sculpt for Sachiko Koshimizu on display. Alter, calm down! Wave, a company that’s very much fallen out of popularity, was on hand with a few girls. Mika Jougasaki is painted, and they had a sculpt for swimsuit Ranko along with the announcement for a Beach Queen Nitta. Last but not least, Kotobukiya brought a few girls! They had a surprise sculpt for Yuki Himekawa along with an announcement for Cu-Poche Kaede Takagaki. [UPDATE] Added two of Phat’s figures! [via whitenoize & figsoku]

  • While Good Smile Company & Co seemed to bring every new figure they had to Miyazawa Model Expo, other companies seemed a bit more conservative. They had 2-4 figures, and most of them were nothing new or exciting. They need to step up their game! But of course we still have lots of goodies to look at. Like the just-revealed Asuka Cu-Poche from Kotobukiya, mystery company Bell Fine’s gorgeous Nadia, not one but two terrifying Pochacos, Gecco’s Quiet statue, and a couple figures of questionable anatomy that make Pochaco look almost normal. All that and more after the jump! [via moeyo]

  • Every year there’s this weird post-Wonder Festival event that’s basically all the same stuff in a much smaller space with none of the crowds. It’s more for taking shots of the figures than actually buying them, so it’s an industry event. And every year I don’t pay attention because, you know, we literally just saw all this stuff. But this year, Wave didn’t show up to Wonder Festival! Or at least they didn’t show anything worthwhile. They brought it all to this. Who even know why. Their Beach Queens line is strangely absent, but we do have updates on their Infinite Stratos lingerie girls (which you’d think I’d love, but I don’t) and the IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls, who are looking cute–especially Ranko. • You know what we need right before MegaHobby? Another figure event! What is up with how many we’ve had this fall? This time it’s one dedicated only to IDOLM@STER, and there were a LOT of figures at it. Wave, surprisingly, is making non-Beach Queens figures of some of the Cinderella Girls: sculpts for Kaede Takagaki and Miku Maekawa appeared, along with announcements for Rika Jougasaki, Miria Akagi, and Kirari Moroboshi. We’re also getting another Dollfie Dream from Volks: Rin Shibuya! Kotobukiya joined the party with the sculpt for Kaede Takagaki and an announcement for Nana Abe. Good Smile Company & Co had, of course, the most updates. Phat! Company had many of their girls, along with a brand new sculpt of Rin Shibuya. The Love Laika version of Anastasia, which just went up for order, was painted, along with the matching Minami Nitta. Good Smile’s Crystal Night Party figure of Uzuki Shimamura is sculpted, and we have figmas of Rika and Mika Jougasaki based on their anime appearance. Then we have Alter! First, three announcements from their Alpha x Omega collaboration: Rin Shibuya, Karen Houjou, and Nao Kamiya. They also showed off the amazing sculpts for Riina Tada and Miku Maekawa. Phew, that’s a lot of idols! [via taka humo, kuroneko_r, and kahotan]

  • It seems like Good Smile Company & co brought more to Miyazawa Model Expo than everyone else combined. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have good stuff from the other companies! In fact, we have way more non-GSC news to show you. So let’s just dive right in! Vertex showed off a ton of sculpts, including the Rune Knight from 7th Dragon which looks amazing. Kaitendoh’s Hestia is painted, and Wave brought theirs as well (along with tons of Beach Queens, most of them from Love Live). Dragon Toy/Daiki Kougyou showed off a handful of new sculpts, including some original Oda Non works. One of AlphaMax’s newest Tony Taka girls is painted, Orchid Seed actually made progress on a figure, we have announcements from Revolve and Gecco, there’s a new set of Digimon figures from MegaHouse, and tons more. Check it all out in the gallery! [via Akibahobby]

  • When Wave announced that they were doing some new figures for Evangelion’s 20th Anniversary, I was super hyped. I love their smaller 1/10 scale Treasure figure lines, and it’s given us some amazing Eva girls (especially Asuka, who got that fantastic apron figure). But, alas, my dreams are crushed. No 3.0 Asuka & Mari for me! It’s, of course, a Beach Queens announcement. Because who doesn’t want to drop an insane amount of money on very small figures in swimsuits? I actually used to like the line, but the price jack a few years ago has kept me (and a lot of other people too, based on sales) away from them. But perhaps the lure of Evangelion will change our minds? Based on Rei’s incredibly boring/basic swimsuit, I’m thinking no. Give me cat-ear Asuka in a swimsuit and a matching Mari and I am totally on board. [via Wave’s Blog]

  • Wave was conspicuously absent from Wonder Festival. I thought the pressure of no one buying the insanely overpriced Beach Queens might finally be taking its toll, but it seems like they were just… saving a bunch of sculpts. And, shockingly, none of them are bikini girls! We have two stand-alone figures: one of Hestia, and another of Miho Nishizumi. Is EVERYONE making a Hestia? Sure feels like it. Then we have two girls from Infinite Stratos, Houki and Charlotte, in lingerie. I’m going to guess that they will eventually do all the girls, much like their Saber lingerie line. And considering how smitten I am with the IS cast, this is great news! They’ve shown off Houki in two colors, pink and white, with one of them presumably being an exclusive because Wave just can’t resist making crazy expensive alternate colorways. Hopefully the white is the regular release, because I like it a lot more than the pink. [via Wave’s Twitter]

  • About two years ago, Wave jacked up the price of their 1/10 Beach Queens line significantly, so that they basically rivaled a lot of 1/8 scale figures in prices. There was obvious backlash to this: sales fell, and we see about a third as many Beach Queens nowadays as we used to. I mean, it used to be like 4 a month. Now they hardly ever pop up for order. But the line still chugs on, and the next addition will be Isuzu Sento from Amagi Brilliant Park! And her sculpt is… well, let’s just be honest. It’s not good. Her head is super tiny and her bust is way bigger than on any of her other figures, which there are a lot of. Want a figure of Isuzu? You’ve got Amakuni and Kotobukiya to choose from right now, along with Max Factory’s upcoming one. Dying for a bikini version of her? There’s a cute prize figure. I mean, this does come in two colors (though you know one of them is going to be exclusive) but do you really want to pay $60 for that teeny tiny head?! It’s so small. Why, Wave. Why. • It’s time for B-B-B-B-BBBBBUTTSS! That’s right, after sadly missing the 2013 Golden Boobies (technical difficulties?), we’re back with 2014’s batch of Best Butts. Which, I’ll be honest, is my favorite of all our “best of” features to write. Probably because there’s no worst of–I mean, sometimes butts are disappointing, but can they really be bad? There’s beauty in every (figure) butt, so let’s hit the jump and check out the best of the best!

  • For a while now, Wave has been milking the Fate/Stay Night hype train with many, many bikini figures of Saber and her various incarnations. Not, you know, bikini Rider. Just endless Sabers along with a few other assorted characters (Caster Extra, Ilya, Rin). Now it’s time for EVEN MORE SABER. They have FOUR figures of her planned–or rather a figure of Saber, one of Saber Lily, then Saber Alter and of course Saber Extra. Unlike Wave’s usual fare, these are not Beach Queens. Shocking, right? They’re part of the Dream Tech line and are “lingerie versions” based on this illustration. Dream Tech is a 1/8 scale line, not Wave’s usual tiny 1/10, and I love the lying down poses. I really don’t need any more Saber in my life but I kind of want them… and, of course, for a matching Unlimited Blade Works Rin. [via Wave’s Blog]
