Winter WonFest 2015 Archive

  • We’ve seen a lot of Persona figures, but with one exception they have been from 3 or 4. So leave it to World Scope/Contribe, who made Adachi, to tackle a character from Persona 2: Innocent Sin. And not just a character, but a Persona! This is Apollo, and given that Contribe is making Magatsu Izanagi (in theory, we haven’t seen it in a while…) perhaps a Persona isn’t that unusual. What Personas would you like to see? I mean, Mara is the right answer, but who is your #2? [via Emdmasousan]

  • Sometimes you can’t help but like figures you really, really shouldn’t. Like this Illya here. I mean, it’s so many things I love. Her face is adorable, there are both cat ears and a cat outfit, the base is AMAZING, and they did a good job on the fluffy bits. But Illya isn’t just a loli–she’s actually underage, and there’s like underboob going on here. BUT SHE’S SO CUTE. I don’t know how to feel about this, guys. [via

  • Pulchra was all about Kantai Collection this year. And I mean ALL ABOUT IT. They literally only had KanColle girls in their booth, which is great if you’re a fan… but so many of us are sick and tired of KanColle. Not even halfway through the anime. The marketing merch is just exhausting. Tokitsukaze, Shiranui and Kagerou were painted, and we have sculpts for Tone and Isokaze. [via moeyo]

  • Kaitendoh and Lechery are sister companies: think of them like Max Factory and Native. One makes not-smut, the other makes smut. Only, you know, Kaitendoh’s quality can’t even dream as being as good as MF or Native. But they still make figures, so we’re gonna write about them! Kaitendoh only had a few things on hand: their “football” Pochaco, a cool-looking sculpt of Sinon, and Xenovia from Highschool DxD. Then there’s Lechery. The gulag captain-looking fox lady is Ookami-san from their Fairy Tale line. What bedtime stories did they hear as kids?! Then there’s the announcement for ANOTHER Shamsiel Shahal, an absolutely bizarre tentacle girl, and… some topless girls on bikes/scooters? Is this a companion piece to tricycle girl? [via Akibahobby]

  • This Wonder Festival, I’ve gotten the distinct impression that several companies are either phasing out or drastically turning down their figure production. Booths that used to be booming now just have a handful of figures, and Griffon is sadly a prime example of that. There was almost nothing new at their booth: basically it was all figures already up for order, and the painted version of Kerberos. It’s a shame, because they have upped their quality drastically in the past year or so: their Alleyne and Charlotte I both own and adore. As for new announcements… there was only one totally new thing, which is shocking. They’ll be doing the three girls from Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu: Tail Yellow, Tail Blue & Tail Red. They’ll also be adding Fang Lin Yin to their Infinite Stratos line. [via moeyo & Akibahobby]

