WonFest 2016 Archive

  • Oh, Orchid Seed. They used to be one of my top 3 favorite companies but we’ve had something of a falling out lately. They’re just so damn slow! It’s been over 4 years and I am still waiting for my library girl. Spoiler alert: she’s not at this event either. I mean, to be fair, they did have a lot of new: including two of my most anticipated figures from them, Kureha and Tamaki, painted. Also lots of new Seven Sins stuff, which makes me wonder how much production & time it’s eating up. I mean, they have over 20 figures still in the art stage! But thankfully, it seems like we have no new art announcements this time. Maybe next year I’ll get library girl… [via Dengeki]

  • Usually we see the reveal for Racing Miku’s figures around this time of year, so I was a little surprised when she didn’t end up in Good Smile’s booth. But it turns out they were just keeping her tucked away! Or rather, a figure of her–it seems like we’ll still get the standard pose one, and this is kind of a bonus. And what a bonus it is! So different from the other Racing Miku figures–an elaborate base and cute pose, plus that sculpt is to die for. [UPDATE] FREEing’s amazing new Thai Racing Miku was there as well! [via Good Smile Racing]

  • FREEing is such a strange mix of super large bunny girls, teeny tiny swimsuit girls, random yukata girls, and then the occasional super-detailed high quality figure. Like, I never know what to expect from them… but at the same time I know exactly what to expect. This year we’ve got big ladies from God Eater, Danmachi, Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata, Expelled from Paradise, and Yatterman. Then there are tiny Vocaloids and IDOLM@STER girls. Plus, you know, a regular-sized Asuna and several others, and then (randomly) a super high quality Senritsu no Tatsumaki from One Punch Man. What is this company?? And where are the hundreds of bunny girls announcements? [via Dengeki]

  • Of course the highlight of Phat! Company’s booth was their amazing IDOLM@STER girls, but they rocked pretty much everything. I have to admit, they’re fast becoming one of my favorite companies. And they didn’t disappoint this year! I mean, just look at the header girl, Jibril from No Game No Life. MY HEART. Djeeta from Granblue is just as cute, plus we have Julius Visconti from God Eater and a super cool new Raimu Kawasaki from Bakuon. Oh, and the amazing poseable Evangelion gals (plus sassy Unit 01). Then the announcements! Saber Extra, Pepperoni and Anchovy from Girls und Panzer (who approved those names, really now) and Ai Ninomiya from Amanchu!. [via Dengeki]

  • Ah, Aniplex, I love you and hate you. I love your figures but I hate that they’re exclusives. I mean, as the progenitor of the maiko girls, how can I not adore them? And they did have that new yukata-style Saber on display–I want to dislike her (cause god knows I need another Saber) but ugh, she’s so pretty. They had more Fate/Stay Night on display: Shielder and an announcement for Jeanne d’Arc (possibly the WonFest queen this year). They also had some other cuties, like the amazing IDOLM@STER trio and Akeno MIsaki from High School Fleet. Check ’em out in the gallery below! [via Dengeki]

  • Ah, ques Q. The company I always want to love but never end up buying stuff from. Given some of their cute Wonder Festival sculpts, though, I feel like my ques Q collection is about to climb. I mean, the Lancer alone is to die for! But we also have a very cute Show by Rock figure, God-Hand from 7th Dragon, so much Kantai Collection (tons of sculpts and, like, 8 announcements), a super cute Alice Cartelet, and many more. Including a Raita figure I have strong feelings about. Then we have announcements! Mai Kawakami from Musaigen no Phantom World, Assassin from Fate/Grand Order, and the three main girls from Girls und Panzer (why is this suddenly so figure-popular again?). [via Dengeki]

  • Well we’ve already showed you the KanColle figmas, the new Link and Zelda, the Persona 5 figmas, the¬†Bloodborne figma, and Li, but that’s not all that was on hand at WonFest! In things we already knew about land there’s the Kaiba figma, Dark Magician Girl’s figma, Leafa, the new Samus from Metroid Prime 3, Gravity Crow and Gravity Kitten from Gravity Daze 2, the protagonist from Persona 3, Fuchiko (who now has five color variations), R. Tanaka Ichirou from Kyuukyoku Choujin R, Conan from Mirai Shounen Conan, Kogure Kenzou from Seibu Keisatsu, and Majima Goro from Ryuu ga Gotoku. So what was actually new to the show then? Well we’ve got two figures from My Hero Academia with both Midoriya and Bakugou, who both look awesome, female Corrin from Fire Emblem: Fates, Guyver III, Ulala from Space Channel 5, Klaus von Reinherz from Kekkai Sensen, Mumei from Kabaneri, and Ononoki Yotsugi from the Monogatari series. Then we’ve got a few oddities with Asato Miyo and Rikka Shiina from Little Armory and then Nipako that are being made by Tomytec, and three new art additions by FREEing: The Mona Lisa, Scream, and The Actor. Personally I’m most excited for the My Hero Academia figmas and the super odd art additions, but what are you looking forward to? Let us know in the comments! • Flare is a company with a ton of potential: they make beautiful figures with some unique concepts. But their prices are so fucking high, like old Yamato, that I always kind of shy away from them. Their WonFest lineup is going to make that pretty hard, though. They had some beautiful sculpts out: the dynamic Samurai from 7th Dragon, the super-cute Noah, Halloween Caster, the gorgeous Houkago no Pleiades duo, and the Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm catgirls. Then there are so many announcements! Some of them, like the naked Gwendolyn, are a little weird. But then we have Saber Bride, 2 Tony Taka girls, Jeanne d’Arc, Akari from Aria, Oswald from Odin Sphere, and Taiga Kougami from King of Prism. [via figsoku]

  • The star of MegaHouse’s booth was clearly their perfect Sailor Moon, and while that alone was enough to sway my heart they also had some other stuff. Like Dragonball Z, One Piece, Gundam, Naruto, Digimon… all the stuff we expect at this point. But we also got some cool announcements, like Zatch Bell figures (!!). Along with a beautiful Liko from Active Raid, who looks like a fancy Vocaloid and I am totally on board with that. Also with the lil Naruto tailed beasts, how cute is that? [via AmiAmi]

  • Native used to be the undisputed king of NSFW figures. But recently they started putting out more and more figures with lower quality (or at least attention to detail), and AlphaMax started overtaking the ecchi market. Recently, though, I think Native has tried to return to its roots: sure, they have a LOT of stuff at this Wonder Festival, but a lot of them have a classic Native feel. We’ve got art from all the faves (and some new faces as well): Tony Taka, Raita, Saito Masatsugu, ReDrop, Tsuji Santa, Nagaoka Kenzou, abec, Ishikei, Pyon-Kti, Parsley, Yuuki Hagure. And while it’s a nice lineup, I’m kind of disappointed that 1) no boys and 2) my goddamn techno nurse is STILL MISSING. Where is she, Native?! [via Native’s Twitter]
