Yui Takamura Archive

  • By now, everyone knows that I’m crazy for the Muv-Luv girls. I’m not even really sure why since I’ve neither played the games they’re in or seen the show, but I find something about the design aesthetic very pleasing. And not just the plugsuits: I’ll buy pretty much any figure of the trio from Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse! But of course their suits are the star of the show, so fans (and, you know, not-really-fans-but-kind-of-fans like myself) got pretty frustrated that we went so long without and cool figures of them. Thankfully Kotobukiya answered our prayers and delivered the trio in their suits. We reviewed Cryska a while back and since doing things in order is no fun at all we’ll be taking a step back today to admire the first and arguably most popular of the lineup (and also, curiously, the only one actually standing up): Yui Takamura. So hit the jump and let’s go fight some aliens!

  • Welcome to the week of girls whose name starts with Y! We’ve got Yuki, Yui, Yumi and Yami. Yup, totally not confusing at all! While there are only ten figures this week we’ve got some really great (and very expensive) ones, ranging from painfully cute to totally badass to downright confusing. So check them all out after the jump!

  • So we all know Hobby Japan’s newest exclusive, Yui Takamura, is cute, but is she worth the exclusive status? I mean if she was Kotobukiya or Max Factory I think many people would have picked her up in an instant, but not only does she cost more she is made by Amakuni, HJ’s manufacturing company who, while not terrible, certainly doesn’t rank among the best. Let’s be honest: as cute as she is, she’s not “oh my goodness how beautiful let me spend $150 on you!” There are some weird features to her sculpt, like that one toe sticking out (which, for some reason, really bugs me). As time goes on I grow less and less enamored with her, though I still do love her face! But I have a feeling this will be one of those exclusives you can find for close to retail pre-owned, I think I’ll be sitting on the sidelines until then! [via Akibahobby]

  • Hobby Japan, everyone’s purveyor of awesome but exclusive figures! Since they make so few a year through their manufacturing company Amakuni, it’s no surprise that only two new ladies were on hand, along with their lovely Yui Takamura. The first is that Soniko that we heard about, who looks cute but not like what I expected. Something is off about her bust, it looks too bulky and not at all like the illustration! Then we have the majestic girl in the header, the Dark General from Shingeki no Bahamut. Anyone want to place bets on how much she will cost? Not like it matters, because I must have her no matter what! As pretty as she is I’m disappointed in the lack of 7 Sins figures, but maybe that has something to do with Asmodeus’ massive delay… [via Animate]

  • Why are exclusives always so pretty? We rarely get ugly exclusives, and I always want the nice ones. Especially Hobby Japan’s which really do seem to be the best. Then again, EVERY Hobby Japan figure is an exclusive. We got all of Yui Takamura’s details in the recent magazine scans, and unsurprisingly orders have just started! Yui is 1/7 scale and retails for ¥7,800 with an August release. Given her larger size (9 inches) and two faces, that’s not a bad price at all! Orders will be open until March 11th, so you have a while to make up your mind. Personally, I definitely want her–I love her cute face and yellow is a swimsuit color we rarely see! Pre-Order At: Big In Japan [via Hobby Japan]

  • The first month of the new year means the first magazine scans of the new year! You’d think they would be a bit lackluster because companies are gearing up for their Wonder Festival reveals–but you’d be mistaken! There are many lovely ladies here as usual, including a rather stellar batch from Kotobukiya and a extra scary Cattleya, along with some nasty exclusive surprises. Check them out after the jump! [UPDATE] Updated with a few stragglers.

  • Welcome to the last batch of Hobby Japan scans for 2012! That’s right, the year really is drawing to a close. Which means thinking of a list of our favorite figures, working on golden butt and boobie awards, and oh yeah.. scans! We already saw the announcement of Irma but of course that’s not all (though honestly there’s not as much new as usual this time around). We’ve got lots and lots of swimsuit girls, and a few gems thrown in. We will be sure to update if any more go up, but for right now this is all there is! [UPDATE] Updated with figmas, a Nendoroid, FREEing, Aquamarine, Gift, and more!

  • Welcome to another edition of our pre-order roundup! I assure you the minor lateness this week has nothing to do with us getting a Vita and Persona 4 Golden on Black Friday. No way! (Or Stephen’s laptop dying for that matter) Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about figures! This was a rather tiny week in terms of releases, with Good Smile Company & co dominating the figure scene. Of the 14 releases we have, 8 were from them! Then there’s a whole ton of re-releases, so check them all out after the jump.

  • I am not often impressed with the detail on figmas, since, well, they’re so small and usually don’t have a lot! But Yui here is a wonderful exception. Her suit looks fantastic, and there’s even some nice shading in her hair. I just can’t get over how cool the Muv-Luv plugsuits are. Certainly more interesting than what we usually see! Yui doesn’t come with a whole lot a determined face, a blushing face and a fighting face, along with her katana. The Nendoroid sure had a lot more in terms of accessories! And her price doesn’t seem to fit this–she’s ¥3,800. I sure hope this doesn’t mean they are jacking up the base figma price! She’ll be released in April (the same month as the Nendoroid and scaled figure!) and will go up for order tonight. [via the figma blog]

  • We went so long without figures of the Muv-Luv girls in plugsuits and now they’re all over the place! First Kotobukiya’s gorgeous scaled figure and now the finished version of the Nendoroid we found out about at WonFest. I really love their designs so I’m happy to be seeing more of them. And they really did a good job here! A lot of detail for a Nendo. Yui comes with a lot of stuff, the most obvious being her BETA… er, friend. Who is actually her mortal alien enemy, but they look kind of cute together here! She also has three faces: pretty standard fighting and embarassed faces, and then a super unnerving bloody face. Even worse than Swan Song in my opinion, she looks so hurt. Poor Yui! She has a katana and a gun to defend herself with, along with a bowl of stew. She’ll go up for order on the 27th! I wonder if this means we’ll be seeing the figma soon too? [via Mikatan]
