WonFest 2015 Archive

  • You know we’re pretty much done with Wonder Festival when we get down to companies like Pulchra! Not that they’re terrible, but they are quite small and their quality is only so-so… so far, at least. Their sculpts at Wonder Festival looked better than their previous offerings, so maybe they’re on the way up! They had quite a bit out on display: Koneko Toujou from Highschool DxD, Enju Aihara from Black Bullet, Kirishima Lei, Esdeath from Akame ga Kill!, and Mio Naruse & Yuki Nonaka from Shinmai Maou no Keiyakusha. They’ve also announced a Yuuki Mikan from To LOVEru! [via moeyo]

  • PLUM is one of the smaller figure manufacturers, so they didn’t have a ton out. In fact, there was only one new sculpt… but man, was it a doozy. They’re doing Mikatan Narugino from Punchline and she just looks so great. The pose, the base, all the detail! It looks like such a happy figure. They also had a handful of announcements. They’ll be doing yet another God Eater girl (Sakuya Tachibana this time), Airi Kashii from Ro-Kyu-Bu!, and Blanc from Geki Jigen Tag Blanc + Neptune VS Zombie Gundan (zombie… gundams? What?) [via moeyo]

  • Well, this is a little disappointing. Wing has on display what they showed in their teasers… and nothing more. So Purple Heart, Ignis, and Nisei Muramasa. Two of which we’ve already seen sculpted! No progress on all those announcements from last WonFest, it seems. I wonder if they bit off more than they could chew? We do, though, have an announcement from them: they will be doing Yukino Yukinoshita and Yui Yuigahama from Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru (whyyyy is the name so long) in yukatas! • Chara-Ani/Toy’s Works used to make a lot of passable but not fantastic figures, and popped them out pretty rapidly. It seems that they are finally changing their approach, as we can see in the relatively small offerings they had out for Wonder Festival: they are at least going to try to go for quality over quantity. There was, of course, Oyari Ashito’s angel girl on display, along with baker Sonico and Mikoto Kiba from Triage X. The most surprising thing is that they’ll be doing Free! figures of Sousuke Yamazaki and Rin Matsuoka! It also seems like that cute Rias is going to be Chara-Ani, not Embrace Japan. [via moeyo]

  • Sega seems to turn up at every single event with prize figures. There’s just an endless stream of them. But hey, I love prize figures, so I’m not going to complain! This year was, well, much like other years. A lot of the usual: Evangelion, KanColle (including the Lucky Star x Kantai Collection crossover figures), lots and lots of Mikus. We also have new Persona figures, including a Yukiko to match the P3 uniform version Chie! [via Akibahobby]

  • When covering WonFest, some things wind up falling through the cracks due to the sheer amount of announcements that there are and sadly, Kotobukiya’s announcement of a Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: Arise Alternative Architecture in their ArtFX J line was one of those. Personally, I’m a huge Ghost in the Shell fan, but admittedly even I haven’t bothered watching Arise yet due to all of the negative reviews I’ve seen. That said, I’m definitely glad to see more companies deciding to take on figures of the major, even though her Stand Alone Complex design is so much better. Hopefully we’ll at least get an action pose from Kotobukiya though! [via kotobukiyas’ Twitter]

  • When Aniplex announced that they’d be making a figure of Ciel in full fancy dress, I think we were all a little excited. I mean, Black Butler fans have been jilted by the figure market for a long time, and finally we’re getting so many Ciels & Sebastians! But I think this might be the crown jewel of them all. The sculpt is amazing, the pose is amazing, it’s just… it’s going to be an exclusive, so I’m trying to keep my excitement reigned in. But really. Just gorgeous. [via Whitenoize’s Twitter]

  • So up until now, I knew Broccoli as that company that made the nightmare-inducing Sonico. I mean, guys, it was BAD. They were a company that made bad figures. But suddenly all their sculpts are detailed and the paintwork is great? I’m so confused. What happened. Because, really, these new figures look hella nice. We have Asuna and Silica from Sword Art Online, a drop dead gorgeous rendition of Tenshi, Nene Ayachi, Miyuki Shiba from Boring Magic School, and more! They also showed off a Caster from Fate/Extra, but since she was marked do not photograph we sadly cannot show her to you. But check out everything else in the gallery! [via Akibahobby]

  • Amakuni, aka maker of things we want but can’t have because they’re all exclusives, had little to show at Wonder Festival. In fact one of their figures, the bride Muramasa, was behind frosted glass. So we could see.. the vague outline? What is the point of that? I thought she was being made by Wing (which would mean non-exclusive) but they switched it on us! Also on display was Haruna from KanColle, and their idol Lucifer (who I am totally in love with), along with some rather creepy figures of Prisma Illya and Kuro. Why are they naked?! Whyyy. • Is it just me, or is Vertex’s “theme” as a company giant boobs? Sure feels like it, especially after this Wonder Festival! Where there were a lot of boobs, let me tell you. They actually only had one new sculpt out, Matabei Gotou from Sengoku Bushouki Muramasa, but there were a LOT of announcements. Including another Sengoku girl, Takatora Toudou! What else will they be working on? A swimsuit Selvaria Bles (because we don’t have enough of these), a Christmas Sonico (based on different art than the Alter one), Rune Knight from 7th Dragon, Kataiko from Sangokushi Taisen, and Senran Kagura‘s Ikaruga as a race queen.
