When they showed off the art I thought she was way too busty for my taste, and the sculpt didn’t wow me either. But seeing her painted has totally changed my opinion! Okay, so we actually saw her painted before, but the lighting there really didn’t do Meiko justice.

Here she is looking totally fantastic! Look at that shading! Her hair, her face, the colors! I love that her stockings are digging into her legs realistically, and I can even overlook how large her bust is given how she has the exact opposite of balloon boobs (hooray!). And the base is pretty awesome. Wing has teased that she’s going to be cast-off as well, so I guess we’ll be seeing a whole lot more of that nice butt. Orders open tonight!

[via Wing's Blog]

What happened to last week’s, you ask? My dog ate it.

You probably don’t know this but I tend to write the intro for these after everything else is done, and am terrified that one day I will forget and one of my stupid placeholder sentences like “some words” or “a few butts” will pop up on the front page instead. But today is not that day! Today is the day I ramble because we have really slim pickings. Sure, there are some nice figures, but it seems like none of the big companies came out to play. No scaled figures from Alter, Kotobukiya, Good Smile Company, Max Factory, even Phat! or Daiki. But of course there are some nice figures–check them out after the jump!

But apparently Wing is already hard at work with promotional images of all their new ladies! We’ll start with Fiona, since there are two of her. The first, designed by Kazama Raita at 1/7 scale, is almost ready for orders and will retail for ¥8,800 with a June release. The second, designed by Shunya Yamashita, is still in the grey prototype stage but my goodness she is gorgeous! I really hope they make the other 2 girls from the art as well.

Then we have two figures in the S.K series, Asuna and Mikoto Misaka. I have the S.K Soniko and she’s a real cutie, very poseable without losing the chibi proportions. I am definitely looking forward to Asuna! Last but not least is Meiko, who is fully painted and looking much better than the art in my opinion. Since she’s all painted I expect orders to open soon.

Take, for example, the Devil’s Cheerleader who is illustrated by (I kid you not) Rockin’ Jelly Bean. Best artist name ever? I think so. But the girl is, uh, well, she’s… her hair is nice? But the anatomy is so ridiculously strange. She’s got a boob flounder going on, a waist so small there’s no room for her organs, a butt that must be made from implants, and there is no possible way for her left leg to connect to her body. She looks like a US comics girl!

Actually, I’m kind of excited to see Wing take her on because they have taken art I really don’t like before (like Meiko) and made a pretty awesome figure that remains true to the female body without going overboard. And god knows they gave Soniko a respectable figure!

[UPDATE] We have some new info on this figure! She will be 12 inches tall with a pedestal base and should be released in late fall, and we also have a short video of the sculpt here. Her stomach area definitely looks a lot better!
