WonFest 2017 Archive

  • As collectors, our focus for Wonder Festival is obviously on the things that you can, you know, actually buy. But at the event, purchasable PVC figures are outnumbered pretty substantially by garage kits. We of course brought you our usual before-event roundup, but it’s time to take a look at all the goodies that were out and about that day! The quality ranges from amazing to god-awful, so we tried to bring you the cream of the crop. Though I will admit, quite a few in this gallery are just here because of how odd they are. Shirtless Gilgamesh? Girl getting (happily) eaten by a shark? Cat on a motorcycle? Check ’em out and tons more below the jump! [via 1up, tom matsumodo, & hanpenx]

  • The big announcement from Chara-Ani/Toy’s Works at Wonder Festival was definitely that they’ll be doing the 3 main boys from Yuri on Ice. But of course there was more to be seen! Like (surprise) Rem. That makes them like the 20th company to take her on. Sigh. They also had a very risque Succubus, Yukina Himeragi from Strike the Blood, and the oddly named Avian Romance (say what now) from American Frigate Bird (Japan stop. It’s time to stop). Plus we have announcements for Chino Kafuu and Sharo Kirima from Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?? [via Chara-Ani’s Twitter]

  • Kalmia Project is one of those strange, brand-new NSFW companies that Native is suddenly distributing. They all seem to have Native-like quality, no? And Native themselves are distributed by GSC. It’s a confusing world of naked figures. Kalmia might be new to the scene, but they showed some awesome stuff off at Wonder Festival. They only had 3 sculpts out, but the White Elf in particular is quite impressive. There’s also a bunny girl illustrated by Ogin Bara and a demon girl illustrated by Houtengeki. And of course we have to have a few art announcements! Check ’em out in the gallery below. [via Kalmia’s Twitter]

  • It seems like Pulchra made a bunch of new figures, looked at them, and said “hey guys, these are heavy, how about we just take some pictures and stick them on cards for Wonder Festival?” It’s not the best idea anyone ever had, but here we are. All of their brand-new announcements are… pictures of pictures. There’s a kneeling Isuzu Sento, Karen Kujou from Kiniro Mosaic, Akebi Sasaki & Taeko Kondou from Girls und Panzer, and a Rider from Fate/Grand Order with a truly impressive hat. Thankfully, they had some actual figures at the event too! Like a bridal Kurumi Tokisaki (will she be wearing white? I can’t picture that), the racing queen Girls und Panzer figures, and Kaori Miyazono (who looks okay as long as you don’t put your eyes anywhere near her face). [via mfc & AmiAmi]

  • Aquamarine is not a company that usually brings the wow factor to events. I expect a small booth from them with a handful of sculpts, and way too many announcements. But they really brought it this year! Tons of new stuff and some truly awesome looking figures, like the header girl Jack-O’ Valentine from Guilty Gear. How cool is she?! Sadly, none of the 5 million Sabers they announced were there, and Justine & Caroline from P5 are still unpainted. But there’s PriPara, a gorgeous Rin Shibuya from Cinderella Girls, plenty of Girls und Panzer, Galko-chan, Angel Beats, Hiro Hayima from King of Prism (a boy from Aquamarine?!), and the impressively muscular Jam Kuradoberi. Plus we’ve got announcements! From Shining World, Won Pairon and Altina Mel Sylphis, and also a very casual-looking Asuna. [via moeyo]

  • Union Creative used to be known as “that company that basically just makes guys standing around.” Somehow they have turned into “that company that sometimes makes guys but mainly it’s half-naked girls.” When? How? Why? This was on full effect at Wonder Festival, where they had nary a male in sight. However, lots of ladies. Strange. The star was definitely their Halloween Miku, who is so freaking cute and the sculpt looks sharp as hell. They also had the half-naked Reika from Gantz:0, the almost-naked Ryomou Shimei, and the more-clothing-than-the-others Mumei. Oh, and a sculpt for Ayame Tomogawa from Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, a show that I thought would get a ton of figure attention and now has barely any. [via moeyo]

  • Vertex used to make big, ambitious figures. They bust onto the scene with the entry plug Evangelion figures, after all! But recently their “make every figure have huge boobs” hasn’t seemed to be working so well, and production has definitely slowed down. They only had 4 figures on display at Wonder Festival, and two of them (the Shining Blade Sakuya bikini figures) were just color variations! They also had the weird Christmas Sonico out, along with Mitsumi Gijou from Tokyo Necro. Sadly, still no Noel or the new Selvaria. They did have an announcement for a bikini elf girl with art that looks like Tony Taka except it’s actually Tsurusaki Takahiro. Thrilling. [via moeyo]

  • Guys, I think Flare finally got me. I keep insisting, “No, too expensive, don’t need it!” But this year, I want everything so bad. Mostly because it’s almost entirely Tony Taka, which I can always get behind. Swimsuit versions of Won Pairon and Altina Mel Sylphis, and they’re doing a cute teacher (?!) Sakuya. The Rei from their teasers is here (but no sign of Noah yet, weird) and they WILL INDEED be doing a matching Asuka!! Yuss. We also have the beautiful dress Gwendolyn from last WonFest sculpted, and announcements for YoRHa No. 2 Type B from Nier: Automata and an original character from Happoubi Jin. [UPDATE] Finally found Noah, and added Saber Bride as well! [via Hobby Search]

  • Like usual, ques Q’s booth at Wonder Festival was like 80% KanColle and Touhou Project. Yet they put out figures from both those series so slowly! It’s a conspiracy to drive us insane, I tell you. At least this year they had some cool KanColle girls who we don’t usually see, like Northern Princess (squee!), Kashima, Ro 5oo, and Naka. And they didn’t announce any more, thank the lord. On the Touhou front they announced two new Sakuya Izayoi and a new Remilia Scarlet. Two of my faves! Sadly, Love Bomber Sonico is still unpainted, as is Lancer and the Raita bunny girls. They did have quite a few announcements, of course: they’ll be doing Samurai from 7th Dragon in a maid outfit (wut), and Saber from Fate/Grand Order. Pink-haired Saber with a demon tail, I can get behind this. [via Dengeki]

  • Ah, AlphaMax. Hitting us Tony Taka fans in the wallet every time. This year they had… a lot of Tony Taka on display! Along with figures based on the art of Yuran, Misaki Kurehito, Inue Shinsuke, Nekoume, and more. They also had some safe for work things on display! Like the Saber/Saber EXTRA combo in the header, Makise from Steins;Gate, and the surprise reveal of Zashunina Yahakui from Seikai Suru Kado. [UPDATE] Added a few more figures to the gallery! [via figsoku]
