Yu-Gi-Oh! Archive

  • Ah, Amakuni. I love their figures but I hate getting them, because they are always exclusives. Unfortunately for me (and my wallet), they have so many new figures my heart yearns for. I mean first off, and most obviously, my Persona 5 gals! Anne, Motoko, Futaba (light of my life), and now… Death Waifu?! I can’t believe they’re moving on to social link romances and leaving Haru in the dust. Poor Haru. And then there’s the gorgeous Tony Taka Racing Miku (be still my heart), and Yu-Gi-Oh DX’s Jaden. They showed off quite a few new things as well, like the Satsuki and Ryuuko from Kill la Kill they are adding to the weird “hot springs bath” line or whatever that is. We’ve also got Erina from Queen’s Blade Unlimited: the second QB figure of the night! I wonder why there’s been such a resurgence? And will we be getting new, cute Ymirs in the future?! [via moeyo]

  • I remember the dark times when Good Smile Company didn’t come to US events. Thankfully those days are over, because their booth is usually the toy highlight of any convention! And they really brought it for NYCC this year with not one but two separate booth displays. They had a lot of brand-new goodies, like the Anniversary Miku (look at that hair!!), figma Genji, and the sculpt for the Breath of the Wild Guardian Nendoroid. It’s always nice to be able to see figures in person, it’s quite a different experience–for example, I wasn’t really sold on Marie Rose’s colors at all when the promotional shots came out, but I was totally won over when I finally got to see her. She might be coming to my pre-order list!

  • The sub-header of this post should be “but not the one you want or expect.” I saw that we were getting another Yu-Gi-Oh figma and my mind immediately went to all sorts of crazy places. Figma Pegasus? Figma Mai Valentine? Figma JOEY WHEELER? Nope. We’re jumping right to Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS and Playmaker, who has a name and design ripped straight from Tron. I love how bizarre this franchise has gotten. I mean, it was already pretty weird in the first few seasons. Then we got Jaden’s show, then Yu-Gi-Oh on bikes, and now… Yu-Gi-Oh in the mainframe? Wild, I tell you. While I have no idea what is going on here I’m not gonna lie, I like it. [via the figma blog]

  • Every year I feel like figmas at Wonder Festival just kind of try to outdo the previous Wonder Festival’s weirdness and randomness and this year is no exception. While we’ve got our standards here like a new Racing Miku and a new Miku variation from V4X and the female main character from Pokemon Sun and Moon that we already showed you, Li from Cardcaptor Sakura, Nero from Fate/EXTELLA, Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kaban from Kemono Friends, a handful of new Kantai Collection additions, and some more Little Armory additions, the rest seem to be a bit all over the place. Between the Dark Souls III figma and Kasumi from Dead or Alive, we’ve got some great video game additions that are less expected. Then we’ve also got the amazing announcement of a Tony Taka’s PANDORA figma, which should be great! Now in unexpected land we’ve got Arashi from Game Center Arashi, figma Kurogo, who just appears to be a random ninja, Goro Inogashira from Kodoku No Gurume, who just looks like a random middle aged Japanese guy in a suit, the wrestler Masahiro Chono, two figmas from Arms Note, and last, but not least, completely out of left field, a character from the 1977 movie Village of Eight Gravestones. Then the art line is being continued with Yuurei-zu and Nike and we’re also getting a figma of higma, the traditional bear carving. Check them all out in the gallery below! • Every time I see an Amakuni figure I love, I die a little inside because they are all exclusives. Their booth this year is truly suffering because I want almost all of it. Guys, my heart. I’m dying. Seven Heavenly Virtues Michael is finally painted, and soooo pretty, as are quite a few of their KanColle girls. We also have a sculpt for Iowa which has some pretty impressively floating boobs. Cause she’s ‘Murican and we love plastic surgery? They also have two of their Persona 5 girls, Futaba and Makoto, sculpted. One is my waifu and one is my least favorite girl, can you guess which is which? We also got a nice, detailed look at their Racing Miku 2017 who… I actually like more than the GSC one. There were also some crazy surprises, like Jaden from Yu-Gi-Oh GX (the hell) and Mai from King of Fighters! Amakuni has really been killing it lately. [via Hobby Japan]

  • We’ve seen all of the new goodies that Good Smile Company had a toy fair already, like Nendoroid Tracer, the Portal 2 figmas, and Nendoroid Link. But of course they had more than 3 figures out! That would be pretty odd, right? A big booth with just 3 things. Very ominous. Anyway, they had lots of their more US-centric licenses out on display, like the Naruto Nendoroids… which are USA only! Weird, right? But cool. There was also a lot of Zelda, Dota 2, Fire Emblem, Metroid, Suicide Squad, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and of course… that amazing Disney announcement. Check ’em all out below the jump!

