Yotsuba! Archive

  • We’ve seen quite a few figures of Danboard from Yotsuba&! in the past years, but this is a totally new, out of left field addition: cat Danboard. Or Nyanboard, as they’re called. It’s literally what it sounds like: Danboard with cat ears and a tail, plus matching kitty patterns. AMAZING. This basically everything I’ve ever wanted even though I didn’t know I wanted it. These minifigures are manufactured by Sentinel, and there are a bunch of different ordering options. If you live in Japan, you can buy an individual blind box for ¥630 when they come out in November. There are also three sets: Sweet (white, pointed, bicolor tabby), Bitter (black, brown calico, grey bicolor), and Mild (tabby, orange calico, black bicolor) for ¥2,100 each. And then you can of course get the whole set for ¥7,000 which includes the bonus “plain” Nyanboard. Um yes please, I will take all of the Danboard kitties. • I have such mixed feelings about garage kits. On one hand, it’s awesome to see all the creativity that happens when sculptors aren’t restricted by licensing agreements and the somewhat limited poses you can do with PVC. On the other hand, I can’t have them. So, you know, it’s nice to window shop but holy crap do I want motorcycle Mari so bad. This weekend there was yet another Treasure Festa–only 13, it seems like there are a million more doesn’t it? We always see some amazing garage kits at these events, possibly even more than Wonder Festival since it’s really a gk-only convention, and this year was no exception. The wares definitely reflect current figure trends… to a point. There was almost no KanColle to be seen, but a whole lot of Sailor Moon, Super Sonico, and Vocaloids. We’ve handpicked the best of the bunch, so check them all out in the gallery! [via moeyo & Akibahobby]

  • So far we’ve already shown you quite a bit of what Kotobukiya has at their Toy Fair booth: Hulk vs Hulkbuster, new Bishoujos, the Star Wars line, and their new Super Power figures. But of course a booth as big as theirs has a lot more in it! Like a new Iron Man ArtFX and tons of Halo merchandise. They even brought a bunch of PVC figures, which is not something we’re used to nowadays. I mean, they even had a Wonder Festival prototype out and about: Ken Kaneki! Along with lots of the Cu-Poche line, chopsticks for every shade of samurai, and tons more. Check them all out after the jump!

  • For years, my dream of a PVC version of this amazing Yotsuba&! garage kit has been nothing more than that… a dream. While the manga is popular enough to get Revoltechs and trading figures, the creator is pretty strict with merchandise and something this relaxed and slice-of-life really doesn’t seem like the type to get a fancy, dynamic creation like this. Sure, the sculpt itself is simple, but the work put in to make sure she doesn’t tip over or lean isn’t something to be overlooked. But finally, it’s happening! My dreams are coming true! Chara-Ani has picked up the license for this sculpt and is producing it in PVC, and as a general release. Wait… it gets better. Her price? ¥6,000. She comes out in May and you can bet your ass I am ordering her in a heartbeat… and also probably a second for my dad. [via Chara-Ani]

  • Wonder Festival isn’t all about PVC and garage kits. Oh no, there’s kaiju on site as well! One of our vinyl crushes, Max Toy Co, will be at the event with a handful of goodies. No Kaiju Negoras, but something even better: Yotsuba&! figures! There’s Yotsuba herself and Osaka as well, along with a collection of mini figures of Danboards, Maya, and more. I if anyone wants to pick me up May and the chain comp kitty I’ll love you forever. Then we have the creepy Neko Musume from the manga GeGe NoKitaro. Perfect for your arch nemesis, they’ll never sleep again with this in their room! [via Max Toy Co]

  • December was (obviously) the last month of 2012, and boy was it a doozy. Even with the massive amount of delays that came late in the year it was just totally jam-packed with releases. In fact, this might actually be our biggest month of orders… ever. Well, maybe excluding July of 2010, where we had an entire wall of loot from SDCC. But in terms of imports, yeah, it’s a bit overwhelming! So hit the jump to check out all the goodies.

  • Almost a year ago we looked at some headswapping figure fun, and now it’s time for another round! While I don’t think I’d be brave enough to lop off a figure’s head just to play around with it, there’s always someone else out there to take that risk for us. Today we’ve got plenty of headswapping shenanigans featuring Kamen Rider in a more breezy look, Precure’s resident cute animal in a more imposing state, Soniko doing a bit of cosplay, and Mugi meching it up. Of course there’s also a dose of NSFW headswaps, most of them featuring the idea of “wouldn’t it be hilarious if popular character x was super busty?” Most of these actually feature one figure, Orchid Seed’s Chichinoe. Rei, Azusa and Charlotte all get to take a new body type for a spin, and the Madoka girls get all tied up. Check them out in the gallery! [via 2chan]

  • We wrapped up our New York Comic Con coverage a few days ago, but of course photos weren’t the only thing that came home with me & Stephen from the convention! Loot is one of the main lures for toy fans, and NYCC certainly had exclusives to spare. Seemingly every booth in the Cultyard had several exclusives up for offer, and while we went in planning to only nab a few we ended up with more than we bargained for! So hit the jump to check out our tasty loot haul for NYCC.

  • Yotsuba&! sure has been popular lately! We got some vinyl figures & kits from Kaiyodo, and now Kotobukiya is hopping on board with the clover-headed girl. They’re doing a model kit of her, in the same basic style as their Saber-san kit (review). She stands about 5.5″ high, and just just painfully cute! She comes with a veritable ton of extras: five faces (happy, angry, surprised, bemused, and super-happy), her stuffed bear, a bag to carry him in, a bubble blower, and a camera! She should be vaguely compatible with the Kaiyodo Revoltechs as well, letting you use those summer-themed accessories if you have them. And of course, you can also use her with Kotobukiya’s Danboard kit! She’ll retail for ¥3,000 with a March release, and you can check out the huge gallery below the jump. [via Kotobukiya]

  • Despite being (sadly) limited to only a manga, Yotsuba&! has proved surprisingly and lastingly popular in the figure world. Kaiyodo has probably been the most prolific producers of Yotsuba&! merchandise with their Revoltechs and trading figures, but now they’re moving onto something new! First up we’ve got a 9 inch tall soft vinyl figure of Yotsuba herself, retailing for ¥2,800 with a December release. Then there’s an actual cardboard kit of Danboard. Genius! We’ve gotten action figures and plastic kits of her before, but this venture into papercraft territory is pretty darn smart given what Danboard is actually made out of. The joints are made of plastic, and she comes in at a whopping 14″ tall! The Danboard kit will retail for ¥2,800 like Yotsuba, and will also be released in December.
