Wonder Festival 2016 Archive

  • While obviously for Wonder Festival is on PVC figures that you can actually buy, there are always 10x more garage kits than commercially produced merchandise. The dealer room is absolutely massive, and if we attempted to hunt down and show you every single kit at the event it’d probably take several days worth of coverage. And, you know, it’s kind of bittersweet because they’re pretty but you can’t buy them (unless you have a proxy + the skill, time, & money to paint one). This year we had a pretty decent lineup, though I have to say I think it was lacking a bit compared to the last few. There was a LOT of Kantai Collection–mostly Iowa and Kashima, oddly enough. Of course we had Fate/Stay Night, IDOLM@STER, Love Live, and tons more (like a surprise Adventure Time figure!). Check them all out in the gallery. [via Dengeki, toshigk, & Ryuko KASINN]

  • I recently bemoaned the lack of Bishoujo Ibuki at Kotobukiya’s SDCC both. Turns out that she was actually at Wonder Festival instead! I’m guessing she just got painted and they only had one prototype, so obviously it makes sense to keep her close to home. This is a long-awaited figure for a lot of people, so let’s hope she lives up to their expectations! In some shots her face looks beautiful, but it’s a little odd from side angles. I think she’s definitely a figure you’ll need to display at a bit of an angle. I also wonder what that seam in the back of her pants is for–cast-off, maybe? There will also be a masked version of this figure exclusive to Kotobukiya’s online store (both in Japan and the US!). [via moeyo]

  • Bell Fine burst onto the scene pretty spectacularly about a year ago with their dynamic Saber Lily figure, and while they’re still a relatively new company they’re definitely one to look out for. At this Wonder Festival they finally had Lily painted (and looking spectacular!) along with a few other sculpts (Asuka Kurashina from Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm, Tsubasa Kazanari, Megumin) and a handful of new announcements (two girls from Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, Rosia and Retoree from Show by Rock, and and Eris from Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufu o!). • Did you notice a distinct lack of Sonico at this Wonder Festival? We really only had one or two, and she used to absolutely dominate the figure scene. I’m not really sure who the next eye candy girl is, but sadly my pink-haired cutie seems to be on the decline. But fear not, Pulchra is here with a super cute sweater Sonico! And also some other stuff, like Dagashi Kashi figures, Yuuki Mikan from To LOVEru, and a super amazing Rider from Fate/Grand Order. For real now, how many F/GO figures does any human need. Seems like literally every company had at least one. [via moeyo]

  • Amakuni, the company that makes those figures you want but can’t afford because they’re all damn exclusives, brought a ton of stuff to Wonder Festival. A good chunk of it was Kantai Collection (Ooyodo, Libeccio, Kashima), but they also had the new wedding Muramasa figure, two Show by Rock figures (Crow sculpted, Cyan announced), Black Rider from Fate/Grand Order, and Cleric from Bikini Warriors. I want that Libeccio so bad… [via moeyo]

  • Do you remember how Vertex started out with those amazing, unique, & huge Evangelion figures? Yeah, they’ve come a long way from that. And completely changed their aesthetic to “wow it’s boobs!” I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love my Vertex figures, but you can’t deny that’s basically what they are going for. As was pretty clear at their Wonder Festival booth: I mean, just look at the Valkyria Chronicles figures. We also had a brand-new Sakuya (never enough Tony Taka), Fiona from Border Break, Purple Heart, and an announcement for Mitsumi Gijou from Tokyo Necro. [via moeyo]

  • I am usually not that excited for PLUM’s event lineups, but after their teasers this year? Yeah, I wanted to see that Lancer pretty badly. I love her design, and thankfully the final figure does not disappoint! The paint is just so lovely and detailed. I actually think I like the sculpt for ques Q’s Lancer a bit better, but I don’t know if they will beat this paintjob. Then we have Caster, who is… less exciting. I just don’t think her design looks like the rest of the F/SN girls and she kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. Very generic magical girl-y. [via zakuzaku911]

  • Wing, aka Sonico and other big boobs INC, had a rather small lineup at Wonder Festival. And not a single Sonico, which feels so strange! However, they did have a shockingly slim wedding Pochaco (let’s be honest, it’s her head on Sonico’s body, this ain’t what Pochocolate looks like). They also, finally, had their gorgeous Saya painted and she’s to die for. Their yukata Yukino Yukinoshita was also on display, along with perhaps the most exciting figure (for me)–their Akari from Aria! [via Dengeki]

But they’re also apparently making figures now. Like every other one out there. Camilia, from Fire Emblem If, was actually at Good Smile Company & Co’s booth so it’s likely that one of them is giving IS a helping hand because Camilia really does look fantastic so far. • I may have been disappointed with both Orchid Seed and Native, but there’s one ecchi company that always delivers: AlphaMax! They had tons of new sculpts, including several Tony Taka girls who will steal my heart, along with some new paintjobs (header Miku, their lone safe for work girl) and a handful of new announcements. They’ve got a little something for every taste, from tasteful and classy to downright strange. Check ’em out int he gallery below! [via Dengeki]
