  • As a company, MegaHouse absolutely bamboozles me. On one hand we have their cute, nostalgic, simple-but-well-made lines like their amazing Digimon and Pokemon figures, which were both out and about at MegaHobby. Then they bust out the occasional magnificent sculpt, like our header girl: Airi from Queen’s Blade! I cannot explain my excitement when I saw her: I always wanted a great Airi figure but assumed that time had come & gone long ago. But no, MegaHouse to the rescue! Then we have the other half of their line: the painfully tacky and often out-of-character girls, especially from beloved shows like Naruto and Dragonball Z. They’ve butchered so many of my faves. Just look at that Hinata. It hurts my soul. And I remember C.C in a lot more clothing, don’t you? The One Piece girls obviously fall into this category: the anatomy has gotten so bad that I kind of think it’s some big elaborate joke. The sculpting for this “side” of them is often simple to a fault and looks like it could have been from 8 years ago. Put Airi, the new Digimon boys, and that awful stripper pole Nami together: do they look like the same company? What is going on with MegaHouse?!?! [via moeyo]

  • While Kotobukiya tends to focus on more US-friendly comic/game/movie toys at comic conventions stateside, they never fully forget their anime & manga fans! This year they had quite a few beautiful sculpts, including the American debut of the gorgeous sculpt for Jabami Yumeko from Kakegurui. Just look at that hair! Also on display were the Fullmetal Alchemist boys, Joker from Persona 5 (who was just released and is in the mail on his way to me~), Victor from Yuri on Ice, and the new beach Lancer (who is definitely not Caster, totally different characters in the logic of Fate/world).

  • I remember the dark times when Good Smile Company didn’t come to US events. Thankfully those days are over, because their booth is usually the toy highlight of any convention! And they really brought it for NYCC this year with not one but two separate booth displays. They had a lot of brand-new goodies, like the Anniversary Miku (look at that hair!!), figma Genji, and the sculpt for the Breath of the Wild Guardian Nendoroid. It’s always nice to be able to see figures in person, it’s quite a different experience–for example, I wasn’t really sold on Marie Rose’s colors at all when the promotional shots came out, but I was totally won over when I finally got to see her. She might be coming to my pre-order list!

  • Orange Rouge, aka Touken Ranbu: The Company, has a lot of… wait for it… Touken Ranbu figures at Wonder Festival this year! So many. And their names are so long. So let’s start with the non-TR boys. Like their stunning Aoba! What a beauty. They also announced Yuri on Ice Nendoroids of coach version Victor and a wintry Yuri. We’ve got Nendo Tatara Fujita from Welcome to Ballroom, Banri Sttsu from A3!, and 3 Fate/Grand Order boys. As for Touken Ranbu, we have scales of Izuminokami Kanesada, Juzumaru Tsunetsugu (who is also getting a Nendo), Higekiri (+ Nendo), Ichigo Hitohuri, and Imanotsurugi. We also have Nendoroids for Uguisumaru,  Nikkari Aoe, Hizamaru, Taikogane Sadamune, and Kasen Kanesada, along with a super cute Petit Nendoroid set with a ton of the boys in it. [via whl4u]

  • For a few years now I have bemoaning the downfall of festival exclusives. It seems like companies never have anything big and fancy. Well, GSC is making me eat my words for this Summer Wonder Festival because they pulled out ALL the stops. First off, finally the return of scaled figures! And what an unexpected one. Max Factory is re-releasing their famous (and rare) Kasumi in 1/20 scale in the PLAMAX line. She’ll retail for ¥3,000. Kaiyodo will also have a new Wonda-chan for ¥9,800. We have quite a few Nendoroids. There’s the updated Reimu from Touhou Project (¥5,000) and a set of Asuna & Kirito O.S Versions (¥5,500 for the set). Sadly, these will not be available online and are only at Wonder Festival, Anime Expo, Japan Expo, CCG Expo, Shanghai ChinaJoy, and 2017 18th Comic Exhibition. Everything else will be available online right after the event, which is July 30th. As for regular Nendoroids, there’s a super cute Yuri Katsuki who will get a matching Vincent. Then we have the Nendoroid More Dress Up Wedding Elegant Version (what a mouthful) and the penguin face case which I really need in my life. Last, but not least, is WATER GUN SABER FIGMA. Amazing. Perfect. Wonderful. ¥5,500. For the first time in a while, I want the vast majority of these! [via whl4u]

  • Kotobukiya had a lot of nice surprises at MegaHobby. The first is the lovely sculpt from Yuri on Ice’s Victor, which wile not as dynamic as MegaHouse’s is a lot more appealing to me personally. Then they had two of their super cute Pokemon gals out & about. I need all of them! They also had Sagiri Izumi from Ero Manga-sensei, along with an announcement for Elf Yamada. We’ve also got Cu-Poche Rem & Ram, Aiz Wallenstein, and more. Check them out after the jump and let us know what you are looking forward to! [via AmiAmi Twitter & Dengeki]

  • Yuri on Ice!!! was one of the runaway shows of 2016 that captured many anime fans’ hearts (mine included) with amazing storytelling and gorgeous animation, so it’s no surprise that we’re seeing loads of merchandise from the show now. First up Orange Rouge will be making Nendoroids of both Yuris and Victor, which look adorable! I love Yuri’s little teeny tiny outfit and Victor’s suave sex appeal in Nendoroid form is quite hilarious and well executed. No sculpt of Yuri #2 aka Yurio yet, but he better come with pirozhki as an accessory! Next up is the long awaited and teased Victor scaled figure by MegaHouse in their G.E.M. line that looks perfect. His face sculpt is spot on, the gentle action pose sums him up perfectly as a character, and all around this looks to be the figure to get if you’re a fan of the show. Last, but not least, Toy’s Works announced that they’ll be making scaled figures of all three characters, but they showed nothing more than that. Lots of figures to tide us over though, thankfully, before an inevitable season two! [via whl4u, AmiAmi’s Twitter, and Yuri On Ice Goods’ Twitter]

  • Kotobukiya always brings out the goods for Wonder Festival, and this year is no exception! We have a great lineup of figures here, starting with of course the painted Protagonist from Persona 5. Yes, my beauty, come home to me. In other game news, we have their new Pokemon girls! Or, well, one of them sculpted, and the outline of the other. The Caster/Lancer from their teasers is here, and looking adorable. We’ve also got a few old announcements finally painted: Vira from Granblue Fantasy (give to me now yes), RyuuZU from Clockwork Planet, and Charlotte from Shironeko Project. There’s a new Girls und Panzer bikini line: Anchovy is painted, and Alice Shimada will be joining her soon. In other new announcements, they will be doing Victor from Yuri on Ice!! Check ’em all out below. [via AmiAmi’s Twitter]

  • I tend to think of MegaHouse as a company that thrives on nostalgia. If it’s a new series, they hardly give it the time of day: it’s all about our childhood shows and long-running anime. So imagine my surprise at their big MegaHobby announcement: Yuri on Ice figures! If you told me they would be the first to hop on what I’m sure will be an insane figure hype-train, I would have laughed, but here we are. Of course they had a ton of nostalgia going on too. Their full Pokemon line was out, looking impressive, and showing off the Ash & Charizard figure we’ve all been waiting for. Plus a huge Digimon one too! Sadly, the new Android 18 is just as tacky and inaccurate as the first, but it’s kind of countered by a non-boobytastic Tsunade. Also a recolor of their gorgeous Elf!We’ve got Sailor Moon, Zatch Bell, One Piece, Naruto, D. Gray-Man, Space Battleship Yamato, Gundam, and so much more. Check them all out in the gallery!