  • We’ve already showed off two figma announcements thus far, Yami Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh! (which WILL also get a Dark Magician Girl figma, thanks for the heads up Germaniac!) and the Magic Knight Rayearth announcement. Just like Nendoroids, most of what the Good Smile Company umbrella seems to bring anymore are smaller cheaper figures they can sell a veritable buttload of, so while Good Smile Company has a handle on all things chibi with Nendoroids, Max Factory is taking care of all of our poseable needs with over 30 new figmas. Up in the header we’ve got the newest Racing Miku design for 2015 that looks like all of the other ones, but with some new gradients and more clear plastic on her, the protagonist from Persona 4, who looks badass as all hell, and Rin Tohsaka from Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works. We’ve also got an announcement of Emiya Shirou, also from Unlimited Blade Works (who in the world actually WANTS this?), Angela Balzac from Expelled From Paradise, new versions of Asuna, Kirito, and Leafa from Sword Art Online II, Haruna and Takao from Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova, Conan from Mirai Shounen Conan, Holmes from Meitantei Holmes (who is awesome), an Iron Man mark XXI (because people totally asked for this…), Kiryuu Kazama from Ryuu ga Gotoku, R. Tanaka Ichirou from Kyuukyoku Choujin R, and Iona from Gekijouban Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova DC. Yeah, lots of characters from things people don’t really know yet again. Then in generic moe girl land, I mean, iDOLM@STER and Love Live land, we’ve got enough tiny girls to keep you happy forever. On the iDOLM@STER side of things we’ve got Rin Shibuya, Uzuki Shimamura, and Mio Honda. Then for Love Live we’ve got nine new figmas: Ayase Eri, Hoshizora Rin, Koizumi Hanayo, Kousaka Honoka, Minami Kotori, Nishikino Maki, Sonada Umi, Toujou Nozomi, and Yazawa Niko. Anyone else think their names sound like sushi rolls? Because I sure do between Umi, Maki, and Nozomi. Like your moe girls with a bit of mechanical doohickeys attached to them? No problem! You’re still covered! Anthropomorphic Ship Girls –I mean– Kantai Collection has some new additions with Kitakami and Yukikaze. More a fan of Anthropomorphic Plane Girls? We’ve got Yoshika and Mio Sakamoto from Strike Witches. Just a fan of robots in general? Tsugumori and the Type 18 Guardian from Knights of Sidonia have you covered. Last, but not least, we’ve got more goofiness as The Thinker and Venus de Milo have popped up again in figma form. Will these ever see the light of day? Who knows! But we’ve got enough to tide us over until their eventual release with a little bit of everything. [via Wonderful Hobby Life For You and Dengeki Hobby]

  • I’m always kind of surprised when prize figure companies show up to Wonder Festival. I mean, they have prize fairs several times a year that are just for them. But here they are! And, not surprisingly, they only brought their most popular shows & figures to the event. Like Persona: we have Marie & Yukiko from P4 and a lovely Rise from Dancing All Night! More Rise yes, this pleases me. There’s also a ton of Kantai Collection, of course, along with Love Live! and PriPara. Check them out in the gallery below! [via Akibahobby]

  • Chara-Ani seems to be one of those companies who is slipping by the wayside. Every year they have less and less to offer, and their prices go skyhigh while their quality is pretty bad. I do have one or two figures from them that I like, but overall they’re just not a good company. And this year they had ONE new announcement. That’s it. And it’s… surprise… a Sonico and Pochaco! Since everyone is making kind of sadly desperate moneygrabs producing figures of them. This time around it’s one of my least-favorite of their illustrations. They’re freaking BAKERS in UNDERWEAR. What happens when you drop just-melted ganache on your leg, Sonico? What happens when you lean over the stove with that underboob, Pochaco? These girls need to get it together. [via 2chan]

  • X-Plus only had three painted figures at Wonder Festival, but… they were at Wonder Festival, so they get a post! The first and foremost (in both importance and size) is the huge Amazon from Dragon’s Crown. While I still think her proportions are laughable, honestly this looks better than some of the others! Then we have Fairy Tail’s Lucy Heartfilia in a massive 1/4 scale. It’s a swimsuit figure and we have quite a few of her already, so unless you want a giant version of her there’s not much here. Last if Frieza–or Freezer, tehe, in Japanese. [via moeyo]

  • Oh, Beat. One of their very first figures was a swimsuit Tama-nee that I liked. After that? Yeah… it’s been downhill. Or maybe it always has if you’re not jaded by a one true love for Tamaki. Anyway… this year’s Wonder Festival. It’s hard to find the words. On one hand, they had two perfectly acceptable (though dull) figures of Saber Extra and Caster. What. Then… the more risque stuff, which I always find just hilarious. Like the swimsuit Celia, who must be in SO much pain from that thing. I mean, it’s squishing every inch of her. Owwww. There’s also a figure of Misae Suzuhara, who is suddenly so popular. The Orca one and now this? WHY? There’s also a busty swimsuit girl, oh joy. [via moeyo]