  • Kotobukiya’s Yu-Gi-Oh line has been a consistent fan favorite, and I know I’ve been head over heels in love with it since the inception. I mean, everyone who grew up with Yu-Gi-Oh wants nothing more than figures of those guys and their weird hair. And… maybe of the human ladies too, though so far that hasn’t happened (Mai Valentine when?). Since they have covered a large chunk of the modern main cast (except for poor forgotten Pegasus), it’s time for a little time-travel with Atem! We last saw him unpainted at Wonder Festival, but now he is all painted and ready to go with a March release date. His price is a reasonable ¥9,000 and if you pre-order through Kotobukiya US you get an amazing bonus: a 1/1 scale version of his golden cartouche! Pre-Order At: KotoUS (with bonus) | HLJ | AmiAmi

  • It’s been a long time coming (or at least it seems like it). And it has been two years since the announcement, so actually it has been a long time! That’s like a decade in the figure world. I’m a huge Yu-Gi-Oh fan, as you all know by now, so of course I’ve been waiting (im)patiently for the whole time. Though, you know, we kind of have enough DMG. But hey, this one is poseable! And, unlike Yugi, she actually has quite a few accessories. The staff, of course, a cool magic attack effect, her magic book, and some really cute faces. The attention to detail looks great, and in some of the close-up shots she actually looks like a scaled figure! Orders open tonight. I wonder who we’re going to get after Kaiba? Maybe some Toon versions of monsters…that would be amazing. [via the figma blog]

  • Well we’ve already showed you the KanColle figmas, the new Link and Zelda, the Persona 5 figmas, the Bloodborne figma, and Li, but that’s not all that was on hand at WonFest! In things we already knew about land there’s the Kaiba figma, Dark Magician Girl’s figma, Leafa, the new Samus from Metroid Prime 3, Gravity Crow and Gravity Kitten from Gravity Daze 2, the protagonist from Persona 3, Fuchiko (who now has five color variations), R. Tanaka Ichirou from Kyuukyoku Choujin R, Conan from Mirai Shounen Conan, Kogure Kenzou from Seibu Keisatsu, and Majima Goro from Ryuu ga Gotoku. So what was actually new to the show then? Well we’ve got two figures from My Hero Academia with both Midoriya and Bakugou, who both look awesome, female Corrin from Fire Emblem: Fates, Guyver III, Ulala from Space Channel 5, Klaus von Reinherz from Kekkai Sensen, Mumei from Kabaneri, and Ononoki Yotsugi from the Monogatari series. Then we’ve got a few oddities with Asato Miyo and Rikka Shiina from Little Armory and then Nipako that are being made by Tomytec, and three new art additions by FREEing: The Mona Lisa, Scream, and The Actor. Personally I’m most excited for the My Hero Academia figmas and the super odd art additions, but what are you looking forward to? Let us know in the comments! • We have seen two of Kotobukiya’s most exciting Wonder Festival announcements (new Pokemon and Cowboy Bebop), but I don’t think anything could prepare me for the exciting boy-figure-flood that was about to happen. Not only did they have Spike on display and their sculpted Atem, but we’re getting a brand new Lelouch from Code Black!! Thank you figure Jesus. We are blessed this day. And that’s not all (obviously)! So much new stuff, like an adorable Madoka, High School Fleet figures, Type-Moon’s Heroine X, a bunny-tastic Airi Totoki, Sebastian Cu-Poche, and a sculpted Velvet Crowe. We also have a few announcements! They’ll be doing another Tony Taka butterfly sister (who looks suspiciously like Miku), Vira from Granblue Fantasy, and RyuuZU from Clockwork Planet.
